[GRASS-user] about r.threhold

2020-06-11 Thread Rengifo Ortega
Dear Grass community
First of all thanks for this great piece of  software such  as GRASS
GIS!Recently I have been using  the  r.threshold module to extract a  river
networks at different  DTM resolutions and different areal extent. I noticed
that   r.threshold values varies widely as a function DEM  resolution and
extent of watershed (areal extent). So , I have some questions, and hope
someone in the community can shed some light on them.
Looking at the description of the module  it says : "This approach provides a
best guess about what makes sense when looking only at the DEM"
Question 1: means   that the results of the r.threshold module will depend on
the resolution and  the extent of the watershed?
Looking  at the source code, I  realised that r.threshold used r.stats to
generate a flowacc  text.file ordered in ascendent order and put into a matrix
called  mappatella, with 3 columns defined as:
mappatella is a matrix, in the first column the value of upslope area is
stored,
in the second the number of cells, in the third the distance from origin is
calculated

further in the script the distance is defined as :
calculating distance from origin of each point; origin of the plot is in low
left point

Question 2 : which is the origin?  is the center  of  a cell  of the corner of
a cell?Question 3: which plot? and why  the low left point of the plot?
Although I understand the general aspect  of the module I still struggle to
understand its details. I would appreciate some explanation to crarify  it
further, since I  am using it as part of workflow within  GRASS GIS to produce
inputs to a Distance Distribution Dynamics( DDD) model for urban enviroments.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance !

[GRASS-user] Average height over catchment in grass gis

2019-05-22 Thread Rengifo Ortega
Dear users  I am writting you here with the hope of getting some ideas about
how to caculate what Kirsten Hennrich et al., refers to as average catchment
height (Ha) I found this infomation in the proceedings of an international
conference called regionalisation of hydrology.
In page 184, he says that it is possible to calculate  Ha  using r.statistics
in GRASS GIS (IAHS publication no. 254).
I have been using sofar SAGA GIS to do the job.   But recently  I am
experiencing some memory issues with SAGA GIS. In the old versions of  SAGA GIS
this calculation was named catchment height.  The new versions of SAGA GIS
require that the user calculate  the mean over catchment  (MoC) first.
Thereafter is MoC substrated from the original DTM. The product of this is the
average catchment height or simply catchment height.
Have someone in this group used GRASS GIS to calculate Catchment height in
GRASS GIS. Any  hint will be appreciated.

[GRASS-user] r.sim.water error map-- how to interpret it.

2017-08-11 Thread Rengifo Ortega
Dear Grass community,I amusing r.sim.water (SIMWE) to model depth and discharge
of an specific rain event in a small urban watershed in the city of Oslo,
Norway. So fareverything went ok. But, I am wondering about the output called
Err. Inthe grass gis manuals
https://grass.osgeo.org/grass64/manuals/r.sim.water.html describe […]the err
raster map (the resulting water depth is anaverage, and err is its RMSE) […].
Q1: areerror map and depth map supposed to have the same  scale? in this
casefrom 0.0 – 1.87 meters Q2: Ifyes, how I am supposed to interpret RMSE . If
I  query thecell I obtain the same value in both datasets.?  So far I
understand RSME  (root-mean-square error (RMSE)) is a frequentlyused measure of
the differences between values (sample and population values)predicted by a
model or an estimator and the values actually observed. I wouldappreciate any
help.

[GRASS-user] r.hazard.flood erroneous results.

2017-02-26 Thread Rengifo Ortega

Dear community,I gave a try to r.hazard.flood and  got  som  erroneous results,
that indicate flood hazard (value 1) on  the hillsides. Is that possible?

I am running  r.flood.hazard in GRASS GIS 7.2.0 on a windows 10 machine. The

Not error messages are produced-- (below  the command output), but the  results
do not represent the reality. The MTI map on the other hand, looks correct to
me. Negative values on the hillside and positive values in the floodplain (see

Re: [GRASS-user] opening .gri anf .bin files in grass gis.

2016-05-26 Thread Rengifo Ortega
Dear community,i moved the .bin and .gri file to our ftp

ftp://ftp01.nve.no/gis/NN2000/
user: gispassord:mErcat0r ( 0 is a zero not a capital O)

There I have the two files and some png files, that shows the .gri file that I
was able to open in Global Mapper a while ago. About the question from Markus
Metz. Sofar, I know I know both files content the same information but in 2
different formats. Here some explanations about the  internal structure of the
file--- free translation from norwegian to english--:

Liten forklaring av formatet:Første linje inneholder følgendeinformasjon:First
line contents the following  information
   57.00   72.00    1.00  33.00    0.025000    0.05
57.00  Minste bredde (min latitude)
72.00  Største bredde(max latitude)
1.00 Minste lengde(min longitude)
33.00  Største lengde(max longitude)
0.025000 Bredde inkrement(latitude increment)
0.05 Lengde inkrement(longitude increment)
Alle andre linjer inneholderdifferanser mellom NN2000 og NN1954.Other lines
content difference beween old (NN54) and new model (NN2000)
Første verdi, -3.048, harposisjon lengde 1 og bredde 72, neste verdi lengde
1+0.05 og bredde 72, så1+0.05+0.05 og 72 osv.First values -3.048 has position 1
longitude, 72 latitude. next values  has 1+0.05 longitude and latitude 72 and
so on ... 1+0.05+0.05 og 72

So, when the longitude has reached 33, then it starts with the next latitude
which is
72-0.025. First values heres is then longitude 1 and latitude 72-0.025, so
longitude 1+0.05  and latitude72-0.025, then longitude 1+0.05+0.05  and
latide 72-0.025 and so on.
Sagt på en annen måte: etter32/0.05=640 verdier begynner en ny bredde som er
0.025 mindre enn den forrige.
In short: after 32/0.05=640 values, a new latitude is started, which 0.025 less
than the one before.
 End of translation-
As you see I was able to open the .gri file in a test version of global mapper,
but I woudl rather do it in my software combination  of preference
(grass+qgis+gdal).
I hope the infomation above is more useful to you Markus Metz , than it was to
me .

As for the question from Markus Neteler, the values used where standard values
already present in in the example comman line, since I do not know how many
columns and rows they are in the .bin file.

Thanks for the helpbest regards.Rengifo Ortega

Is it possible that these files are not raster maps but reference
grids for the Norwegian height model HREF NN2000 to be used e.g. by
proj4?

Just a guess,

[GRASS-user] opening .gri anf .bin files in grass gis.

2016-05-24 Thread Rengifo Ortega
Dear Grass  Community.,first of all a greeting to the community. I have a
question and hope some of you can help me with it.
I have got a .gri and a .bin file that represent  a geodetic height modell in
Norway, which can be downloaded for free from here.
ftp://ftp.geodesi.no/NNTrans%20-%20Transformasjon%20mellom%20NN2000%20og%20NN1954/
So, I have tried unsucessfull to import  the .bin file into GRASS GIS and the
.gri file is not even read into GRASS GIS. Have any of you tried to open a .gri
file in GRASS GIS.
i tried the r.in.bin with the following parameters with not success:try 1:
r.in.bin NNTrans2016A.bin out=nntranstest r=5400 c=10800 n=72 s=57 w=
1 e=33 bytes=2
try 2:r.in.bin NNTrans2016A.bin out=nntranstest r=5400 c=10800 n=72 s=57 w=
1 e=33 bytes=4try 3:r.in.bin NNTrans2016A.bin out=nntranstest r=5400 c=10800
n=72 s=57 w=
1 e=33 bytes=8

In all three cases I got the  following error;WARNING: File Size 1577088 ...
Total Bytes 11664
ERROR: Bytes do not match file size

Sofar I know .gri seems to be a petrosys file. Does any of you tried to do this
before.
Best regards and thanks for any help.

Hi fellow GRASS users,

I have outputs of i.segment (object segmentation) for 30m Landsat imagery

I use these outputs for land cover change analysis? Do I have to vectorize
these and recode the classes, or is there a more efficient way?

Thanks!

Hi all,
today, I have a problem with my release  "grass 6.4.4 with my sis "  in
windows vista.
When I open my mapset, appears this error:
"g.proj.exe ha smesso di funzionare".
Someone has an idea for a solution.
thanks in advance.

Following Anna's suggestion I had to find out that r.mode has to option
to handle NULL values, i.e. exclude it from calculation? I need to
aggregate rasters to polygons, with rasters covering only a small part
of the polygon. As I realized now r.mode returns NULL in such case.
Setting NULL with r.null null= it will return for all of these.

Is there a solution to that problem?

dear grass community, thanks a lot for the hints. Yes, indeed it was under

it was not installed.

Here is the error hope someone kan help me with it.

It basically says that tha  file is not available.

As for the  question from  Blumentrath Stefan:
Yes, Stefan I am working with Norwegian data The same resolution as you. I am
using  DTM10 from Statens Kartverk. Why  r.terraflow? Well, for this purpose it
seems  to be the best algorithm.

Currently, I am proposing a combined approach (geomorphons+TCI (r.terraflow
based), for  locating areas, where our  potential mass movement modelling
(based on flow-r) fails to model the outreach of those mass movements.
Specifically, I am looking at areas on alluvial fans located just below the
footslopes, where phenomena like debris flows might change their rheological
behavior, due to changes in the slope gradient of the alluvial. r.terraflow is
use to model water accumulation and TCI in these areas. The idea is  to
establish some sort of threshold, using the TCI, where potential flows paths
can be delinated as an extension of the alredy existing model. e.g town of Kvam

Basically, these areas are looked upon as flood areas, and for this  purpose
seems r.terraflow to be the best, according to some authors
https://books.google.no/books?id=svwfypEvPwEC=PA94=PA94=terraflow+panam%C3%A1=bl=NN5mfSaXm4=UX4mZ-6fB5aYdKGKGLC0HQRfmdc=no=X=0ahUKEwi3vfOS3fTKAhWrJZoKHfY-CqoQ6AEIIzAA#v=onepage=terraflow%20panam%C3%A1=false

However, I would  appreciate  to get a copy of  the data you refered to, given
you used MFD and not SFD to calculate it, since I am interested on diffuse
waterflow and not chanalised one.
Thanks in advance

I think its comes with the standard installation of GRASS. I find it,
and most likely you too, under_

"raster --> hydrologic modeling --> Flow accumulation".

2016-01-14 Thread Rengifo Ortega
Dear Markusthanks a lot. It partly did the trick.
When using those settings in r.out.gdal, as you suggested,  it did preserve the
colors as you said.  But , it also creates a long palette of colors that makes
the rendering in ArcGIS  very slow specially for large tiffs . On the other
hand, the RGB as produced by r.out.tiff (GRASS 6.4)  get rendered faster. For
the time being it is a vailable solution, specially for small  datasets.
For large datasets I am going to stick to r.out.tiff OR a  give try to a pure
gdal approach using the hsv_merge.py script create by frank warmedam as
suggested in this siteA workflow for creating beautiful relief shaded dems

Re: [GRASS-user] Automatic extraction of valley

2015-11-12 Thread Rengifo Ortega

Dear Jean,
If I understand you correctly what you are looking for is to make a swath
profile along curved geomorphic features e.g botton valleys. I think that if
you want to this in grass gis, it would be enough to create a mask using the
the polygon you show in your picture and then extract that area using
r.mapcalc. You also can use the geomorphons approach, described by Vaclav, but
you have to be careful with the parameters, since they will yield different
results depending on your parameters.I would rather use gemorphons instead of
r.param.scale, since it is scale independent. If you want something more
specific I suggest you to take a look at this paper it might give some ideas
about the topic.

[GRASS-user] GRASS 7.0.0

2014-08-21 Thread Rengifo Ortega
Dear Grass users,
recently I installed GRASS 7.0.0 on ubuntu 14.04 (32 bits). When I tried to
open  by typing  grass70 command I get the  following error message: python:
can't open file '/usr/lib/grass70/gui/wxpython/gis_set.py': [Errno 2] No such
file or directory
Received EXIT message from GUI.
GRASS is not started. Bye
I also have  version 6.4.3 pefectly working from before, but I would like to
migrate to Grass 70 as soon as posible. Any suggestions how to solve this issue?
thanks in advance..

Re: [GRASS-user] how to make radiometric correction of Aster level 1A image in GRASS GIS

2014-08-03 Thread Rengifo Ortega

Dear
Nikos first of all,
 thanks
a lot for your quick response !. I guess I  will have to install
grass70.

Rengifo
Ortega:
 I have a ASTL1A image (HDF4), which I intend to use
to generate a DEM using the stereo pipeline, called AMES (NASA
software).

Note, also, the manual states clearly:

ASP can only pro cess Level 1B satellite imagery

Chapter 4, page 37).

 Sofar
I understand  Aster Level 1B imagery is just  a derivative
from Aster Level 1A  imagery. See link below.

http://spatial-analyst.net/ILWIS/htm/ilwismen/import_aster_technical_information.htm

The
level 1A raw data are reconstructed, unprocessed instrument digital
counts. This product contains image data with geometric correction
coefficients and radiometric calibration coefficients appended but
not applied [...]

 The
level 1B product contains radiometrically calibrated and
geometrically coregistered data for all channels. This product is
created by applying the radiometric and geometric coefficients to the
level 1A data [...]

 So,
I thought, If I can make the radiometric correction in GRASS GIS
and eventually the geometrical correction, I would be able to use
this image in AMES as if it was a ASTL1B imagery. Please, correct me
if I am being to optimistic and understimate the work load of doing
so ...:-(

After
all, the information needed to do this can be found in the metadata
file (.met) attached to the ASTL1A image.
 Greetings
Rengifo Ortega
