Re: [GRASS-dev] GRASS 7.0beta3 planning

2014-08-05 Thread Martin Zbinden
Hi,

+1 to beta3. Maybe the announcement of it is a chance to update the
instructions on http://grass.osgeo.org/download/software/linux/ :

Linux Mint: ppa:grassgis/grassgis-testing doesn't exist. But
probably ppa from Ubuntu should work, too. (see remarks below)
Ubuntu: ppa:grass/grass-stable is ok.

Generally Ubuntu GRASS 7 is not working well together with parallel
grass_6.4.3-3 installation. Errors:
1) on installation: E:
/var/cache/apt/archives/grass-doc_6.4.3-4~trusty1_all.deb: Versuch,
/usr/share/man/man1/r3.out.vtk.1grass.gz zu überschreiben, welches
auch in Paket grass70-doc 7.0-3-30661~ubuntu14.04.1 ist.
2) when starting GRASS 70:
Unable to get GRASS version
bash: /usr/lib/grass70/etc/prompt.py: No such file or directory

I have to note that I'm working on Linux Mint with Ubuntugis unstable
repository. Self-compiled from beta2 source runs fine.

Thanks,
Martin

regarding gui, does anyone has any opinion on this?
http://trac.osgeo.org/grass/changeset/61269

Summary: r.profile outputs distances in meters independent on current
projection which causes problems for the gui profile tool which becomes
almost unusable in case of using feet. I fixed it in GUI, however it would
be more preferable to fix it in r.profile. I don't know how to fix it in
the module (considering the complication with foot_US vs foot) so I fixed
it at least in the GUI. Should I backport it? There seemed to be some
objections against this fix/workaround but as usual nobody provided
anything better...

+1 to beta3

Thanks,

Anna

There is currently 10 blockers for 7.0 and 7.1, 3-5 are duplicates of
Python issue.

In addition to that. The g.list, g.mlist, g.remove and g.mremove chnages
are in fact blockers since they are changing API.

The query on Trac seems appropriate. We can add it to reports (as what?)
or you can put a query result to a page. Some pages are using it.

No, relbr7 is using the older workaround. And about BAT and Python in

 I merged the v.in/out.ogr backports except r60596 because v.in.ogr in relbr7
doesn't have the PG specific code, which I wasn't sure can be simply copied
 over from trunk... Martin?

it's related to PG database/ogr driver, seems to be OK.

 Hi,

as Martin stated in a recent ticket comment, beta3 should be released asap.

I would like to get first the pygrass changes backported (not
 difficult including the manual improvements).

Maybe we skip the pygrass sphinx docs for RC3?
... the OSGeoLive feature freeze for the FOSS4G Portland conf is upcoming.

But other pygrass fixes should be backported.

Anyway we mostly focus on the online documentation being up to date, right?

This would be nice.

Today and tomorrow I would like to improve a little bit more the
pygrass manual, could you wait few days before backport these changes?

A few more things are potentially missing, too.

 Opinions?

I backported what I think is appropriate and these (not critical) tickets
are still waiting for confirmation:

http://trac.osgeo.org/grass/ticket/2243

this needs more testing across platforms, both with wxPython 2.8 and 3, so
we might want to wait
http://trac.osgeo.org/grass/ticket/2026 (v.surf.rst window too wide)
