This is a 93 fiche, not a 94 fiche. But the bikes are practically identical.

It's a miracle we have it on line; don't think you'll find a 94 out there.

Richard from France did the scanning years back; I made it into a PDF.

Re: gear (not for the archives--fluff)

2000-09-08 Thread fred schneider

I, myself alway use protective clothing and in general don't think it should
be a law to wear it because I think the freedom we have becomes less and
less. If every risk is arranged by law, in a couple off years we are not
allowed to sport, drive or come outside anymore.

But on the other hand the fools riding without the right clothing are making
a lot of costs when it goes wrong and the dutch people have to pay for that.
Last summer I spoke a guy wearing onley a helmet and swimtrousers and he
said I: I know it's dangerous but today I drive carefull. I said: Yeah
that's true, later you put on you protective gear because you know then
you're gonna smash your bike into a car.

Fred Schneider

In the Netherlands there's talk about legislation about wearing protective
clothing on a bike. This protection will have to be approved bij some
standard, (iso). Reading the last few stories on this subject, I feel our
government is willing to do the right thing. If people are stupid enough
to
ride without protective gear, the law might help them. This summe I saw
several bright guys riding at very high speeds (+ 200km/h) in just a pair
of
shorts, a T-shirt and open slippers.Penalties are to be quite severe.

Re: MRA photo request; rear brake gremlin

2000-09-08 Thread fred schneider

Could it be air comming trough the rubber hoses. The advise is to change
them after some years. I have teflon/steel lines and never have to bleed.

Fred Schneider

My rear brake loses pressure over about a two week span. I can find no
apparent leaks in the system and the level in the rear master cylinder
does
not dimininsh over that period. I get a small amount of air upon
bleeding
 at
the rear caliper and this cures the problem for a couple fo weeks.
Mine does this also but it takes longer to require bleeding again usually
every couple months. I have had the HPU replaced under warranty to try and
cure the problem and two shops could not figure out the problem so I just
decided to live with it and flush out the system every couple months.

windscreens are shorter than OEM and lower the windblast down to
 around the
neck instead of buffetting the head. It's about the same as the Yamaha

That's only true if you are of a certain height. I found that although I
liked the look of the MRA screen (the shadowline tint) it was way too low
for me, and I preferred the stocker.

It seems to me that putting on one's seatbelt should be about the 2nd thing

be reminded makes me think the other person has other things on their mind

RE: MRA photo request; rear brake gremlin

2000-09-08 Thread Henry S. Winokur

I experience this about every ~4000 miles. I had the rear brake
 rebuilt, with
new seals caliper under warranty. Same problem. My solution...I
 installed
SpeedBleeders on the rear brake (and front, and clutch) and I
 bleed the brake
about every ~3500 miles. It takes about :30, costs about $4.50
 for fresh brake
fluid, and I exercise the ABS at the same time.

How about replacing the brake lines with Teflon lined SS?

The new TPS is here, the new TPS is here!!!

2000-09-08 Thread Steve Baglien

Success?

Seems so. I installed the new TPS in my bike and have taken it for a
ride. The bike accelerates much stronger than with the old TPS, and so
far things are looking really good. No off idle surging, no error
status 13, 15, and no cut in throttle. Even on the centerstand, I can
hold very close to 5,000 rpm without +-500 rpm occelations.

Thanks again to the two un-named list members that donated GTS
electronic components to help diagnose the problem and to the members
that gave reasonable suggestions as to what the possible failure points
were.

Lastly, a recommendation to use Waynesville Cycle in NC to order parts
(you can find them on the net, they also advertise in Cycle). I was
able to purchase the TPS for $115.25. My local dealership wanted about
$175 for the same part - the service was quick and I got exactly what I
needed (even came down $10 on a Suzuki DR 350 start button that I
ordered at the same time -- just to beat the other mail order
competition)

The nightmare ends... Final saga

2000-09-08 Thread Greg Christopher

Well,
I can't say that Gilroy Yamaha can really be recommended
in the future for repair service, although it seems like they
are nice people and "kind of" know what they're doing. I'll
clarify that later.
I called customer service, got Jordan 2 days ago, and he
was actually not very nice to me. By his tone of voice, it
was obvious he was challenging me on whatever I had to
say. Something in their records said I had already had
the pump replaced in March, it took a while to get past
that idiocy in the conversation.
When I told him Gilroy wanted to charge me 4 hours,
(7 - 3) he promised to call them and get back to me. Well when
he finally got back to me the next day, he said that it was
3 hours, and that the job may have taken more time than
usual on my bike.
I told him I had one question. Yamaha promised to pay for
the replacement of this pump; were they going to do it? At
which point he got all uppity and asked me if I wasn't happy
that they were helping out with it. At this point, I accidentally
disconnected us. When he called back, he said that they'd
cover the difference if I mailed him a reciept and other reciepts
showing that the fluids were changed regularly. At that point
I had to agree with it, and hung up. Of course, since most
Yamaha dealers that I've dealt with are absolutely retarded,
there has been nothing but further reinforcement lately to
back me up in NEVER bringing my bike to a dealership for
any service, unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. Between scratches,
overtightened chains, and down right stupidity, I can't recommend
a single place in the area, besides a BMW place, or Honda of
Milpitas.

So I got down there, and I got a new story when I went to pick
up the bike. They spoke with Yamaha corporate, and they agreed
to handle the invoice outright. Fine, lets just get the bike. Well
at first they couldn't find it. When they finally rolled it out, it
was covered with thick dust. In fact, one of my RKA straps was
snapped in half just from the exposure. Of course when I left the
bike there it had a cover on it, so that it wouldn't be exposed to a month of
dust sun and moisture while I was away. It was obvious they didn't
use the cover at all.
In fact, when I asked for the cover, they couldn't even find it.
After they gave up looking, I took one look in the office and saw
it up on a shelf. It seemed pretty obvious they had no intention of
using it.
Well, to make matters slightly worse, when I went up
front to find a bungie cord to hold the cover (since I forgot to
bring one), they apparently started giving the bike a lemon pledge
job. Not rinsing the dirt off first so that the paint wouldn't be
scratched or leaving the bike in the shade for a while, mind you.
Now I say "slightly worse" because I appreciated the effort. And
mechanic who was cleaning it also did the work. He said that if he
had seen a cover with the bike, he certainly would have left it
on the bike. He also explained the length of time needed. According
to him (who happened to be a certified beemer mechanic) since
the pump is below the master cylinders, it is extremely difficult to get
the air out of the pump. He had to connect it while it was outside of
the bike and go through lots of gyrations to bleed the air out of the
system. It sounds like they were thorough in their work anyway, and
the bike felt fine when I got it back.
So thus I qualify. Despite perhaps being good guys and good
mechanics, in Gilroy, one hand doesn't know what the other is doing.
I experienced a huge delay at the outset because they delayed for
some reason in ordering the pump. I went down in early march,
and when I waited 3 weeks and called them, they hadn't even ordered
it yet for some reason. Then I called again in a month or so, and they
said it was supposed to be there, but they couldn't find it; perhaps it
went into one of the other GTSs. Jsus. So I told them to call me when
it came in, and I'd bring it down right away.
3/4 through the summer, I finally gave up and called them. Of course
it had been there for a long time at that point. But they said their
service manager had changed positions over that time period. Well fine,
but what kind of system is it when you can't keep track of orders when
someone changes jobs?

Overall, I'm just as pissed off or more pissed off at these guys as
I have been at any dealership.

Someone renew my faith in a single Yamaha dealership... SOMEWHERE...

Just for the heck of it.

-Greg

Re: Radar Dectector/Jammer

2000-09-08 Thread Alan Tooraen

Henry, I know a guy who sold these. This was in 1996, so the new phantoms
might be better, but the old ones did not work at all in the jamming mode. We
tested two of them with a police friend and he got a reading every time with no
problems. It is also against the law in most states to operate a jammer. There
are jammers that work, but they are fairly large, and are active type devices
that do not scramble, but overpower the signal that bounces back to the police
unit. These active jammers are a major league no no as they also violate FCC
laws. The lazer jammers are about the size of a cigarette pack and supposedly
emit infra red light that confuses the Lazer. I was told by the people at
Valentine who make the best Lazer/radar detector in the world that this theory
is patently false. They said it would take a huge amount of infra red light to
accomplish this feat. So if you mounted the under barrel infra red projector
from a M-60 tank on your vehicle that might work. They only weigh about 300 #
and are about the size of a 32" tv.
All The Best,
Alan Tooraen

Unless I'm mistaken, they are absolutely illegal, because they are
transmitters, not just detectors...that is if they work. All reports I've
ever read (not that I keep up on the subject, i don't) say they are a sham.

 I wouldn't waste my $$ on them.

Is this the wilson Yamaha Web page???

2000-09-08 Thread Greg Christopher

This is what I had...

http://www.mbnet.mb.ca/~neelin/motorcycle/gts.html

No attempt at any portion of this URL seems to work.

And pardon me for the Newbie question, but is there a
"Kind of main page for this rag-tag fugitive fleet of GTS owners"?

-Greg

Tag- you're it.

I tried with Adobe free trial, but it doesn't seem to work with clickable
images. It only generate the first page.

The 1994 GTS-1000 fiche are now available at :
  http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/4904/PAGES/mfindex.htm

You will see the link for the 1994 fiche.
I believe that it is for the Canadian and American model.

This is a 93 fiche, not a 94 fiche. But the bikes are
  practically identical.

   It's a miracle we have it on line; don't think you'll find a 94
  out there.

Richard from France did the scanning years back; I made
 it into a PDF.

Re: MRA photo request; rear brake gremlin

2000-09-08 Thread nicholas.threader

Bill ,
you are probably correct on this one .
I have always thought it was ( old dried up brake fluid )
because it was a yellowish colour before rubbing.
Anyway better out than in .

Thanks for the info.

Another thing to check is , are the two halves of the caliper bolted up
tight.
Also the 'O' rings in between the two halves , are in good state of repair,
but their probably ok , unless caliper was loose / stripped down alot.
