Bug description:
  [Impact]
After this linux-firmware bug[1] update the firmware files, it removes
intel/ibt-11-16.{ddc,sfi} and add intel/ibt-12-16.{ddc,sfi}, but in btusb
driver, it hardcoded the hw_variant as 11. So we got this kind of error after
the linux-firmware package updated and lost the bt functions.

  [5.516003] Bluetooth: hci0: Minimum firmware build 1 week 10 2014
[5.516181] bluetooth hci0: Direct firmware load for intel/ibt-11-16.sfi
failed with error -2
[5.516183] Bluetooth: hci0: Failed to load Intel firmware file (-2)

  [Fix]
This patch uses a hw_variant variable to replace the hardcoded 11.

  [Test Case]
Verified on the machine has this issue, and confirm this patch works.

  [Regression Potential]
The hw_variant variable has shown up since kernel 3.10 in this commit
dffd30e Bluetooth: Add support for Intel Bluetooth device [8087:07dc]
So, we don't have to worry about old chips don't contains this info, since it
exists
and be used for a very long time.

Bug description:
  As reported in the past
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1664663/comments/9

A recent KVP daemon patch introduced a KVP_SCRIPT_PATH definition:
  #define KVP_SCRIPT_PATH “/usr/libexec/hypervkvpd/”

LIS KVP implementation has 3 scripts:
  hv_get_dns_info
  hv_get_dhcp_info
  hv_set_ifconfig

These scripts are put by default under /usr/sbin, however with the
above change, now these must be moved under /usr/libexec/hypervkvpd.

Or of course, default to /usr/sbin from the kvp daemon source file if
you want to keep the current structure.

We'd prefer to keep the old arrangement, since users are used to that.

Bug description:
In the time sync NTP automation we depend on an initial RTC time sync,
but skipping that check works fine for the rest of the test.

The question is if the RTC change is to be expected, as we might have
to modify the automation to use the system clock sync instead of RTC
sync before the rest of the NTP test.

As RTC support is not enabled in the azure kernel, all system/proc
  devices for RTC are missing.

Currently it's not possible to use the kdump functionality in xenial
when running the linux-azure kernel. The problem is actually caused by
  several factors:

  1. kexec fails to parse /proc/kcore and thus fails to load the crash

  kernels.

  2. When the crash kernel boots, a bug in KASLR causes it to crash in a
very early stage. For the user, it seems the system just rebooted
  after the crash.

  3. Currently in azure, crashkernel=128G is not enough to boot and run
the dump procedure with 4.11+ kernels. That value needs to be
increased in order to kdump to succeed.

  4. After the vmcore is dumped, the current version of crash in xenial
is not able to parse it. All the necessary fixes are already upstream
  and can be backported.

  [Test Case]

  1. Install the linux-azure kernel in an azure instance (although it's
possible to run linux-azure in bare metal or kvm, the KASLR issue only
  is triggered in azure).

  2. Follow the instructions in https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide
/kernel-crash-dump.html to setup kdump and manually trigger a crash
  using /proc/sysrq-trigger.

The vmcore must be generated and it should be possible to inspect it
  using crash.

  3. Perform these same tests for the linux-generic kernel, on each
  supported architecture.

  [Regression Potential]

Since both kexec-tools and crash are being changed to support 4.10+
kernels, it's very important that they continue to handle 4.4 kernels
  properly.

The same steps above can be used to test linux-generic for
  regressions.

  [Other Info]

  Original description:

  --8<--
Because the linux-azure kernel is based on 4.11, kexec on 16.04 gives the
following error:
kdump-tools[1436]: ELF core (kcore) parse failed

Perhaps the artful kexec-tools should be backported?

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1713747] Re: missing DOMAINSEARCH in initramfs output files if the DHCP server doesn't provide one

2017-09-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package isc-dhcp - 4.3.5-3ubuntu2

---
isc-dhcp (4.3.5-3ubuntu2) artful; urgency=medium

  * debian/initramfs-tools/lib/etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/config: fix the
logic for handling search domains to also write it to the output file when
only the domain name is provided by the DHCP server. Copied code from

missing DOMAINSEARCH in initramfs output files if the DHCP server

  Fix Released
Status in isc-dhcp source package in Xenial:
  In Progress
Status in isc-dhcp source package in Zesty:

Bug description:
For networked systems, for instance booting with an iSCSI root,
dhclient writes an output file in the form of /run/net-.conf
that contains data for other programs to consume. This allows, for
instance, open-iscsi to get the right information and properly connect
to the server to mount the root filesystem.

It is common for DHCP servers to only provide a domain name value, and
no search domains. In this case, isc-dhcp doesn't currently write
DOMAINSEARCH, but people may wish to use short names to resolve things
  (such as in iSCSI server).

  In the not-initramfs dhclient-script, when domain_search isn't
provided but domain_name is, domain_name is written to the search
string. If both are provided, domain_search is written. The initramfs
enter hook should do the same.

Bug description:
When using fastpath install, each host is given an identical iSCSI
initiator name. This does not happen with Debian install mode. The
result is HW SANs that use iSCSI get confused. This is an actual
  customer/partner issue at present.

It would appear to be fallout of the image based approach to installation.
The /etc/iscsi/initiatorname.iscsi file contains something like:
   ## DO NOT EDIT OR REMOVE THIS FILE!
   ## If you remove this file, the iSCSI daemon will not start.
   ## If you change the InitiatorName, existing access control lists
   ## may reject this initiator. The InitiatorName must be unique
   ## for each iSCSI initiator. Do NOT duplicate iSCSI InitiatorNames.
   InitiatorName=iqn.1993-08.org.debian:01:dcafddf1c8b

That is what gets used as the initiator, and is seemingly generated at
package-install time. It needs to be re-created
  uniquely per installed host.

The question is if the RTC change is to be expected, as we might have
to modify the automation to use the system clock sync instead of RTC
sync before the rest of the NTP test.

As RTC support is not enabled in the azure kernel, all system/proc
  devices for RTC are missing.

A recent KVP daemon patch introduced a KVP_SCRIPT_PATH definition:
  #define KVP_SCRIPT_PATH “/usr/libexec/hypervkvpd/”

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1709920] Re: criu is not built for arm64

Is that patchset something that can actually be applied on the much much
older CRIU we have in those releases? It doesn't really feel that way to
me.

Also, please note that CRIU is in universe so that'd be a best
effort/community work.

Bug description:
  [Descriptoin]

When deleting a router the logfile is filled up. See full log -
  http://paste.ubuntu.com/25429257/

I can see the error 'Error while deleting router
  c0dab368-5ac8-4996-88c9-f5d345a774a6' occured 3343386 times from
  _safe_router_removed() [1]:

$ grep -r 'Error while deleting router c0dab368-5ac8-4996-88c9-f5d345a774a6'
|wc -l
  3343386

This _safe_router_removed() is invoked by L488 [2], if
_safe_router_removed() goes wrong it will return False, then
self._resync_router(update) [3] will make the code
_safe_router_removed be run again and again. So we saw so many errors
  'Error while deleting router X'.

https://github.com/openstack/neutron/blob/mitaka-eol/neutron/agent/l3/agent.py#L361
  [2]
https://github.com/openstack/neutron/blob/mitaka-eol/neutron/agent/l3/agent.py#L488
  [3]
https://github.com/openstack/neutron/blob/mitaka-eol/neutron/agent/l3/agent.py#L457

  [Test Case]

That's because race condition between neutron server and L3 agent,
after neutron server deletes HA interfaces the L3 agent may sync a HA
router without HA interface info (just need to trigger L708[1] after
deleting HA interfaces and before deleting HA router). If we delete HA
router at this time, this problem will happen. So test case we design
  is as below:

1, First update fixed package, and restart neutron-server by 'sudo
  service neutron-server restart'

  2, Create ha_router

  neutron router-create harouter --ha=True

3, Delete ports associated with ha_router before deleting ha_router

  neutron router-port-list harouter |grep 'HA port' |awk '{print $2}' |xargs -l
neutron port-delete
  neutron router-port-list harouter

4, Update ha_router to trigger l3-agent to update ha_router info
  without ha_port into self.router_info

  neutron router-update harouter --description=test

  5, Delete ha_router this time

  neutron router-delete harouter

  [1] https://github.com/openstack/neutron/blob/mitaka-
  eol/neutron/db/l3_hamode_db.py#L708

  [Regression Potential]

The fixed patch [1] for neutron-server will no longer return ha_router
which is missing ha_ports, so L488 will no longer have chance to call
_safe_router_removed() for a ha_router, so the problem has been
fundamentally fixed by this patch and no regression potential.

Besides, this fixed patch has been in mitaka-eol branch now, and
neutron-server mitaka package is based on neutron-8.4.0, so we need to
backport it to xenial and mitaka.

Bug description:
The current juju packaging specifies all for architecture, but juju
itself only officially supports 64-bit architectures. We should update
juju, to build on only supported architectures for all ppa and archive
versions. We should also remove existing builds from xenial that are
  for unsupported architectures.

  [SRU Information]

  [Impact]
This change removes 32-bit builds of juju and replaces it with a debconf
message instead. See
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-release/2016-September/003882.html

  [Verification]
First confirm a supported arch install works without issue. No prompting
should occur.

Then, try the same on a 32-bit machine. All existing juju binaries and
files should be removed, and you should be prompted with the debconf
  message about an unsupported client.

  [Regression Potential]
For 32-bit users, this is removing a binary package. However, beta15 package
of juju2 isn't supported. For the supported arches, the only regression
potential is seeing a needless debconf message.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Currently it's not possible to use the kdump functionality in xenial
when running the linux-azure kernel. The problem is actually caused by
  several factors:

  1. kexec fails to parse /proc/kcore and thus fails to load the crash
kernel. That's similar to bug #1713940 and it's related to 4.10+
  kernels.

/kernel-crash-dump.html to setup kdump and manually trigger a crash
  using /proc/sysrq-trigger.

The vmcore must be generated and it should be possible to inspect it
  using crash.

  3. Perform these same tests for the linux-generic kernel, on each
  supported architecture.

  [Regression Potential]

Since both kexec-tools and crash are being changed to support 4.10+
kernels, it's very important that they continue to handle 4.4 kernels
  properly.

The same steps above can be used to test linux-generic for
  regressions.

  [Other Info]

  Original description:

  --8<--
Because the linux-azure kernel is based on 4.11, kexec on 16.04 gives the
following error:
kdump-tools[1436]: ELF core (kcore) parse failed

Perhaps the artful kexec-tools should be backported?

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1718195] [NEW] Xenial update to 4.4.88 stable release

2017-09-19 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The 4.4.88 upstream stable
patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
   kernel as well.

   git://git.kernel.org/

TEST CASE: TBD

The following patches from the 4.4.88 stable release shall be applied:
* usb: quirks: add delay init quirk for Corsair Strafe RGB keyboard
* USB: serial: option: add support for D-Link DWM-157 C1
* usb: Add device quirk for Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920-C
* usb:xhci:Fix regression when ATI chipsets detected
* USB: core: Avoid race of async_completed() w/ usbdev_release()
* staging/rts5208: fix incorrect shift to extract upper nybble

* Bluetooth: Add support of 13d3:3494 RTL8723BE device
* dlm: avoid double-free on error path in dlm_device_{register,unregister}
* mwifiex: correct channel stat buffer overflows
* drm/nouveau/pci/msi: disable MSI on big-endian platforms by default
* workqueue: Fix flag collision
* cs5536: add support for IDE controller variant
* scsi: sg: protect against races between mmap() and SG_SET_RESERVED_SIZE

Bug description:
  == Comment: #0 - Carsten Jacobi  - 2017-03-07 03:35:31 ==
I'm evaluating Ubuntu-Xenial on z for development purposes, the test system
is installed in an LPAR with one FCP-LUN which is accessable by 4 pathes (all
pathes are configured).
The system hangs regularly when I make packages with "pdebuild" using the
pbuilder packaging suit.
The local Linux development team helped me out with a pre-analysis that I can
post here (thanks a lot for that):

With the default settings and under a certain workload,
blk_mq seems to get into a presumed "deadlock".
Possibly this happens on CPU hot(un)plug.

After the I/O stalled, a dump was pulled manually.
The following information is from the crash dump pre-analysis.

  $ zgetdump -i dump.0
  General dump info:
Dump format: elf
Version: 1
UTS node name..: mclint

  Memory map:
 - 0001b831afff (7043 MB)
0001b831b000 - 0001 (1149 MB)

Things look similarly with HWE kernel ubuntu16.04-4.8.0-34.36~16.04.1.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1550301] Re: ZFS: Set elevator=noop on disks in the root pool

2017-09-19 Thread Colin Ian King
Since this affects root on ZFS and the original patch no longer applies
(and ZFS on root) is not currently supported, I am reluctantly going to
close is issue. If a clean fix for ZFS on root for newer Zesty+
initramfs scripts is available I am happy to re-apply them for newer
releases. However, I am not going to forward port the original changes
since the delta is too large and I am not able to test these (as we
don't have ZFS on root by default).

Bug description:
ZFS-on-Linux has its own I/O scheduler, so it sets the "noop" elevator
on whole disks used in a pool.
  https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/issues/90

It does not set the scheduler for a disk if a partition is used in a
pool out of respect for the possibility that there are non-ZFS
  partitions on the same disk.
  https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/issues/152

For regular pools, the recommendation is to use whole disks. For a
root pools, it's just the opposite. The typical case is that
partitions are used. And, for root pools, it is unlikely that the same
  disks have non-ZFS filesystems.

The debdiff in comment #5 applies cleanly to the latest package and
functions correctly. This is an important change for root-on-ZFS
users. It has no effect on non-root-on-ZFS installs, because the code
is only in the zfs-initramfs package.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Thunar freezes after a period of inactivity.
   * The process has to completely stopped so the user can resume usage.
   * Users have reported the issue to happen more frequently when files have
been modified in the current directory.
   * Several affected users have reported the issue resolved with this patch.

  [Test Case]

   * Open Thunar and wait.
   * Use another application to create files in the current directory.
   * After some time, the application will become unresponsive.

  [Regression Potential]

   * The patch eliminates a deadlock in Thunar's file monitor mechanism, so
regression potential is small.
   * Since Thunar will no longer freeze over time with this fix, other bugs
could become more pronounced.

  [Original Report]

Thunar keeps constantly freezing when I leave it inactive for a while.

I haven't seen it freeze while using it, but when I use some other
application for a while and switch back to Thunar window it is often
completely frozen and I have to kill it. Zero CPU usage, window not
responding. This started to happen a couple of weeks ago.

I have the exact same problem in two different installations, one on
virtual machine on Windows, other on a Asus Zenbook laptop.

  Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
  Thunar 1.6.10-2ubuntu1

Title:
accessing /dev/hvc1 with stress-ng on Ubuntu xenial causes crash

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in linux source package in Xenial:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [SRU REQUEST][XENIAL]

When running stress-ng --dev stressor accessing /dev/hvc1 causes the
stressor to lock up and never terminal.

  [FIX]
  Upstream commmit:From bbc3dfe8805de86874b1a1b1429a002e8670043e Mon Sep 17
00:00:00 2001
  From: Sam Mendoza-Jonas
  Date: Mon, 11 Jul 2016 13:38:57 +1000
Subject: [PATCH] tty/hvc: Use IRQF_SHARED for OPAL hvc consoles

  [TESTING]
Without the fix, stress-ng --dev run as root hangs, and one gets an irq
failed error and an oops:

  [ 2096.476610] hvc_open: request_irq failed with rc -16.
[ 2096.476634] Unable to handle kernel paging request for data at address
0x00a8
  [ 2096.476641] Faulting instruction address: 0xc0b0d8a4
[ 2096.476647] Oops: Kernel access of bad area, sig: 11 [#1]
  [ 2096.476650] SMP NR_CPUS=2048 NUMA PowerNV

With the fix, the stressor runs w/o any issues

  [REGRESSION POTENTIAL]
This is specific to one driver for ppc64el, so the risk potential is limited.
The fix has limited regression potential as it essentially marks a flag to
allow interrupt to be shared and fundamentally this is a very minor change to
the interrupt handling functionality in the driver.

  ---

stress-ng run as root, --dev stressor, accessing /dev/hvc1:

  [ 2096.476610] hvc_open: request_irq failed with rc -16.
