[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1693574] Re: Docker plugin uses the wrong command for Ubuntu

2017-05-31 Thread Eric Desrochers
** Bug watch added: github.com/sosreport/sos/issues #930
   https://github.com/sosreport/sos/issues/930

** Also affects: sosreport via
   https://github.com/sosreport/sos/issues/930
   Importance: Unknown
   Status: Unknown

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  The docker plugin in sosreport doesn't collect informations for Ubuntu.

  In docker.py for the Ubuntu Plugin, the docker command is set to
  'docker.io'[1] which seems to be a old workaround that has been
  removed[2], thus the docker plugin is no longer calling an existing
  docker binary which as a result doesn't collect docker informations in
  Ubuntu.

  [1]- Plugin : docker.py

  # Name collision with another package requires docker binary rename
  docker_cmd = 'docker.io'

  [2]- docker.io package : debian/changelog

  docker.io (1.3.1~dfsg1-2) unstable; urgency=medium
  * Remove deprecated /usr/bin/docker.io symlink
  - added as a temporary shim in 1.0.0~dfsg1-1 (13 Jun 2014)
  - unused by package-installed files in 1.2.0~dfsg1-1 (13 Sep 2014)
  -- Tianon Gravi  Fri, 07 Nov 2014 13:11:34 -0700

  [Test Case]

  # Install sosreport from the Ubuntu archive
  $ sudo apt-get update
  $ sudo apt-get install sosreport

  # Run sosreport with docker plugin only or all loaded plugins (for the
  sake of testing docker plugin the "-o" is more appropriate

  Docker plugin only :
  $ sosreport -o docker

  All loaded plugins:
  $ sosreport -a

  # Extract the sosreport*.tar.xz file generated by the above command
  found in /tmp

  # Look in "/path_to_sosreport/sos_commands/docker/" and note that all
  files are empty with "0" size.

  [Regression Potential]

- No regression, this is a trivial fix that will allow sosreport to start
collecting the docker informations again.
- If for some reasons, a regression is found, it would be 100% limited to
docker plugin of sosreport and not affecting the functionality of sosreport nor
other plugin.

  [Original Description]

  This Launchpad bug is based on an existing GitHub bug[1].

  The docker plugin is currently broken in sosreport. In docker.py[2] for
  Ubuntu the docker command is set to 'docker.io'.

  docker_cmd = 'docker.io'

  The docker.io package used to have a docker.io binary but this was
  reverted in this debian/changelog from Ubuntu Xenial/16.04 (LTS):

   docker.io (1.3.1~dfsg1-2) unstable; urgency=medium
  * Remove deprecated /usr/bin/docker.io symlink
    - added as a temporary shim in 1.0.0~dfsg1-1 (13 Jun 2014)

     -- Tianon Gravi   Fri, 07 Nov 2014 13:11:34 -0700

  The Docker Community and Enterprise Editions (docker-ce and docker-ee
  packages) also use the plain docker binary and this change is necessary
  to make the sosreport docker module work again.

  There are currently two different pull requests that fix this issue:

  https://github.com/sosreport/sos/pull/1009
  https://github.com/sosreport/sos/pull/1012

  We should SRU this fix once one of them is accepted.

Bug description:
  To fix this now without waiting for the Stable Release Update
  =
  Install xserver-xorg-legacy

  Impact
  ==
  Many users are unable to use their computers after installing the NVIDIA
proprietary drivers to Ubuntu GNOME. Specifically, the log in screen does not
load.

  The problem is that many of nvidia-* driver packages do not depend on
  xserver-xorg-legacy which is needed for gdm/gnome-shell to work

  Test Case
  =
  1. Check that gnome-shell depends on xserver-xorg-legacy.

  2. Optionally, if you have an affected computer, set gdm as the
  default login manager (sudo apt install gdm3; sudo dpkg-reconfigure
  gdm3; sudo reboot). Does the login screen show up? And can you log in
  to gnome (sudo apt install gnome-shell)?

  Regression Potential

  Low. Installing a missing dependency should cause no issues; if it does,
something is very broken already.

  Other Info
  ==
  The most minimal fix here for 16.04 LTS and 16.10 is to just have gnome-shell
depend on xserver-xorg-legacy. Updating all the nvidia-* packages in Ubuntu and
the PPAs would be a lot more trouble; although that would still be a good idea
so that this gnome-shell dependency could be dropped in future Ubuntu releases.

  xserver-xorg-legacy is a very small package.

  gdm3 depends on gnome-shell.

  ===
  Using latest Ubuntu Gnome x64 daily build with all updates installed.
  Lenovo Z70-80 laptop with Nvidia 840M, BIOS updated to latest version, secure
boot and other potentially problematic BIOS settings disabled.

  Can only see a black screen instead of a log-in screen after boot completes
when proprietary Nvidia drivers are installed.
  Regular Ubuntu works absolutely fine on the same machine with the same driver
version. Attempting to use older drivers on Ubuntu Gnome made no difference.

  Bug is affecting more than just me. We were talking about workarounds
  in ubuntuforums. User fthx claims that switching to lightdm fixes the
  issue

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1686036] Re: mountpoint remains in use after restore snapshot

2017-05-31 Thread Stéphane Graber
xenial, yakkety and zesty will get the fix when we backport LXD 2.14.

Is LXD 2.0.x also affected? If so, I'm not sure we have a fix for it in
2.0.10, so we'd need a fix in stable-2.0 upstream so that 2.0.11 can
have it.

Bug description:
  To fix this now without waiting for the Stable Release Update
  =
  Install xserver-xorg-legacy

  Impact
  ==

  Other Info
  ==

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1559576] Re: Ubuntu GNOME boots to black screen when using proprietary Nvidia drivers

2017-05-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package nvidia-graphics-drivers-375 -
375.66-0ubuntu0.16.10.1

---
nvidia-graphics-drivers-375 (375.66-0ubuntu0.16.10.1) yakkety; urgency=medium

  * SECURITY UPDATE:
- CVE-2017-0350, 2017-0351, 2017-0353 (LP: #1689336).
  * New upstream release:
- Added support for the following GPUs:
  o GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
  o Quadro P3000
  o Quadro M520
  o TITAN Xp
- Fixed a bug that could cause EGL applications to crash when
  calling eglInitialize() multiple times on X11-backed displays.
- Fixed a regression that could cause rendering corruption on a
  monitor connected via DisplayPort upon a modeset event (for
  example, changing resolutions or power cycling the monitor).
- Fixed a bug that could cause OpenGL applications to crash when
  VT switching between multiple X servers.
- Fixed a bug that caused the system to become unresponsive after
  resuming from power management suspend/hibernate.  Additional
  symptoms of this bug included display flickering and "Xid 56"
  errors in the kernel log.
- Fixed a bug that caused backlight brightness to not be
  controllable on some notebooks with DisplayPort internal
  panels.
- Fixed a bug that left HDMI and DisplayPort audio muted after a
  framebuffer console mode was restored. For some displays, this
  caused the display to remain blank.
- Fixed a bug that caused audio over DisplayPort to stop working
  when the monitor was unplugged and plugged back in or awoken
  from DPMS power-saving mode.
- Restored support for the following GPU:
  GRID K520
- Fixed a regression that caused corruption in certain
  applications, such as window border shadows in Unity, after
  resuming from suspend.
- Fixed a bug that could cause some applications to crash when
  running with PRIME Sync.
- Fixed a bug that prevented PRIME Sync from working on notebooks
  with GeForce GTX 4xx and 5xx series GPUs.
- Fixed a bug that caused OpenGL apps to have excessive CPU usage
  when running with PRIME Sync but without native displays
  enabled.
- Fixed a bug that could cause PRIME Sync to deadlock in the
  kernel, particularly common on Linux 4.10.
- Fixed a bug that caused PRIME Sync to run slowly on systems
  with Pascal GPUs.

  [ Adam Conrad ]
  * Drop nvidia-prime and bumblebee Recommends on armhf (LP: #1566446).

Bug description:
  To fix this now without waiting for the Stable Release Update
  =
  Install xserver-xorg-legacy

  Impact
  ==

  Other Info
  ==
  The most minimal fix here for 16.04 LTS and 16.10 is to just have

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1685186] Re: [SRU] Mir needs to be updated to 0.26 in 16.04LTS

2017-05-31 Thread Alan Griffiths
Added Zesty and Yakkety as they need to have at least the version in
Xenial.

For Zesty this is a bugfix update, on Yakkety it has the same effect as
on Xenial (of making some "early experience" downstreams a little less
useful).

Title:
  [SRU] Mir needs to be updated to 0.26 in 16.04LTS

Status in mir package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress
Status in mir source package in Xenial:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  Snap development using Mir has been using the "stable phone overlay" PPA
which is both inconvenient and a legacy of the cancelled Unity8 project.

  It would greatly simplify things if Mir were updated in the Xenial
  archive.

  [Test Case]

  Build a Mir client snap (e.g. lp:~albaguirre/+snap/mir-client-demos)
  against "Primary Ubuntu Archive" and deploy as described in
  https://developer.ubuntu.com/en/snappy/guides/mir-snaps/

  Expected: the client apps start and are visible on screen
  Actual: the client apps don't start and are not visible on screen

  [Regression Potential]
  Mir has two categories of dependent project:

    1 Unity8 and unity-system-compositor "server" packages
    2 toolkits and other "clients" of Mir

  "Server" packages from the archive will stop working in the LTS as
  they will continue using the earlier libmirserver.so.38 (from Mir
  0.21) which doesn't work with the libmirclient.so.9 from Mir 0.26.
  This is unimportant as these packages were provided as an "early
  experience", not for serious use.

  "Client" packages are dependent only on libmirclient.so.9 which is ABI
  stable. The principle type of regression would be FTBFS where APIs
  have been deprecated in 0.26. The linked 0.26.3 release has these
  deprecations disabled for 16.04.

  The packages are available in silo:
  https://bileto.ubuntu.com/#/ticket/2736

  notes:

  A recursive search or rdependencies identifies the following packages
  in category 1:

  camera-app-autopilot
  gallery-app-autopilot
  indicator-network-autopilot
  indicators-client
  qtdeclarative5-qtmir-plugin
  qtmir-android
  qtmir-desktop
  qtmir-tests
  ubuntu-desktop-mir
  ubuntu-experience-tests
  ubuntu-pocket-desktop
  ubuntu-push-autopilot
  ubuntu-touch
  ubuntu-touch-session
  unity8
  unity8-autopilot
  unity8-desktop-session-mir
  unity-scope-click-autopilot
  unity-system-compositor
  unity-system-compositor-autopilot

  Anyone wanting these packages should switch to the "unity8-desktop-
  session" preview package in 17.04 where they are far more functional.

  [Alternatives]
  If we want to keep everything working in Xenial, we *could* bump the
libmirclient SONAME to libmirclient.so.10. This would result in libmirclient9
being NBS, but continuing to work against the Mir servers available in 16.04[*]
(until and unless they are rebuilt).

  However, this does not enable the desired result for IoT deployments
  of toolkits (GTK, Qt etc) and other clients working against servers
  (specifically miral-kiosk) built against the updated libraries.

  To work for IoT these would need to rebuilt from source - at which
  point they (and their dependencies) would stop working against the
  servers in category 1.

  [*] with the exception of the servers provided in mir-examples, these
  would only work with clients linking against libmirclient.so.10.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1693574] Re: Docker plugin uses the wrong command for Ubuntu

2017-05-31 Thread Eric Desrochers
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  The docker plugin in sosreport doesn't collect informations for Ubuntu.

  In docker.py for the Ubuntu Plugin, the docker command is set to
  'docker.io'[1] which seems to be a old workaround that has been
  removed[2], thus the docker plugin is no longer calling an existing
  docker binary which as a result doesn't collect docker informations in
  Ubuntu.

  [1]- Plugin : docker.py

  # Name collision with another package requires docker binary rename
  docker_cmd = 'docker.io'

  [2]- docker.io package : debian/changelog

  docker.io (1.3.1~dfsg1-2) unstable; urgency=medium
  * Remove deprecated /usr/bin/docker.io symlink

  $ sudo apt-get update
  $ sudo apt-get install sosreport

  # Run sosreport with docker plugin only or all loaded plugins (for the
  sake of testing docker plugin the "-o" is more appropriate

  Docker plugin only :
  $ sosreport -o docker

  All loaded plugins:
  $ sosreport -a

  # Extract the sosreport*.tar.xz file generated by the above command
  found in /tmp

  # Look in "/path_to_sosreport/sos_commands/docker/" and note that all
  files are empty with "0" size.

  [Regression Potential]

  No regression, this is a trivial fix that will allow sosreport to start
collecting the docker informations again.
  If for some reasons, a regression is found, it would be 100% limited to
docker plugin of sosreport and not affecting the functionality of sosreport nor
other plugin.

-
https://github.com/davecore82/sos/commit/7d063cf0a5949a9819b80f68e1862d95b8c3fa35

  [Original Description]

  This Launchpad bug is based on an existing GitHub bug[1].

  The docker plugin is currently broken in sosreport. In docker.py[2] for
  Ubuntu the docker command is set to 'docker.io'.

  docker_cmd = 'docker.io'

  The docker.io package used to have a docker.io binary but this was
  reverted in this debian/changelog from Ubuntu Xenial/16.04 (LTS):

   docker.io (1.3.1~dfsg1-2) unstable; urgency=medium
  * Remove deprecated /usr/bin/docker.io symlink
    - added as a temporary shim in 1.0.0~dfsg1-1 (13 Jun 2014)
    - unused by package-installed files in 1.2.0~dfsg1-1 (13 Sep 2014)
     -- Tianon Gravi   Fri, 07 Nov 2014 13:11:34 -0700

  The Docker Community and Enterprise Editions (docker-ce and docker-ee
  packages) also use the plain docker binary and this change is necessary
  to make the sosreport docker module work again.

  There are currently two different pull requests that fix this issue:

  https://github.com/sosreport/sos/pull/1009
  https://github.com/sosreport/sos/pull/1012

  We should SRU this fix once one of them is accepted.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1684731] Re: zfs-share.service: Failed at step EXEC spawning /usr/bin/rm: No such file or directory

Bug description:
  == SRU Xenial, Yakkety, Zesty ==

  [Justification]
  The path to rm is incorrect and hence it won't remove the /etc/dfs/sharetab

  [Fix]
  Set correct path, use /bin/rm and not /usr/bin/rm

  [Test Case]
  Without the fix, /etc/dfs/sharetab is not removed. With the fix, it is
removed. To test, touch /etc/dfs/sharetab and it should be removed on startup
of the zfs share service.

  [Regression Potenial]
  Minimal, this affects the removal of a file that should be fixed. The only
regression risk is if somebody is depending on this file, which they should not
be doing so.

  wrong `rm` path on /lib/systemd/system/zfs-share.service

  ExecStartPre=-/usr/bin/rm -f /etc/dfs/sharetab

  there is no file such /usr/bin/rm

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1614789] Re: zfs.target should not require zfs-share.service

Title:
  zfs.target should not require zfs-share.service

Status in zfs-linux package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress
Status in zfs-linux source package in Xenial:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  Currently package zfsutils-linux contains systemd target file
/lib/systemd/system/zfs.target that specifies following dependencies:
  Requires=zfs-mount.service
  Requires=zfs-share.service
  Wants=zed.service

  zfs-share.service is not essential in setups where file sharing is not
  used, or when it is configured without the use of the zfs utility. The
  user may therefore choose to mask this service. However, doing so has
  an unexpected and confusing effect, preventing zfs from starting on
  boot at all. This is because zfs.target is the only zfs-related unit
  that is wanted by multi-user.target, and if one of its required
  services is masked, zfs.target is skipped, together with zfs-
  mount.service. A solution is to replace "Requires=zfs-share.service"
  with "Wants=zfs-share.service".

  Steps to reproduce:
  systemctl mask zfs-share.service
  reboot

  Expected results:
  Module zfs is loaded
  zfs-mount.service is active and ZFS filesystems are mounted
  ZFS filesystems are not shared

  Observed results:
  Module zfs is not loaded
  ZFS filesystems are not mounted
  zpool status produces an error:
  "The ZFS modules are not loaded.
  Try running '/sbin/modprobe zfs' as root to load them."

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1694621] [NEW] Xenial update to 4.4.70 stable release

2017-05-31 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
   The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
   in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
   demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
   by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
   a minimally backported form of that patch. The 4.4.70 upstream stable
   patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
   kernel as well.

   git://git.kernel.org/

TEST CASE: TBD

   The following patches from the 4.4.70 stable release shall be
applied:

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Xenial)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
