[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1718763] Re: linux-azure: 4.11.0-1012.12 -proposed tracker

2017-09-25 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
4.11.0-1012.12 - azure
Regression test CMPL.
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/testing/tracker-index.html

Issue to note in x86_64 (azure):
  libhugetlbfs - 1 failed (brk_near_huge, bug 1653597), Killed by signal 15,
bad configuration 3
  ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests - 11 failed (ioapic, vmexit_vmcall, access, hypercall,
realmode, sieve, syscall, svm, kvmclock_test, pcid, hyperv_clock)
ubuntu_lxc - Failed to start networking in ubuntu-cloud container

Note for the ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests, we have this test updated from
upstream. This test was skipped before (only setup runs), so I will use
this run as a baseline for future reference.

Bug description:
  == Comment: #0 - Breno Leitao  - 2017-06-28 08:00:40 ==
When a process accesses an invalid EA it results in a SEGV signal being
sent to the process, which typically results in the process being
killed. Process death isn't instantaneous however, the process may catch
the SEGV signal and continue somehow, or the kernel may start writing a
core dump for the process, either of which means it's possible for the
process to be preempted while its processing the SEGV but before it's
  been killed.

We need to have this fix on kernel 4.4 and 4.8:

  ---

  [Impact]
pulseaudio daemon crashes, interrupting sound output/input.

  [Test Case]
Theoretical test case (crash does not happen for all users):
  1. Find some headphones and/or microphone. Ensure you do not wear the
headphones during the test as it may be loud.
  2. Set audio output/input volumes to maximum.
  3. Unplug and replug the headphones/microphone.
  4. Check that that pulseaudio process is still running, with a start time
older than when you began this test case.

  [Regression Potential]
Low. This SRU affects the pulseaudio daemon only so the worst case would be
loss of sound output/input. The same patches have been released to
17.10 for a month already and zero regressions of the crashes have
  occurred worldwide since then.

  [Original Description]

This error is there when i get back to the computer after a while of
no use, and at login after restart. haven't seen this error while the
  system is "active"/in use.

I have been unable to provoke the error to come.

I'm not sure it is related, but when i plug in a headset, the audio volume
goes through the roof, and a loud (painfully so) scratching sound is coming
from the headset until i press Vol+. Vol- does nothing till i have pressed up
at least once.
But the bug report thing does not pop up when the sound issue is there.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1701222] Re: [Hyper-V] LIS daemons fail to start after disable/re-enable VM integration services

2017-09-25 Thread Joseph Salisbury
It is possible. I've added a systemd bug task.

** Also affects: systemd (Ubuntu)

Bug description:
Issue description: Hyper-V daemons fail to start after disable/re-
  enable VM integration services.

  Platform: host independent
Affected daemons - KVP, FCOPY and VSS.

Distribution name and release: Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 17.04
Kernel version: 4.11.0-rc7-next-20170421 (for Ubuntu 16.04),
4.10.0-19-generic (for Ubuntu 17.04)

  Repro rate: 100%

  Steps to reproduce:
1.Start VM with Guest Services enabled (FCopy daemon starts automatically)
2.Go to File > Settings > Integration Services, uncheck Guest Services
and apply (FCopy daemon will stop at this point)
3.Re-enable Guest Services from VM Settings (Fcopy daemon is not running).
This is the issue. systemd monitors for the service and if we have the hook
for the Guest Service, it tries to start the daemon again.
systemd attempt to start any of the LIS daemons will fail, but manually
executing the daemon binary, it will start the daemon.

  Additional Info:
  - the steps above can be repro'd with KVP / Data Exchange integration service
as well.
  - Manually starting hv_fcopy_daemon works fine.
  - other distros (RHEL) does not have this behavior, the LIS daemons are
started automatically by systemd once we re-enable the integration service.

On the upstream kernel and the upstream hv daemons, these messages are
recorded in syslog, once we re-enable the Guest service:
HV_FCOPY: pread failed: Bad file descriptor
  systemd[1]: hv-fcopy-daemon.service: Main process exited, code=exited,
status=1/FAILURE
systemd[1]: hv-fcopy-daemon.service: Unit entered failed state.
  systemd[1]: hv-fcopy-daemon.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Percona will segfault when exposed to medium load, almost imediately
   * This is because of a bug in upstream, which manifests only on PPC

  [Test Case]

   * Install and configure percona-xtradb-cluster-server
    * Run sysbench against configured node (only one node is needed, no need
for proper cluster):
     # sysbench --test=oltp --oltp-test-mode=complex --max-time=60
--num-threads=110 run
   * mysqld will segfault seconds withing starting the test

  [Regression Potential]

   * This is a cherry-pick from an upstream fix
(https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/MDEV-6450)
   * This is not fixed in upstream Percona becasue Percona does not officially
support non-intel archs.
   * Because code adds additional memory barriers there was a chance of
performance degradation on i386/amd64. However, intensive sysbench syntetic
loads proved this is not the case - there are no performance penalties.

  [Other Info]

   * percona-xtradb-cluster-5.5 is only available for Trusty.

   * Upstream commit:

https://github.com/MariaDB/server/commit/40497577ffd9f85557b15e08ad913f627b2e9530

  [Original Description]

I'm trying to set up percona-xtradb-cluster-5.5 on PPC machine. While
the package installs fine, as soon as I run sysbench oltp becnhmark
against it, Percona dies (even when I start the benchmark with just
  one connection).

I can also crash mysql manually, by updating the sbtest table (which
is created by the sysbench utility):

  mysql> update sbtest set pad = 'mario1' limit 100;
ERROR 2013 (HY000): Lost connection to MySQL server during query

Sometimes I need to repeat this update (with different values for
'pad' field) few times. This happens regardless of whether I run the
UPDATE inside the transaction or not.

This is the assertion found in the log file:

170117 21:10:55 InnoDB: Assertion failure in thread 7038321152 in file
buf0buf.ic line 1277
  InnoDB: Failing assertion: block->page.buf_fix_count > 0

  This is a single-node percona-xtradb-cluster server, without
wsrep_provied configured, run inside 14.04 lxc container on 16.04
  host.

I'm attaching the full log file, mysql configuration file and the core
  dumped.

The version of the package installed is this 5.5.37-25.10+dfsg-
  0ubuntu0.14.04.2.
