Re: [h-cost] Patterns date question
Almost there. I think a bit too early for 1911. But, I do see where you are going with this. Remove ruffles, lengthen, loosen and widen the coat for more of 1911 fall dress something like this maybe: http://www.korthalsgriffonclub.co.uk/uploads/image/earlydays%20group%20of%20owners%201911.jpg I like it. Thank you for reminding me of one of my favorite periods. I have been asked to make that costume for reenactment in the Netherlands during the 1sth world war. And I wonder if that dress is the right period. http://www.naaipatronen.nl/afb/swb/B4954.jpg --- End of Original Message --- ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
Re: [h-cost] Browned lace Edwardian? Collars
Oh, my! Wanda! Thank you so very much for sharing that incredible family story. How wonderful of you to make sure it continues. -Original Message- From: h-costume-boun...@indra.com [mailto:h-costume-boun...@indra.com] On Behalf Of Wanda Pease Sent: Saturday, March 07, 2009 2:01 AM To: Historical Costume Subject: [h-cost] Browned lace Edwardian? Collars I just opened a box of my mother's which must have been put away by her mother not long after she married in 1900. It has several lace neck pieces. There are collars, both stand up and smooth around the neckline, one gorgeous one that is a high neck with points across the shoulders and one down the front. Two that are attached to dickies/partlets and must be to fill in the front of a deep V neck. --- End of Original Message --- ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
[h-cost] Yes, beware Wife Swap
Hello all, Good idea to stay clear of Wife Swap. I'm on a local SCA (Medieval) list and ABC tried to find takers last year or so for I guess another angle on the SCA. After being told no, ABC tried to contact others by using different names and reasons for the contacts. Everyone on the list was warned about ABC and advised to avoid even speaking with anyone relating to ABC or broadcast production. Good luck, Sonja ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
[h-cost] Bra fitting
Don't give-up looking for that FIT. It's out there or at least will be soon. I would like to say that bra technology today has helped me. I had a lumpectomy eight years ago which cost me nearly half of what I had and went from looking like an early Rubin's to a Picasso. My right is a 36D when measured the standard way; can't guess what the left is ha ha. The Victoria's Secret IPEX (and one Body style) fits wonderfully. I have tried several styles, shapes, brands, and even most of VS. Something about the IPEX comfy stretch and coverage. I will say that I have chosen not to reconstruct and you can tell the lopsided difference if really looking. However, for the most part it feels great, helps me look good, and even boosts my confidence. The one draw back is price. I got the VS card for the coupons and special offers thus making the price about or less what I would spend for almost any other brand. Good luck to the rest of you. -- Original Message --- Date: Mon, 1 Oct 2007 10:50:53 -0400 From: Brangwyne Subject: Re: [h-cost] Increasing bra sizes (long) To: Historical Costume Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset=iso-8859-1; reply-type=response I'm currently trying to figure out how to build my own...I have a full cup size difference--left is a dd and right is a d. And normal bands just roll up on me, straps are too short...*sigh* so my bras either ride up the back, fall off my shoulders or curl up in front and I fall out the bottom. And I started out a 36B -- until kids. Starr * --- End of Original Message --- ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
[h-cost] Re: New Orleans
The Mardi Gras Museum is good bet. The Backstreet Cultural Museum (near the Quarter) has the largest collection of Mardi Gras Indian costumes. It also includes history of jazz funerals and other New Orleans traditions. The Presbytere in Jackson Square has good historic Mardi Gras costumes. The Voodoo Museum is up...so is the Haunted History Tour that departs from one of my favorite spots Rev. Zombie's Voodoo Shop. Great stuff. You can also find antique shops around the French Quarter that sell real antique clothing. I am sorry to say that the French Market is still getting back to pre-disaster days. I stopped in a few months back and only about a third of the place was running. However, work was in progress at the time. You are sure to have a wonderful visit, but please remember to be aware and be careful. S. Subject: [h-cost] Re: New Orleans To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I second the Mardi Gras Museum. Also fascinating, if not directly costume-related, is the Voodoo Museum (assuming it's still there after the storm). Sandy Subject: [h-cost] New Orleans museums I'm going to be in New Orleans for a conference next week. I've got one full day and some scattered time for sight seeing. Anyone recommend anything as a must-see for a costume junky? Thanks Beth ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume

[h-cost] Elastic
Does anyone know when elastic was first used in clothing and how? I believe Thomas Hancock developed elastic for gloves in the early 1800s and did a separate patent for the machine to make the elastic in the 1830s.
