[h-cost] Fw: Fabric Advice

2008-10-30 Thread SPaterson
Not historic in nature, but can anyone advise other than my suggestion of a
vinegar/water spray and brushing with a clean clothes brush?

Thank you

I need your advice, please. Carole-Ann has an expensive 100% light wool suit
that is shiny from too much dry cleaning. What corrective action, if any, can
be taken?

Love,

Mom

Bess, I don't know why I didn't realize you were on this list.

I think a vinegar/water spray and brushing are a good start; it seems
likely that the problem is over-pressing, rather than the actual
cleaning process, which means the fibers are flattened and polished.
The brush would raise a little bit of a nap and cut down on reflection.

If it were just the wool layer, and mine, I'd consider immersing it in
lukewarm water to let the fibers relax to something like their
original state. I don't think that's a good idea with a finished
suit, though. (I don't know what water-soluble sizings might be in
the interfacings)

Are you talking about the one where we are discussing the conference about
Arnold and other such conferences or a different one?
