Re: New Topic!
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] What armor does is spread a sharp or pointed impact over a larger area. This in turn can help to avoid a broken bone, etc., but in a truly serious impact you'll still break things. Most track folks use armor and swear by it, but people I know often avoid it on the street. On a similar topic--back protectors. Does anyone on this list use one for regular street riding? People probably avoid it because it is expensive, heavy, hotter (than not wearing it), and not that comfortable. Funny, I just described a full face helmet, and most of us use one nonetheless. I say go for it - I won't buy a motorcycling jacket unless it has full armor, and I mean the works, not that spongy crap in the elbows. Of course this does not guarantee anything - you can get hurt, you bet. My brother was wearing full body armor when he had the accident that took his life, along with half the heart of every member of my family. If you can afford it, wear it. You'll be more protected, and your loved ones will feel better too, knowing that at least you're taking every precaution to minimize the risk that is always there. About back protectors: I don't use one, not because I don't want to, but because I have not found a jacket featuring one that fits me well. I will if I find a suitable one. Best one I've seen is the "unforgettable bridge" featured in Aerostich's site... if you can handle its attachment method (most people balk at that, myself included). My lovely boss in the back seat wears a fabulous Spidi jacket with rigid armor and semi-rigid back protector. She refused initially saying it was uncomfortable, but when I asked her to put it back on after my bro went, she did and has since grown used to it. Speaking about that, I _have_ to give the Spidi guys a plug. That H2OUT Tour S3 jacket is awesome in quality and fit, rugged, nice details, great winter outer gear. If you're looking for a new jacket, you must try to take a look at it. If you drop by www.spidi.it , also check the airback protector. Great... if you're built like the guy in the pics. And if you are, man, I hate you... Roberto.

I don't believe that riding suits, leathers and their associated armors are designed for things that you might hit AFTER you've gone down. Obviously, when it comes to protection, more is better but I think riding suits are designed with the thought of surviving the fall, slide and roll. First, my sincere condolences on your loss Roberto. Actually, I find a full face helmet to be VERY comfortable and the hotter part is GOOD during the colder months. I love my Arai helmet and would feel uncomfortable riding without it; psychologically and otherwise. Actually, I find a full face helmet to be VERY comfortable and the hotter part is GOOD during the colder months. I love my Arai helmet and would feel uncomfortable riding without it; psychologically and otherwise. Me, too. Just as I would feel/look weird without my Hi Viz Lime Yellow Aerostich. People say they can see me. That's GOOD. If they can't see me, then I know that they've got their head where the sun doesn't shine AND they have their eyes closed, or they're simply unconscious. Re: New Topic!
I also have a Spidi jacket that I wear all the time. I Bought the "NT Trans" jacket a couple of years ago and haven't crash tested it yet really (knock on wood). It has hard armor in the elbow and shoulder, a zip out liner for cooler weather and is for the most part waterproof. The back protector was an option for this jacket and I know I should get it but I just haven't for some strange reason. At any rate it is my first protective jacket and I love it, don't ever ride with out it. I think next though I will be looking at an Aerostich one piece for full coverage protection and flexible comfort. Everything I've heard or read about the 'stich has been very positive so I'm pretty sure that will be my next protective gear purchase. But definitely Spidi makes good stuff ! Darren
Re: Aerostitch
Well, I don't commute, but the Aerostich is absolutely legendary as far as how well it holds up over extended use. This is where it rates higher than almost any other brand. Color fade is mild problem in some cases (call them and ask which colors hold up best), but that is about all. I still see some 10 and 12 year old suits getting top dollar on ebay and such because of this performance and reputation. So my joe rocket has pads, but can I substitute harder pads in the key pockets? If so where can you purchase theses materials? SP
RE: Aerostitch
I wear my Aerostich Darien commuting usually 3-4 days a week on the GTS. Don't get red!! It fades terribly after repeated exposure to the sun and Aerostich will tell you that when you're placing the order. There is NOTHING they can do about it. The colors that seem to hold up best are black or gray. There is NO WAY this suit will wear out in a year or two and if there is a problem with any part of the suit simply send it in for an immediate repair. If it is a problem with a zipper or a torn seam, they will repair it FREE. I can't say enough good things about the company and the product. You REALLY don't need to wash it very often even if you wear it everyday. Simply take a damp cloth to get bugs of other dirt off small areas. If you do have to wash the whole suit, take out the pads (very simple) and wash with Nikwax http://www.nikwax.com Techwash and treat with Nikwax TX-Direct Wash-in to refresh it's water repellancy. RE: Armor Where?
I bought some Spidi armor separately from Lockart. I think that they are better than the other I've seen. They are made of compact foam (Compact Styrofoam ?) like the one that are in the helmets. I feel that they would be able to absorb a bigger force. About the hip pad. I don't think that they are as much useful than elbow and shoulder pads has far as falling off the bike. But for hitting anything after that, any padding anywhere is a good idea. Re: Aerostitch
Hello, This is a true Aerostitch story that comes from the VFR list. This is from memory so forgive me the exact details but the meaning should still be clear. A regular poster was commuting to work on the freeway. I believe he said he was going in the mid sixties traveling in the next to right hand lane. Someone in a car in the far left lane decided that they needed to get off at the offramp they were jsut about passing. This person swerves over 4 lanes of traffic and clips the rear end of the listers bike. Bike kicks away from him sideways and somehow he is sliding down the road on his back headfirst looking right at the SUV that was behind him that is now barreling down on him. He's says the look on the SUV drivers face was priceless. Cause he's sliding down the road at ~60mph and waving his arms/ motioning the driver to slow down. Which she did. The bike was totaled, he was a little sore and the suit was a little bit worn in places but he was okay. I believe that he had the standard aerostich armor and hip, back protectors in the suit. After this story I think have the guys on the VFR list ordered suits and caused a huge backlog at the factory. Soon as I saw Kev's mention of this stuff I logged on. They refer you to two sites to buy. The 10 oz. is about $10. HOWEVER, www.REI.com has the pair of 'em for $4.99! They note that's 74% off. Fluff : Aerostitch
In the "for what its worth" department, I bought the grey with black ballistics. My theory was it would match any bike and it looked like a cool starfighter flight suit. :-) Mike The downside is that you will also blend-in when you are laying on the tarmac ;-) Richard

Re: Potential ECU Failure
Hi Stan, Can you give some more info, what have you checked? why do you think their is no gas getting to the injectors? the pump may be running but not building up the right pressure. The filter may be blocked. Do you have gas pressure build up after the filter ( to the fuel rail ). With the air box removed , using a long bladed screwdriver ( blade to injector , handle to ear ) you may be able to hear the injectors clicking when spinning over. atb Nick T
