But opening a Facebook so that people can announce that they belong to it, could be a piece of advertisement. It should indeed only give a short description about what Haifux is, and point to the site. If events are announced there, someone may get the impression it's a reliable source. That sounds as a good idea, and I support Eli and Oron's point of view (I personally do not have facebook account). If somebody would be willing to open such a group, with a bit of information on haifux + links to haifux that would be nice. Note that hiafux has a google calendar, which gives you RSS capabilities AFAIK, so as long as you can sync it with the calendar - you're fine (the calendar and the website are usually updated with 10 minutes difference). As for what Zvi suggested - for that we need to have a backlog of lectures, where we know in advance the lectures two/three weeks in advance. Recently, this is not the case, and our schedule is usually empty. 2008/9/5 Eli Billauer [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Completely agreed. I would take it even further: No events should ever be announced there. This is the problem: people would _expect_ events to be posted there. Suppose a hypothetical Udi finds haifux on facebook. He signs up. Now, he expects all his info to come down that channel. What?!?, thinks Udi, I now have to go to another _website_ for info on this facebook group?!? wtf?!? and now he thinks bad of haifux. Multiply this by all the linkedins and mysplats and it will be a disaster. -- Dotan Cohen http://what-is-what.com http://gibberish.co.il א-ב-ג-ד-ה-ו-ז-ח-ט-י-ך-כ-ל-ם-מ-ן-נ-ס-ע-ף-פ-ץ-צ-ק-ר-ש-ת ä-ö-ü-ß-Ä-Ö-Ü ___ Haifux mailing list Haifux@haifux.org http://hamakor.org.il/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/haifux

Exactly, so only if you can make sure that the data is updated in all places simultaneously put it. Otherwise, put a note saying we're sorry but due to frequent change of schedule, the best place for updates is www.haifux.org or RSSing from ... [Haifux] [HAIFUX Lecture] The Ruby programming language by Ohad Lutzky
Next Monday, 8th of September, at 18:30, haifux is about to meet and hear Ohad Lutzky's talk about The Ruby programming language Ruby is a modern, elegant programming language. It can be described as dynamic and object-oriented. Others call it a scripting language. It has recently become quite popular, thanks to the Ruby on Rails web development kit. In this lecture I will present the language and try to show some of the neat things about it. A background in programming (and preferably some knowledge of object-oriented programming) will be required for this lecture. == Before the talk, a short discussion (10 minutes tops!) of how, when, and if to hold W2L series will take place. It'll start exactly on 18:30. All comments and views are welcome. == We meet in Taub building, room 6. For instructions see: http://www.haifux.org/where.html Attendance is free, and you are all invited! == We are always interested in hearing your talks and ideas. If you wish to give a talk, hold a discussion, or just plan some event haifux might be interested in, please contact us at [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- Orr Dunkelman, [EMAIL PROTECTED] a scientific man ought to have no wishes, no affections, -- a mere heart of stone - Charles Darwin.
