Re: Potential ECU Failure
Anyone have any info on this. My brothers 93 died. Looks like no gas getting to injectors. Fuel pump works. Just started looking into it. Anybody have a access to a spare unit ? Will be busy this weekend to sort this out. Thanks, Stan

In my few years of being on here...we've danced around the topic, but never officially talked about it..so here it goes: Body armor...anyone wear it (besides inside the suits)? If so what type, where? Recently I had the displeasure of meeting a young man at a stop sign. I was about to do a California roll (about 5-8mph) in a new subdivision where no one lives yet. Looked, slowed, no one coming, about to release the clutch and brakes...boom out of the corn of my eye comes this kids "flying" about 60. I reacted, but was already turning. Cold...mid forties, warm tires, but not on the edges, to much brake grab, lockup and down I go. Slow speed roll off bike, (quite neat actually!) hit helmet on payment, shoulder, hip, etc. Kid took off, never looking back (but he saw me go down!) Joe Rocket suit worked quite well. Not a high speed slide, but no signs of wear except where I straddled the bike and hit the exhaust pipe (didn't feel it). Small chunk out of the helmet (time for a new one anyway). Bent my pinkie, quick straightening (Medic!) The examined the SV for damage. One cracked panel with minor scrap...nothing else. Few squirts of super glue, she's OK. No bruised ego just my shoulder hip. Fact is I didn't realize I had hit my hip. Joe Rocket suit has pads in shoulders, elbows Knees. Nothing in the hips. Seriously think (almost 2 weeks later it still hurts)a hip armor would have helpedany experiences to compare? Shawn Pearsall

I only had a little armour from my MX days, and have never worn it on the street. Been down twice, once in '88 when I was hit from behind at an air show at Andrews AFB with the wife. Hit by a camper/van at about 5-10 mph, pushed into the car in front. Bike was serious shortened, we both got bumps and bruises. The driver of the van had been drinking at the air show, and the MP's took all sorts of pictures and arrested the driver. I had a field day with the guys insurance company. He did not tell them he was arrested, and when I pointed it out (and had the arrest report) they got real scared and started quoting figures to avoid a lawsuit. Thats how I got the Katana 1100. Second time was on the Woodrow Wilson bridge going into Alexandria VA, about '91. Got caught in a sudden summer thunderstorm (visibility was almost zero), and while changing lanes to go to Old Town Rt 1, I hit a puddle of standing water, hydroplaned and went down in a split second. The water helped though, it was like a high speed fall on water ski's. Knocked the wind out of me, bruise on the hip where I slid on top of my pager, bike had body scrapes. Re: New Topic!
Shawn, Let's see, where to begin, oh yes, I know..OUCH DAMMIT There. Now, for the armor. I don't use it. I have two sets of leathers, neither with armor, both with extra padding and thicker leather in key spots. Armor is likely useful though. What armor does is spread a sharp or pointed impact over a larger area. This in turn can help to avoid a broken bone, etc., but in a truly serious impact you'll still break things. Most track folks use armor and swear by it, but people I know often avoid it on the street. On a similar topic--back protectors. Does anyone on this list use one for regular street riding? Armor and back protectors are both standard fair on most tracks. I've not checked the club-level web pages to see if the rules mandate them, but it may be required. A good idea none-the-less. Oh.one last thing. Speaking of breaking bones, did ya get a plate number on the @$$ho!e who started this mess??? Want the GTS Touring Society to show up in numbers and use our no-longer-functional stock chains (we've all converted, remember?) to beat the tar out of him??? Huh? Huh :) Phil On Tue, 17 Oct 2000, Shawn Pearsall wrote: In my few years of being on here...we've danced around the topic, but never officially talked about it..so here it goes: Body armor...anyone wear it (besides inside the suits)? I've clear coated the bead blasted area, but I just figured I'd continue to polish the metal area. It seems like the wheel may have had a "Clear powder coat" previously, and rather than try and figure out how the hell to do that, I'm just riding it bare, which requires a shine up about once a month. Never had problems with the rear; chain lube does a nice job protecting it. :) -Greg \|/ \|/ Greg Christopher ||[EMAIL PROTECTED] ICQ: 4997683 PAGER: http://wwp.mirabilis.com/4997683 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Lottery: A tax on people who are bad at math.

RE: New Topic!
Ooch, eech, ouch! I know Aerostich has a hip pad option for their Darien suit, but I didn't see the need (does my ass look big in my Aerostich?). Anyway Shawn, there are several companies that sell body armor that is stiched to a mesh cloth (Knox, etc.). It can be worn under your choice of outerware and seems to be popular with some squidlies in our area. It sounds like your suit did it's job and that soreness can be expect no matter how much armor you're wearing. Ride safe buddy! Re: New Topic!
Hope the SV heals quickly, Shawn. I'm sure you'll do well. A few years ago I hit some gravel around a blind, tight curve and went down at probably about 30 mph. Nice easy slide out. Wearing my Aerostich. I hit my butt more than my hip. No padding there (hip pads are an option) but I came out with no damage at all. None. Not even sore the next morning. In fact, I had the bike picked up before my buddy behind me got stopped. (It wasn't the GTS.) The 'stich is pretty thick and acts as padding even where this isn't any extra. It's the only non-leather suit accepted at some track events. One thing, I'm pretty sure I would have chipped an elbow if that hadn't been padded, one reason I almost never wear that stylish leather jacket that has no armor. I've thought about Motoport's arrmored gizmo that can fit under a jacket. It's well ventilated and can be worn alone (although it looks kinda stupid) on a really warm day. No direct experience, though. Now if you want to talk about some bruises and scrapes, let me tell you about my mountain biking! (Screaming downhill in just shorts and very lightweight tee shirt. Dodging cactus, rocks and cliffs I feel stupid, but hey, I pedal up that mountain! Doing a 5,000-foot vertical climb this Saturday.
