Question Brandonif we find these ads do we sent them directly to you
and you inform the list, or do we post them to the list and you put them on
 your home page?

HummmI dunno.

I guess it depends. I don't have a problem listing 'for sales' for
'list' members, or folks who taken some effort to contact someone on the
list, to post it. If however, we post anything on the website that is
just 'found', we are helping, (or maybe NOT, helping), someone who
doesn't even know what we are doing. And we have no way to find out if
its been sold. Or is available.

So...my thought would be no.

On the other hand, if you would like to be the 'list generator' of
"Bikes I've found in the world for sale" poster, you have my vote! ;^)

Brandon

PS-However, if you have links to sites that routinely sell GTS
motorcycles, I could those under the 'links' section of the website.

Great ideas Brandonwe'll drop the "A" in your title and make you a
Smart 1 hehehehe

I'll grap links as I find them (for the key search engines that is...not the
individual adds...you might also want to contact these engine webmasters and
see if there's a fee for referals...might offset the posting charges, your
time, etc.

As a start you can put a link for Ebay Motors Traderonline.com

Yeah sure Bryan...blame it on the wife...you'll be signing up to get a copy
of my upcoming book..."View From the Dog House"!

The screw holds the shift lever on the lower left side of the
bike...aluminum and a hex screwplus the large nut that holds on the
front sprocket...under the left gray cover, and behind the chain plate
(about 7 bolts if I recallchances are if you haven't replaced the chain,
it's ok

Re: Loose bolt or screw??

2000-06-25 Thread Michel Bijl

I just came in from the garage. I replaced the chain and sprockets on the
GTS. One of our Ironbutters mentioned this already but I cannot emphasize
enough the importance of checking the torque on your countershaft sprocket
nut. These are not torqued down tightly from the factory and WILL work
loose. The only reason they haven't started falling off in bunches is
because there is a foldover locking washer behind the nut that does it's
job. Remove the left side lower cowel and find the clutch slave cylinder
(you'll see the hydraulic line running to it). Remove the 3 bolts holding it
on, remembering that the long one goes in the top. Remove the bolt holding
the shifter to the shift shaft and slide the shifter off. Now remove the
bolts that hold the magnesium cover over the countershaft sprocket. Using a
hammer and a screwdriver (I know you're not suppose to do this to a
screwdriver) pry back the lock washer from the nut. This is a 32mm nut so
you might need to run down to Sears or flag down a SnapOn truck to retreive
a socket. Put the bike in neutral and slide a broom stick through the rear
wheel just below the swingarm. Now rotate the wheel so the broomstick snugs
up against the swingarm. (There's really no need to stand on the rear
brake!). NOW TORQUE DOWN THAT NUT to 50 ft/lb or 70 NM!!! Using the
screwdriver and hammer bend the locking washer back over the nut on TWO
sides for greater insurance. I know you're not suppose to reuse the lock
washer but YES, the old one works fine, no problem. Reassemble and your good
to go! We should probably put maintenance tips like this on the gts1000.org
site!

Subject: Loose bolt or screw??

Earlier an email was sent referring to a bolt or screw that seems to be
loose
or not seated from the factory. My wife deleted all of my saved messages
and
I was going to check my bike. Can someone please resend the message.

 Thanks,

Air Filters

2000-06-25 Thread Dave Morrow

I'm looking for a part number for the air filters on the GTS. My local dear
is asking $34.00 for each cartridge. These guys have always treated me
well, but that price seems a bit high to me. Any input would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks for everyone's help!

I just paid $57 for a pair but I'm sure better deals
can be had on-line...
