Re: [h-cost] lifetime antique/vintage costume dispersement

2007-04-17 Thread LLOYD MITCHELL
Fran, I have just returned from the Auction hall. After telling me that the
first day things would not be on line to see, I have just spent the last 7
hours photographing a goodly number of clothing that will be offered on the
28th. My instructions were to select some of the quality pieces that would
be representative of the offerings for Day One. So, done!

I hope you were able to bring up a picture listing of some of the
assessories that will be featured on the 28th.

Cheers, kathleen

2007-04-15 Thread LLOYD MITCHELL
Fran, I just re-read your question and the awnser is No. Alas. the first
day sale will be a ton of jewelry ( Not mine), the remainder of my hats (not
included in the catalogue; probably about 50/75), books related to
fashion/costuming (my contrib to this catagory are movie/theater and a few
collection guides). Also probably about 500 pieces of vintage clothing
(1940s/90s), and my purses of leather, crochet, mesh, and beading; a few
compacts and pill boxes; shoes (19thC-20thC). There are also other
consiners with hats, purses, and other stuff related to fashion.

The catalogue of 300 plus lots comprises about 1000 pieces. I saved a few
of the dresses and gowns that fit Me, also several of my best hats which I
wear on many occasions, and most of my significant lace collection.

Yesterday I put together two dolls using some of my recent e-Bay purchases.
One is a Gwenivere designed in the early 1960s; the other is a gorgeous Bru
repro with red hair. I used the Seeley body pattern this time and have your
books at the ready for the wardrobe. I have found that your pattern shapes
as scaled can be used directly for dolls of the 18 scale. So, let my new
career begin!

After 40? years of collecting and caring for a beloved costume collection, I
am having a Last Roundup show that can be seen online at 3riversauction.com
. This is the first time ever that I have seen all my costumes and
assessories of antiquity at the same place and same time! It has been a
show of over three months preparation; learning on both sides for the staff
and myself. I calculate that about one fourth of the items on display are
80 years or older (which means a lot of hooks and eyes and snaps); this was
a foreigh adventure for the photo crew!

Any way, I hope you might be curious to see some of the examples I have
introduced from time to time in our various discussions. I am merely
loosing the bulk of all this finery in exchange for a virtual collection!
And this is pretty exciting to me.

Now, I will gain hours to continue Historical costume for the Eighteenth and
Nineteenth Centuries...scaled for customers of the Human sort, as well as in
miniature. Looking forward to hours of leisure!

This whole experience of getting everything together for such a Swan's Song
has been very exciting. I have Never seen all my wonderaful collection in
one place at the same time. I marvel at the colors and textures and
workmanship of the span of history captured in Fashion that has been my joy
and priviledge to garner and conserve.

I am not yet decided to attend either day. Several have suggested I would
not really enjoy the final parting...or that I might consider picking up my
toys and go home! I am concerned about Who might aquire some of the
clothing, especially the antique; much of this belongs in a museum
setting...especially one that would make the relics available for study of
fiber and technique of construction.

Thank you for the sentiments. Be sure and spread the word forConservation
of antique and vintage fashion.
