  [Impact]

   * This bug effects anyone deploying LXD with juju on a machine with
  interfaces configured as IP/mask. Since this is a very common use
  case, SRU is needed.

  [Test Case]

   * Detailed process can be seen at https://paste.ubuntu.com/26169937/

  [Regression Potential]

   * Potential for regression is low because of the nature of the error.
  It's just missing a case stanza for interfaces that are defined with
  IP/mask

  [Other Info]

   * Original report:

  I'm seeing this error as the status of multiple containers in my
  deploy:

  http://paste.ubuntu.com/26166720/

  I can't connect to the parent machines anymore either - it seems
  networking is totally hosed on the machines.

  This is with juju 2.3.1.

  [SRU Justification]

  == Impact ==

  Due to unexpectedly passing up a non-critical error to the ifup hooks,
  this causes network interfaces to not come up.

  == Fix ==

  This was fixed in Xenial (and already forward ported to Bionic)
  effectively allowing to bring up network interfaces via ifupdown after
  installing ubuntu-fan.

  == Testcase ==

  Basic installation with ifupdown method for configuring network
  interfaces (no longer default for Artful and later). Then installing
  ubuntu-fan and either reboot or use ifdown -a && ifup -a in case of
  being logged in locally. Without the fix interfaces will not come up
  properly.

  == Regression Risk ==

  Minimal, well tested in Xenial and not impacting Artful and later if
  ifupdown is not used.

Bug description:
  After upgrading to the Ubuntu EC2 AMI from 20180126 (specifically
  ami-79873901 in us-west-2) we have seen sssd hard locking c5 and m5
  EC2 instances after starting the service and CPU goes to 100%.

  We do not experience this issue with t2 or c4 instance types and we do
  not see this issue on any instance types using Ubuntu Cloud images
  from 20180109 or before. I have verified that this is kernel related
  as I booted an image that we created using the Ubuntu cloud image from
  20180109 which works fine on a c5. I then did a "apt update && apt
  install --only-upgrade linux-aws && systemctl disable sssd", rebooted
  the server, verified I was on the new kernel and started sssd with
  "systemctl start sssd" and the EC2 instance froze and Cloudwatch CPU
  usage for that instance went to 100%.

  I haven't been able to find much in the syslog, kern.log, journalctl
  logs, etc. The only thing I have been able to find is that when this
  happens I tend to see "^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@" in
  the syslog and sssd log files. I have attached several log files and
  the output of a "apport-bug /usr/sbin/sssd". Let me know if you need
  anything else to help track this down.

  Thanks,
  Paul

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1747426] Re: Vagrant <2.x can no longer fetch box metadata from Hashicorp

2018-02-07 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Tom, or anyone else affected,

Accepted vagrant into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vagrant/1.8.1+dfsg-
1ubuntu0.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance!

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  As of February 2nd, the legacy Vagrant Cloud URLs were disabled by
  Hashicorp[0], meaning that the versions of vagrant in xenial and
  artful can no longer fetch Vagrant boxes from the global index (which
  is a fundamental part of Vagrant use).

  [0] https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/vagrant-up/H8C68UTkosU

  [Test Case]

  Before fix:

  $ vagrant box add 'ubuntu/trusty64'
  [...]
  URL: ["https://atlas.hashicorp.com/ubuntu/trusty64;]
  Error: The requested URL returned error: 404 Not Found

  After fix:

  $ vagrant box add 'ubuntu/trusty64'
  ==> box: Loading metadata for box 'ubuntu/trusty64'
  box: URL: https://vagrantcloud.com/ubuntu/trusty64
  [...]

  [Regression Potential]

  These changes were cherry-picked directly from upstream (where they
  have been for several upstream releases), and they only affect the
  parts of the code concerned with the fetching of boxes (which doesn't
  work at all currently). I believe the potential for regression
  outside this functionality is low.

  [Original Report]

  When trying to update my ubuntu/trusty64 vagrant box, I get the
  following failure:

  $ vagrant box update --box 'ubuntu/trusty64'
  Checking for updates to 'ubuntu/trusty64'

  The error message is shown below:

  The requested URL returned error: 404 Not Found

  I have the following Vagrant version:

  $ vagrant --version
  Vagrant 2.0.2

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Since the package referred to in this bug is in universe or
multiverse, it is community maintained. If you are able, I suggest
coordinating with upstream and posting a debdiff for this issue. When a
debdiff is available, members of the security team will review it and
publish the package. See the following link for more information:

  There is Debian bug #867032 for this vulnerability.

  Current upstream versions of jabberd2 are not vulnerable; in
  particular version 2.6.1-1 that ships with artful is _probably_ not
  vulnerable, so this report only applies to the LTS release.

  Apparently fixed by this upstream commit:

  Currently we have a single git repository for each cloud kernel, which
  is used for xenial. With bionic, we will need to split those repos by
  series.

  For instance, linux-azure repository will move from:

  git://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-azure/

  To:

git://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-azure/+git/xenial

git://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-azure/+git/bionic

  Gcs-Git tag in the debian/control file needs to be updated
  accordingly.

  The same is valid for meta packages.

Bug description:
  Using:

  Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
  Chrony package 2.1.1-1

  I wanted to limit a chrony install to be IPV4 only (-4 flag), but from
  the looks of /etc/init.d/chrony and /etc/defaults there doesn't appear
  to be a clean way to do so.

  /etc/init.d/chrony has FLAGS="defaults" set, but the variable never
  appears to be used. There is also no reference to bring in anything
  from /etc/default/chrony (which doesn't exist either).

  Perhaps I'm overlooking something. Is there any way to cleanly add a
  startup flag to the service?

  Thanks!
