I hate all printers - they are the only piece of technology that has
not gotten significantly better in 5 years - however I recently HAD to
buy a printer and was shocked at how easy the Kodak ESP 7250 was to
get workign in linux - it literally was 30 seconds - I was gobsmacked.

I have an oldish Samsung bw laser, but it was trivial to make work in linux.

Thanks Freaky.

They tried to sell me one of those in Comet but after Kodak took too
long to take digital photography seriously I have kept away from their
digital products. I am interested to hear your experience of this
printer.

The printer is mainly for my wife to use from 'Win 7' and a friend of
hers recommended an Epson SX425W so I bought one. I had trouble at
first getting it to work from Ubuntu 10.04 as the correct driver was
not listed in the Printer Setup. However after I downloaded one from
[1] it now works. It is too early to say how well as this was late
last night.

I expect Lisi could use this without the /eng/ part? (English translation)

[Hampshire] Linux printer recommendations.

2011-12-10 Thread Clive Woodfine
My HP Photosmart 3300 All-in-One series has given up with Ink system
failure warning error code oxc18a0401. I have searched for this but
none of the solutions have worked. The printer is quite old so it is
time for a new one. My requirement is for wireless, Photocopying,
reasonable Photo printing and running costs. When I look at the
manufacturers compatible with Linux each seems to make hundreds so
recommendations would be greatly welcomed.

Thanks in advance,

Clive

I'm rather pleased with my HP Deskjet 1050 (all-in-one) - very cheap IMHO.
It replaced a very much dearer printer (and separate scanner) and worked
out of the box with Ubuntu 11.10.

Write off-list if you need more info.

How many photos / colour jobs do you print? I ask because I am of
the belief that a decent photo printer will be very expensive to
run, so if you do it rarely you would be better off printing at a
shop and get a cheap laser.

I have a HP laserjet MFP 1120n. Doesn't have wifi. I'm sure there's
an option that does. It was cheap and I'm very happy with it.

Cheers,
Andy

Many thanks for your prompt reply Andy. To answer your question, I
really only print a few and the more important ones I get printed at a
shop. I like to get some idea what they are going to look like on
paper so colour rendering should be reasonable.
