[Haifux] videos

2012-01-07 Thread Lior Kaplan
Hi Guys,

Hamakor have recently opened a youtube video channel, and I thought this
might be a good way to upload and publicize the lectures done in Haifux
(there's no length limitation ,opposed to private accounts). We've started
to do the same for the lecture from August Penguin.

Thanks,

Kaplan

So... is anybody planning a party? Will there be cake?

In fifteen days it will be Software Freedom Day.
 http://softwarefreedomday.org/

Software Freedom Day (SFD) was initiated by a group of FOSS believers, *Matt
Oquist*, *Henrik Omma* and *Phil Harper* with the idea of distributing *The
 OpenCD* http://www.theopendisc.com/ to everyone.
 - The idea of SFD is for everyone without a vested interest in proprietary
software to unite and educate the world about the ideals of Software Freedom
and the practical benefits of Free Software.

Re: [Haifux] Public Domain Day event - January 5th, HaifaU

2011-01-03 Thread Lior Kaplan
Hi Orna,

I have to rollups, and might be able to bring one (I'm coming with public
transportation and need to check I could carry this all the way).

Presenting 0AD will be nice since it has CC licensed graphics.

See you Wednesday.

 Hi all,
I will present Haifux and FOSS for 10 minutes at the Public Domain day (day
after tomorrow). Nobody is presenting anything else which is software
related. We can get a table and set up a booth for the free time after the
 microphone presentations.
The question is - what would we like to do with it, and who volunteers to
 man the booth. Suggestions:

Flyers about Haifux like we did for the orientation day
A laptop with Linux, so people can see Linux on a desktop
A laptop with Linux installed with kids games
 A laptop with 0AD
Hamakor rolls (the standing posters) with the Gnu and Tux, that Omer Keshet
designed for August Penguin (who has those? Lior - maybe you can get them?)

Suggestions and volunteers are welcome (note - there will be free food and
 beverages...)

 Hello All,

Creative Commons Israel (specifically, Dalit Ken-Dror) is organizing an

 We are all invited!

Re: [Haifux] Idea: Welcome to Open Source instead of Welcome to Linux this year

 Hi all!

When talking with someone a few days ago, I had a moment of Serendipity (see:
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serendipity ). Why don't we do a Welcome-to-
FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) this year instead of Welcome-to-Linux?

I don't think people will need our help to enter themselves to free
software on Windows, while they do need our help to get around in
Linux.

Giving them recommendations on free software for windows is something
we can do on our website, and don't need actual lectures.

[Haifux] Re: [HAIFUX LECTURE] The Ben-Yehuda Project by Asaf Bartov

2006-12-17 Thread Lior Kaplan
Hi,

As I'm not a member of Haifux (sorry, I don't live in the area). And I
always get these announcements.

I have a problem with that, and the real issue is they come too close to
the lecture date (e.g. tomorrow). This doesn't give me any space for
arranging a visit to Haifa to hear the lecture.

Could you please try to inform people outside of Haifux in advance? (:

Thanks

  The Ben Yehuda Project

Project Ben-Yehuda aims to make accessible the classics of Hebrew
literature (poetry and prose at first, and then essays etc.) to the
reader of Hebrew. For that purpose, the literary works are converted to
a format that is readable and searchable on the Internet. The project is
intended to be of use for both amateurs and scholars of literature. It
is inspired by the parallel English project started by Professor Michael
 S. Hart (which has recently started bringing texts in other languages as
 well) called Project Gutenberg.

The Lecture would cover the aims of the project as well as the techincal
problems the Ben Yehuda have to deal with (e.g., lack of a free OCR in
 Hebrew that supports diacritics).

We meet in Taub building, room 3. For instructions see:
