air filters
My dealer convinced me to order a set of these over priced filters for my bike when it had about 35000 miles on it. We where planning on a tune up. When I picked up the bike he handed me a paper bag with two filter boxes in it. I asked why he didn't use them. He did, put the new ones in but said I should keep the old ones because they really weren't that dirty! I'd check the filters to see if you really need them before ordering them. You might try to cross reference them with one of the major filter manufactures, like WIX or Fram. Check at your local napa store, they can cross it for you. Jason
Re: help: my GTS wants to shake me off!
I run the three piece set up with 46L. side bags and a 36L. top case. No problems but I rarely take my hands off the bars. jason Roberto Alonso wrote: Hi guys, I have a big problem with my bike, hope you can help with it. I'd like input from people with similar problems, if there are any. I used to have a GIVI Monorack (the platform holding one case), with a Maxia 50 l. topcase installed. With this rig, my bike was super stable and wouldn't shake the bars even if induced to, case on or off. Problem is, I just installed a Wingrack (the thingy that holds three cases), and now the bike shakes furiously if I take my hands off the bars even for half a second. It is a vicious, self amplifying shimmy that would spit me off the bike if not stopped immediately (scared the sh*t out of me when it first happened, catching me completely off guard). This happens even at 30 mph, so I refuse to believe it is an aerodynamic problem, and besides, it will also happen even with all cases off. I can't believe it's the extra weight either, since it's just a very few pounds heavier than the Monorack. It does have struts running from it to the passenger pegs, though. Maybe some kind of stabilizer bar effect that does just the opposite? increased rigidity leading to less suppleness and absortion? Most important, what can I do to get rid of it? It is extremely aggravating, and I don't want to lose the Wingrack, since I'd like to travel and I already have the cases. Hope you guys can help! One last thing: My XJ 600 had this problem with the Monorack, but it was due to the topcase: case on, shake like a teenager, case off, problem solved. My brother had exactly the same bike and case, and it was just fine.In this case, I repeat: any configuration with Monorack, ok, any configuration with Wingrack, and it's balls in the neck for me, although having all cases off diminishes it somewhat. Side cases seem to have no effect at all whether on or off. Help! A very scared Roberto.

It seems to be a great package but where is the ABS, and what about my Hub Steering :-) From what I've read, this bike is not coming to the USA. Too bad, I'd have a silverdamnit - with top case heated grips on order! Yamaha just can't seem to get their marketing shit together, yet again! Re: Roadcrafter 1 piece vs. GTS saddlebag ;-) GIVI monorack vs. wingrack
Hey, thats a good idea! I'd like to know the answer to this one too! jason Anton Tropashko wrote: Does Aerostich Roadcrafter 1 piece suit fit into the GTS saddlebag? Easily? Could I install GIVI monorack for MAXIA topcase? I already have (Krausers? Yamaha?) saddlebags mounted and I would like to keep them instead of replacing with Givi sides.
re: Yamaha's warranty VS Normal wear.
I've used Golden Specto in my 93 since it was new. It now has 60K on it and doesn't use a drop of oil ! Maybe there is something to that synthetic oil argument ! Jason
Aux lights
I have spent the last year perfecting a suitable set of mounting brackets for a set of Piaa 1200 to go on my gts. I've done it. Well really I found someone to do it. I wanted something to come out from under the mirrors and my craftsman did the rest. They are perfect. And the 1200's make night - day!! I hope to have pictures up soon and I hope to have some of these for sale if there is interest. Once you have some real lights like the Piaa's you wonder how you ever rode in the dark before. Jason
Re: Rally sites
Now does anyone know of a place in the area that would have a motorcycle oriented event or race or some great tourist attraction that could not be missed? (Like the great malls in Edmonton and Minneapolis =) ) I would like to meet everyone but I would also like it to give more for spouses and others who would be coming along. Remember if she is not happy, NO one is happy. Guys, I have all this in place already for the COG rally I'm planning in Johns town August 23 -26, 2000. Quality site seeing, great motel (Holiday Inn $79.00 within walking distance of food drink shopping), saturday night banquet and I guarantee you some great riding in Western Pa northern Maryland/West Virginia. I already have at least 8 routes of varying mileage mapped out and on paper. I've done this all before, all the thought is already done: can you say smooth sailing? I have the local Convention bureau on my side! Check out www.visitjohnstownpa.com for a preview. And look at the "Thunder in the Valley" listing. 20,000 riders strong this past June. Johnstown loves motorcycles!! I am also sure that we would be welcomed by the COG group! The more the merrier! it's my rally! And we'll most likely have a mixer at the local Kaw/Yam shop Friday night. The only thing lacking is great camping, close's place is about 20 miles away. Not trying to push my opinion or hometown on the group, I just know how hard something like this it to do, and am offering my experience to the group. Jason Kaplitz
oil changing
I changed my oil tonight and have a question to propose to the group. If you tilt the GTS over (leaning on one leg of the center stand) while draining the oil you will get considerably more (a 1/2 pint) oil to drain out than if you just let the bike sit on the center stand. Do you think this extra drainage is necessary or is it over kill? Why isn't there a drain on the bottom of the sump? to get all the oil sludge out? Jason cog #62
Re: Number of ABS Repairs so far
I just picked my 93 up today from the dealer after having the ABS unit replaced under warranty. 56,000 miles - no questions asked. jason cog#62 "Crisler, Jon" wrote: Does anybody have an estimate of the number of ABS repairs done so far under the Yamaha agreement ? Re: GTS- headlite adjustment
Good Luck, my headlight has sucked since the day I bought my GTS. I even had the dealer replace the whole assembly under warranty just after I got the bike. It still sucks. I didn't ride much at night because of it. I got a set of Piaa 1200 and they make up for it now. But without them I'm in the dark! This is the only true bitch I have about this machine after having put almost 60K on it. I turned them adjustment screws every which way but loose!@#$% Jason kaplitz COG #62 John Laurenson wrote: Sorry for stupid questions.don't have a service manual yet. Headlight adjustment. re[2]: Memorial Day WV ride!
There is a BMW rally memorial day weekend near Cass Wv. It's held at Boyer Station Motel Campground along Rt. 28 just north of Green Bank Wv. I'll be there, along with about 150 other riders, I'm sure you guys would also be welcome. If you want more info on that rally email me and I'll get you the details tonight when I'm at home. Broken ABS
well I've discovered that my ABS brakes aren't working on my 93 gts. Can someone update me on the ongoing debate with Yamaha as to if it's covered or not under warranty. My bike has 53,000 miles on it. thanks Jason
Side panels
I am in the market for a set of side panels for a 93 gts-1000. The red ones that run the length of the bike and form the rear tail section. Anyone got a pair or single to sell? Jason Cog #62
