This morning on 4970 at 1612 Aerosmith music! Rag Doll then when I checked
later at 1624 it was Do the Funky Lady ? Has anyone ever heard rock on AIR?
I think I've gotten this before. Signal was quite poor. Woman talking but
 couldn't ID language.

Can you imagine some guy shelling out big cash for a cultural trip to India
with visions of sitar music and incense stepping off the plane and hearing
Aerosmith coming out some guys radio? I just can't picture Indians grooving
to Aerosmith. Please tell me this is not India! This just may be the writing

you have heard this programme from Shillong.

Re: [HCDX] Question about Minidisc recorders

So, I am still anxious to know if there are already good minidiscs which

Maybe the main problem is the receiver, or/and the cable, not only the
minidisc recorder.
I'm also using, when travelling, a Sony MZ-R700 with the old Grundig
Satellit 700, but there is no interference at all with the recorder sitting
20 cm from the receiver and even with the recorder connected to the mains
power supply.
To obtain an audible level of noise I have to place the MZ-R700 exactly on
the top cover of the receiver, 2 cm from the internal rod antenna and the
noise is audible in the LW band and in the lower part of the MW. Nothing on
SW using the internal built in aerial.
I have also tested the connection with two others old ( very old )
portables : a Satellit 600 and a venerable Zenith 3000 : same thing, using
a good homebrew cable ( well screened ) between the units I'm not able to
notice any noise.
I don't have any portable Sony receiver to put under test but I think that
a modern portable set lack a serious internal shielding and rf filtering.

Just to explain my personal experience, good luck!

Flavio

[HCDX] 6th Russian DX Contest

2003-12-09 Thread Dmitry Mezin
Hi all,

The 6th Russian DX Contest will take place in February 2004. Contrary to the
previous ones, now it's a really international event. The Contest consists
of two air-listening parts and a quiz.

First of all, I invite everyone to participate. Then, if anyone can provide
some prizes (of any value), that's heartly appreciated. I'd prefer any kinds
of DX literature (historical books, CD disks, fresh editions of DX
handbooks, subscriptions to payed DX services, etc.). If you have anything
to offer, please contact the organizer at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I'm planning to create a special contest page at dxsignal.info, putting
there links/banners of all persons/organizations who offer prizes for the
Contest. The first link/banner will point to the DSWCI club -- I have
already got an agreement with Anker Petersen on providing some good stuff
for good contest performers.

The rules are already online as a PDF file. See them at
http://dxsignal.info/read/RDXC_en.pdf. The document is also available from
my English homepage, http://dxsignal.info/indexen.htm.

All clubs and DX editors are free to distribute this news. Unfortunately, I
have no opportunity to translate the rules into other foreign languages.

73 see your contest logs,
Dmitry

Re: [HCDX] Question about Minidisc recorders

2003-12-09 Thread D K Onley

I do a lot of recording with the MD (mostly all Sony's). I have heard
the
same once or twice in the past. Seems to me that the noise came from the
LCD display, and then only if it was immediately adjacent the
receiver/antenna. A few cm away, and the problem disappeared. I use a 1m
patch chord, and have never suffered any interference that way.

I agree Walter

I have the Sharp MD-MT180 which I bought in Den Haag last year and I must
say that it is prone to the odd interference. I find that moving the leads
around and putting the mini-disk as far away from the receiver usually does
the trick.

I wouldn't be without mine. It is a great dx tool. In LP4 mode I can get 320
minutes of recording on a single disk. It sure beats the old C-90 cassette
tapes. My only complaint is that if you are on a dx trip, then you need to
recharge the battery on a regular basis. In the manual it says that you can
record for 12.5 hours on a standard battery, however I find it less than
that.

[HCDX] VT Merlin test transmission

2003-12-09 Thread halpc
Does anyone know the location(country) of the transmitter for the VT Merlin test
transmission on 9875 kHz? It has signed off on two mornings now at 1345 UTC, and I'm
guessing it may be in the Asia/Pacific area since it's received reasonably well here
in the south-central US just after dawn local time. The VT Merlin website mentioned in
the test transmission doesn't have a clue as to where the transmission originates.
