[h-cost] ? on library search and article databases (Althea Turner)
I can't find that CIBA Review currently exists. My sources don't show what years it was pubbed, though my (admittedly erratic) memory seems to be telling me it did exist. However, CIBA Journal ran from 1957 - 1993. It was indexed in Chemical Abstracts; in Textile Technology Index (1973-1989); & in World Textile Abstracts. Also indexed in the International Management Information Business Digest. Good Luck finding a library that carries them, we certainly don't.Former titles: Ciba-Geigy Journal (Switzerland) (0366-5380); Ciba Journal (Switzerland) (0007-8395) All this info is from a WONDERFUL source called Ulrichsweb. If your home library doesn't have it, or the print version called _Ulrich's Periodicals Directory_, send me the name of the magazine or journal you are interested in, and I'll look up the indexing for you. But, hurry, my electronic subscription will be running out soon, and it's MUCH faster to do this kind of thing electronically than in the dead trees version. If you send your question to the email address below, I'll get the question faster than if you send it to the list. [h-cost] A question for the List Mind: Kimono
hello folks, The local art Museum is putting together a Kimono show next year. I'm working on their request for a list of magazines to advertise it in and/or send anouncements to. They asked for magazines on Japan. I'm also going to give them textiles, & fiberart. So, what magazines do you think they should hear about? Just off the top of my head: Fiberarts Threads Sew News Flying Needle Orient Express Oriental Art Japan Plus Japan Journal any number of museum related mags, which they probably know better than I do I'm hoping for you to give me relatively less well known historical society & hobbyist titles. So what do you read, that prints listings of museum exhibits? I'll be grateful for anything you can think of! Thanks! Suzanne said: Mary, I love your tag line. ("We don't have issues, we have subscriptions.") Thanks! I just wish I could remember where I stole it! [h-cost] Re: 1960s/1970s Fringed Clothing for Males
I had a lovely suede jacket with fringe in 6th or 7th grade. That would have been '67 or '68. It was a boy's hand-me-down, so, that makes the manufacture date '65 at the very latest. SUCH a lovely golden tan color, and wonderful texture. I don't know what to call the style exactly - think Wild Bill Cody. Well, "hand" is absolutely the correct word. But who is the audience? If this will be in _Medieval Clothing & Textiles_, I'd say that anyone reading it who doesn't understand "hand" must soon learn it. On the other hand, if we're talking publication in a general interest magazine, perhaps the phrase should be "appearance and handling qualities". On the gripping hand, if this is going into a sewing or craft magazine, use "hand", the readers will know it. See you Friday!
