Re: [GRASS-user] qgis + grass-plugin = gdal-problem (update)

2009-03-10 Thread achim
Great! Now it works.
Thank you Otto for effort.

...but...to handle raster files is pretty slow in QGIS!
My Windows-Qgis works faster and not-grass-mapset-maps are handled fine
as well.
Any thoughts?

Re: [GRASS-user] qgis + grass-plugin = gdal-problem (update)

Hi Otto,

have you find out, what the problem could be? I am still willing to use
grass with qgis, but -as written- qgis terminates when loading a raster
file from a grass project. I tried an older qgis version, but the error
is the same:

qgis: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/gdalplugins/gdal_GRASS.so: undefined
symbol: G_no_gisinit

I'm afraid I made something wrong with my openSUSE 11.1 64bit...

Sorry for being so impatient,
achim

Hi,

thanks for answering and sorry for taking so long..

Im running suse 11.1 and I was installing both qgis and grass from the
following repositories:
http://teodori.org/repos/grass/openSuSE11.1/
and
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Application:/Geo/openSUSE_11.1/

As said deinstalling the old and reinstalling of the packages via yast
does not help. Now I'm using only grass, but I would really like to use
the comfortable qgis in future too.

Thanks,

I'm no guru when it comes to compiling/building, but what I have
noticed using the development versions of grass and qgis is that if I
update and compile grass and forget to re-compile qgis then the grass
plugin disappears from the qgis menu. This is new behaviour that has
appeared in the last couple months. As I remember the older versions
of qgis would throw the error you report when qgis was built for a
different version of grass compared to that currently being accessed.

If you are installing binaries from others read the package notes to
find the revision of grass required and make sure all other versions
and their libraries are removed from your system, including the 32 bit
libraries as you seem to need the 64 bit versions.

Hi Achim!

It's not clear to me which geo-repository you mean. Could you please be
more specific?

First:

* Which operating system do you use?
* Which exact commands did you use to install grass 6.4 and which to
install grass 6.3?
* Why do you need both, version 6.3 and 6.4?

Now partially answering:

* You are not "forced" to compile grass by yourself. There are binaries
ready-to-(install)use.
* Of course you can clean old libraries. If you installed grass from
ubuntu's repository for example, it should be easy to clean everything
by just removing it (preferably with "sudo apt-get purge grass").

BTW, Jachym Cepicky's repository [1] is AFAIK always more up-to-date
than ubuntu's repositories.

Kind regards, Nikos

Hi,

I used the goe-repository files for installing grass (6.4) and grass63.
Do I have to compile myself? Cant I clean old libraries by myself and
reinstall grass from the repository?

Thanks,
achim

If you compiled grass64 then have a look in the mail-archive for
"G__no_gisinit". I had the problem myself and it has been discussed some
times. It's probably a bad linking issue. I would recommend to clean
your system from old libraries. Then, proper compilation and
installation should give you the solution.
