Re: [h-cost] custom made brocades
I'm terribly interested, but I probably won't be able to afford it until fall/winter. I'd be happy to design several dozen patterns that I want as soon as I have a speck of spare time, though! =} -E House, who just spent her fabric budget for the year on the most recent-but-one Adobe software suite, and therefore will have no spare time when it arrives in the mail tomorrow hurryhurryhurryhurry... Re: [h-cost] custom made brocades
I realized I made a mistake when typing the prices!!! Actually the price for creating a pattern is much lower - $10 is not per one square centimeter, but per 1 x 1 cm. So a 5x5 pattern would cost 5*$10 = $50. If the pattern is a rectangle, you take it as if it were a square by using the longer side (ex. pattern 6x8cm is regarded as a 8x8rectangle = 8*$10 = $80). The problem was communication between our company and the manufacturer in China, who only speaks Chinese, so that's why the information was so blurred. When I was in London last month, I visited Watts Co. in Westminster. They mostly do ecclesiastical accoutrements and they had fabulous brocade. I even got to see real cloth of gold (830 pounds per metre)!!! They do have a VERY good facsimile for a mere 83 pounds per metre and they will do mail order. I picked up a couple of bags of off-cuts so that I had some samples. Re: [h-cost] custom made brocades
So we are looking at roughly $24 per yard or $32 per yard? And you are paying $10 per .4 inches (or square inches?) for pattern design? De -Original Message- Speaking about custom design fabrics, I thought folks here may be interested in custom made brocade fabrics. Our company www.sartor.cz sells hiqh quality, tigtly woven brocades from China, mostly 50% silk brocades. We also offer making a brocade according to your wishes - your choice of pattern, colour and fiber. The offer's quite new, so we didn't yet manage to put it on the website (which has an unfinished English version, pardon me for that, we're currently working on it). The rules are as follows: Minimum order: 15 - 30 metres (15 if the fabric is suitable for our shop, 30 if we don't want to participate in the order) Price: pattermanikg fee: 10$ per cm**2 (you pay for the size of one pattern that is to be repeated on the fabric.) silk + rayon brocades: $24/metre 100% silk brocades: $32/metre Shipping: depends on the amount of fabric you order, the more you order, the cheaper the shipping. I thought this might be a good chance for people who want 100% accuracy in recreating historical costume. Let me know what do you think about it - or if you know any better orders, it is always good to know. Re: [h-cost] custom made brocades
It depends on the material, if you want 100% silk, you pay $32 per yard (actually per more than yard, one meter is a bit more) and if you want half silk half rayon, you pay $24 per yard. Half silk half rayon means warp is silk and weft is rayon. Yes, it is $10 per 0.4 square inches. You only pay for the size of the design that will be repeated on the fabric, such as here: http://www.sartor.cz/gallery/pattern.jpg In this case you'd pay for 3*7 inches = 21 = $525. This would be a very large pattern, so the cost will be high. The smaller the pattern, the lower the price.
