Customers with Ubuntu Advantage services enabled on Trusty/Xenial/Bionic find
APT config files disabled with comments after running `do-release-upgrade`.

  This requires either:
   1. manual intervention to uncomment and correct the apt suite for any
enabled Ubuntu Advantage service stored in
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu-*.list.

   OR

   2. Providing AllowThirdParty=yes configuration override during do-
release-upgrade to force upgrades of all third party ppa apt
  configuration urls.

Adding these supported commercial URLs to mirror.cfg allows these urls to be
treated as valid Ubuntu-proper apt URLs and would automatically update the
apt config files for any enabled Ubuntu Advantage offering without
  manual intervention.

  [Test Case]

  # test procedure
for release in trusty xenial bionic; do
   1. lxc launch daily image for the given $release enabling
ubuntu-advantage-daily PPA (to allow for upgrading to viable
ubuntu-advantage-tools deb
   2. attach the machine to ua with a token and enable any available apt-based
  services
   3. Download the -proposed tarball to locally perform a
"do-release-upgrade"
   4. unzip that proposed tarball
   5. Add ubuntu-advantage-daily PPA to mirrors.cfg # to avoid disabling on
upgrade
   6. and run ./${upgraderelease} upgrade on the CLI
   7. check contents of /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu-*.list to ensure all
UA-related apt URLs are still available
   8. apt-cache policy to check that permissions to said APT repositories are
live

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1877844] Re: [SRU] data corruption issue in all versions before 1.1.11

2020-10-15 Thread Gianfranco Costamagna
xenial 16.04: upgrade from the current 1.0.12 to 1.0.13-0ubuntu1.16.04.1
(a.k.a. stock 1.0.13 + this fix cherry-picked from 1.0 maint branch)
bionic 18.04: upgrade to 1.1.14-2ubuntu18.04.1 (sorry, just the versioning in
changelog was wrong!)
focal 20.04: upgrade to 1.1.14-2ubuntu20.04.1

I fixed the changelog, changed from 20 to 18 and reuploaded to bionic
(and uploaded the focal version too)

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]
  * Data is corrupted on some specific conditions

  [ Regression Potential ]
  * Really low, the package has an autopkgtestsuite that runs thousand of
tests, and the fix is since one year part of upstream code

  [ Other info ]
Per the "important notes" section of the borg docs:

  https://borgbackup.readthedocs.io/en/stable/changes.html

"Pre-1.1.11 potential index corruption / data loss issue
A bug was discovered in our hashtable code, see issue #4829. The code is used
for the client-side chunks cache and the server-side repo index.

Although borg uses the hashtables very heavily, the index corruption
did not happen too frequently, because it needed specific conditions
  to happen.

Data loss required even more specific conditions, so it should be rare
(and also detectable via borg check). [..]"

Theoretically affects all Ubuntu releases before 20.04 (focal.)

I know this is a universe package, but if anyone was up for an SRU
  that would be fantastic..

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1896638] Re: Path to swapfile doesn't use a static device path

2020-10-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package ec2-hibinit-agent - 1.0.0-0ubuntu11

ec2-hibinit-agent (1.0.0-0ubuntu11) groovy; urgency=medium

  * Disable suspending the system (LP: #1898087)
  * Always set resume device by PARTUUID instead of by device name.

Bug description:
When the agent inserts the resume device path and offset into the
kernel cmdline, it uses device names such as the following:

  `resume_offset=223232 resume=/dev/nvme1n1p1`

The issue is that `/dev/nvme1n1p1` is not static. On the reboot, the
block device may appear at `/dev/nvme0n1p1` resulting in failure to
find the swapfile used to suspend.

The solution should be to use a persistent block device naming scheme.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Enabling CONFIG_SUSPEND in the kernel exposes a potential deadlock on
Xen instance types on AWS during hibernation, so it has been disabled
in the linux-aws kernel as an extra safety measure to prevent this
  problem from happening.

  [Test Case]

Try to suspend the system as a regular user:
  $ /lib/systemd/systemd-sleep suspend
Sleep mode "suspend" is disabled by configuration, refusing.

On a system where this change is not present permission error appears:
  $ /lib/systemd/systemd-sleep suspend
Failed to open /sys/power/state: Permission denied

  [Regression Potential]

The fix is placing a configuration file drop-in to prevent the system from
suspending. On EC2 instances this is unlikely to cause unwanted side effects,
since suspended instances can't be woken up.
Outside of EC2 there is no use of the package itself, but this change disable
suspend when the package is installed.

  [Original Bug Text]

  From LP: #1892728
We also need to set "AllowSuspend=no" in /etc/systemd/sleep.conf (or a .d
file) as CONFIG_SUSPEND has been disabled in the kernel to improve the
robustness of hibernation.
