[h-cost] wax orange blossoms

2007-10-31 Thread Terri
I am in the process of doing my niece's wedding gown circa 1898. I was
fortunate enough to see a vintage headwreath for a wedding ensemble and the
blossoms referred to are actually little replica orange blossoms moulded in
wax ,hand painted and I believe they had some sort of shellac over the wax
since it had browned a bit and was cracked. Hope that helps.

[h-cost] what's on the dress form

2007-10-05 Thread Terri
Right now, I have on my dress form the toile for my niece's wedding dress.
It will be silk duchess satin modeled off of the Paulina Astor portrait at
the Huntington Library with the decorative elements of a Charles F. Worth
gown. I have already produced 5 Belle Epoch silk taffeta blouses (used up
20 years of lace bit collection), 6 petticoats of heavy silk Organza ( a
delight to sew with) , one over embroidered silk organza wedding veil beaded
and one silk satin Dore corset (never again). I have 5 walking skirts, 5
Eaton Jackets, the wedding dress and the going away picture hat left to do
by June. And everyone in the wedding party, except myself is 1,300 miles
awayLord help me!!

[h-cost] Brass Rings

2007-05-24 Thread Terri Hirling

I get my brass (lacing) rings from Textol Drapery. I'm not sure you can
beat a bag of 1000 rings for $12.00. That should be enough lacing rings to
last a lifetime. The only problem is your order has to be at
least $35.00. When I ordered mine a couple of years ago they were $19 or
$20/bag and I believe the order amount had to be $25 or $30 so I just
order pillow form.

[h-cost] looking for embroidery chart

2007-03-15 Thread Terri
Several years ago, I downloaded the embroidery chart for the Bess of
Hardwick red work chemise embroidery. Recently I pulled the disk out and
found it was corrupted. I went back and searched all the internet sites and
could not find it again. I have been told that the particular site that had
it is no longer extant. Can anyone out there help me?
Thanks!

[h-cost] Men' Flemish Garb

2006-08-13 Thread Terri Hirling

Greetings to the list from a lurker. My husband is in the process of making
mid-16th century Flemish garb and has the following questions he's asked me
to post to the list.

1) In Breughel The Peasant's Wedding, (
http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/bruegel/wedding.jpg) the shirt tails of
the fellows in the red doublets are out and the point holes are empty
(difficult to see in the above link). Still the laces can be seen hanging
below the shirt. Did the shirt also have point holes to which the tights
were fastened?

2) Are sleeve seams under the arm? That's the way they appear to me. Or
down the back?

3) Was the usual peasant's jerkin cut short? If longer, how much longer
(from the waist)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Baroness Isabeau

[h-cost] RE: 1898-1900 fashion

2005-08-25 Thread Terri

My niece just announced her impending marriage and I am in charge of the
wedding ensemble. She is interested in modeling it on the John singer
Sargent painting of Pauline Astor at the Huntington Library. Can any of you
recommend any sites on the net for research? Hair, shoes, both sex fashion,
customs etc?

Thanks

Terri Casey
