Subject: Talk in Haifa -- please pass the word.

My speech will take place at Baladna Youth Club on Thrusday 21st July
at 5pm. Here's the announcement. Could you please spread the word?

Copyright versus Community
in the Age of the Computer Networks.

   Copyright developed in the age of the printing press, and was
designed to fit with the system of centralized copying imposed by the
printing press. But the copyright system does not fit well with
computer networks, and only draconian punishments can enforce it. The
global corporations that profit from copyright are lobbying for
draconian punishments, and to increase their copyright powers, while
suppressing public access to technology. But if we seriously hope to
serve the only legitimate purpose of copyright--to promote progress,
for the benefit of the public--then we must make changes in the other
direction.

What: A talk by Richard Stallman sponsored by the Youth Group for BDS
(Boycott, Divestment and
Sanctions)

Where: the Baladna Youth Club, Zion Street 3-A
When: July 21st at 5pm (sharp).

Richard Stallman launched the free software movement in 1983 and
started the development of the GNU operating system (see www.gnu.org
 ) in 1984. GNU is free software: everyone
has the freedom to copy it and redistribute it, as well as to make
changes either large or small. The GNU/Linux system, basically the GNU
operating system with Linux added, is used on tens of millions of
computers today. Stallman has received the ACM Grace Hopper Award, a
MacArthur Foundation fellowship, the Electronic Frontier Foundation's
Pioneer Award, and the the Takeda Award for Social/Economic
Betterment, as well as several honorary doctorates.

The organizers of the event would like it to be known that they are in
full support of the rights of Palestinians. In particular, the
organizers support the call for boycott of complicit Israeli
institutions. Richard Stallman is following the boycott during this
trip out of respect for the Palestinian hosts who invited him to the
region.

Also specifying the entrance gate (West <-> East) is needed.
Ideally, it would be nice to have a '1-time-permit reference Id'
that security would provide and could be emailed to the driver.

2010-03-01 Thread Yotam Medini
Hello Dotan,

Unfortunately, I could not attend the Drupal talks.

But last time, with the VOIP talk, as you may have remembered
I asked you to arrange for a 'permission' to my car.
But when I arrived, at the south-east gate (from Yagur-Nesher)
the guards looked at they lists, but said they did not see
either my car-license-# nor my name.

After a few minutes, they let me enter with my car anyway.

Re: [Haifux] Intermingled code and declarations and gcc

2009-09-17 Thread Yotam Medini יותם מדיני
File: gcc-4.2.info, Node: Variable Length, Next: Empty Structures, Prev:
Zero Length,  Up: C Extensions

5.14 Arrays of Variable Length
==

Variable-length automatic arrays are allowed in ISO C99, and as an
extension GCC accepts them in C89 mode and in C++. (However, GCC's
implementation of variable-length arrays does not yet conform in detail
to the ISO C99 standard.) These arrays are declared like any other
automatic arrays, but with a length that is not a constant expression.
The storage is allocated at the point of declaration and deallocated
when the brace-level is exited. For example:

 FILE *
 concat_fopen (char *s1, char *s2, char *mode)
 {
   char str[strlen (s1) + strlen (s2) + 1];
   strcpy (str, s1);
   strcat (str, s2);
   return fopen (str, mode);
 }

 Jumping or breaking out of the scope of the array name deallocates the
storage. Jumping into the scope is not allowed; you get an error
message for it.

 You can use the function `alloca' to get an effect much like
variable-length arrays. The function `alloca' is available in many
other C implementations (but not in all). On the other hand,
variable-length arrays are more elegant.

 There are other differences between these two methods. Space allocated
with `alloca' exists until the containing _function_ returns. The
space for a variable-length array is deallocated as soon as the array
name's scope ends. (If you use both variable-length arrays and
`alloca' in the same function, deallocation of a variable-length array
will also deallocate anything more recently allocated with `alloca'.)

 You can also use variable-length arrays as arguments to functions:

 struct entry
 tester (int len, char data[len][len])
 {
   /* ... */
 }

 The length of an array is computed once when the storage is allocated
and is remembered for the scope of the array in case you access it with
`sizeof'.

 If you want to pass the array first and the length afterward, you can
use a forward declaration in the parameter list--another GNU extension.

 struct entry
 tester (int len; char data[len][len], int len)
 {
   /* ... */
 }

 The `int len' before the semicolon is a "parameter forward
declaration", and it serves the purpose of making the name `len' known
when the declaration of `data' is parsed.

 You can write any number of such parameter forward declarations in the
parameter list. They can be separated by commas or semicolons, but the
last one must end with a semicolon, which is followed by the "real"
parameter declarations. Each forward declaration must match a "real"
declaration in parameter name and data type. ISO C99 does not support
parameter forward declarations.
