your site is marvelous! I was a tiny bit surprised to not see ANY
Rational/Aesthetic/Pre-Raphaelite type things, but then I went out and hunted
up Pinterest pages with those terms and found sufficient to satisfy, 8-)

I did really love the older things, the Regencys especially. The gentleman's
frock coat, oh my! that wisp of a Regency corset!!!

thanks much! it's a great idea, and you're doing it very well, IMHO.

Hi Marjorie!

When you clicked on an image it took you to pinterest? I'll check on that
when I get home. It should only do that if you click on the "P" that happens
during a mousehover. Anywhere else on the picture should just bring up a
larger version of that picture. If you want a larger version of any of the
pictures, let me know. I do have an archive of them.

What drives me nuts are the sellers that say you can cut up these lovely gowns
for doll clothing. Sellers advocating the destruction of what are in many
cases some of the few remaining examples of a specific style is irresponsible
to me.

I allow anyone to comment on any of the posts. If a seller sees one of the
gowns they sold up, they are always welcome to comment or add any further
clarification. I also love it when others comment for further clarification on
various items I put up.

I do sometimes email the sellers to tell them what time period their piece is
from but well, some were very insistant that it was Great Aunt Mertyls that she
wore to her wedding in 1923 despite the clearly defined waist, above the knee
length skirt, and wild colors only seen in the 1960's and never again trimming.
 ;-)

Sincerely,

Isabella

Re: [h-cost] Is anyone there?

2013-01-09 Thread Pixel, Goddess and Queen

I made a 14th c. hood for a friend, with these nifty cast buttons (made by
someone else and painted by me) and there will be photos eventually, but I
didn't *get* any costume goodies. Then again, we didn't really exchange
gifts this year anyway. I did finally find fabric for the lining for my
winter coat (why yes, this is the second year of winter sans coat so far,
why do you ask?) and it was ALREADY IN MY STASH So that was kind of
like a present. :-)

We've seen no messages since December 18 - is everyone really that busy?

Typical post-holiday question - What costume goodies did you get this year?

I got "Steampunk Fashion" by Spurgeon Vaughan Ratcliffe. Also a bunch of
cooking gadgets.

Hi there Isabella,

What a great idea-- those are indeed ephemeral and will disappear
into-- buyers wearing them, possibly . So you are recording
the doomed before they go away forever. One can only hope the buyers
might be responsible collectors rather than consumer/wearers.

I will confess to disappointment when I clicked on one of the earlier
images to find Pinterest expects me to join it to see them. I'm so
tired of joining sites and logging in with "secure" passwords I could
scream, so I sadly did not join and get to see the lovelies up close.

I notice you let the sellers speak for themselves. Might you be adding
comments later on? Some sellers of these kinds of things are (to put
it kindly) rather ignorant of antique sewing techniques and styles ;)
