And the
fabric turned bright pink when ironed, and cooled to its original blue.

Ah synthetic changeable taffeta!
But research for this is very easy to come by. I did a show that took place in
1957 and in the magazine section of the library there was so much research I
got overwhelmed! I mean, I looked at a couple of years earlier too, and just
from fashion/ teen magazines I could see that in 1957 the waist, where the full
skirts were gathered on, dropped about 2" below the natural waist. This detail
was gone by 1959!
So check out mags in your local library and you will have so much research you
won't know what to do with it! I'm sure, some spring editions will have whole
sections of prom dresses.

I remember 1958 blue as being almost a "powder" blue with lavender
highlights when seen at an angle. Quite a lovely subtle color. And the
fabric turned bright pink when ironed, and cooled to its original blue.

Thru bottom would show only is it was either the same color as the
rest of the gown ^i.e. Pale blue satin scaled skirt with a pale blue
under skirt that mmaybe peaked out of the scallops and maybe but
not always blue Tue rushing somewhere else like in a cassette ay the
waist or shoulder. My cousins was like this only butter yellow and
she graduated in 1958

Could anyone tell me what tyoe of decoration would be on a 1958 prom gown? I
usually don't do this costume era and i'm not sure what would be acceptable.
Also, would the under slip ever show on the bottom? One of the women wearing
the dress would like the bottom(I believe its netting) to show. Thank you
Lynn

Strapless? Small spegetti cord, or self shoulder straps, gathered to about
2/3"..."'usually snapped on for ease of removal..for an option. Self fabric
trim using bows, roses Other fabric flowers...one Elizabeth Taylor gown
appliqued the whole bodice with daiseys (I think) Sprinkles of sequins , tiers
of ruffles (tulle) or organza.. The tulle ruffle at th bottom would have been
attached to the hem of the dress."Dipping prtticosts (in my crowd) would have
been in poor taste (too long, rolled up and slipping.) Appliques of rattail in
geometric shapes. American in Paris, Daddy Longlegs are two films that might
give you some ideas.
