Re: [HCDX] Dxers Unlimited's weekend edition 24-25 Nov 2007
Radio Habana Cuba Dxers Unlimited Dxers Unlimited's mid week for 24-25 November 2007 By Arnie Coro radio amateur CO2KK Hi amigos radioaficionados this is the weekend edition of Dxers Unlimited. I am Arnie Coro, radio amateur CO2KK, and as always its my great pleasure to share with you about eighteen minutes devoted to the promotion and development of this wonderful hobby, described by sociologists that do research about the use of spare time as one of the most socially useful hobbies of them all The radio hobby is especially rewarding for people that are disabled in any way , and is listed among a favorite among persons with visual problems. One of my long time friends Jose Oliva, radio amateur CO2JO, was born blind, and he describes ham radio as an essential part of his life. Radio clubs should help disabled persons interested in becoming radio amateur operators, and the club's executives will soon find out that those new members usually become very active in club activities, helping to keep the club alive. Item two: Effective sunspot number continues to be zero or barely above zero form many, many days in a row..., and the A index moved down now after climbing up to 17 units this week due to the effects of a high speed solar wind impacting upon the Earth's magnetosphere... According to solar researchers there are no sunspots in sight at the back side of the Sun. and that means that solar activity will stay in the low to very low range , making the winter DX season particularly poor, as HF propagation conditions in general go, with a slightly better nightime situation for the frequency range from 2 to 10 megaHertz Item three: take a piece of 300 ohms TV ribbon twinlead , some household wire, a small piece of PVC half inch diameter pipe and a length of nylon rope... Spend about an hour or an hour and a half of your spare time, and you will end up with a very nice looking SUPER JAY 2 meter band antenna... It's ideal to take when you are travelling, as it has about 2 dB more gain than the classic TV 300 ohm ribbon JAY antenna that is so popular among 2 meter band operators... For those of you interested in obtaining the complete pictorial diagrams that show in great detail how to build this antenna for the two meters amateur band, I have the small dot gif computer file ready to be sent via e-mail, so,send your request to [EMAIL PROTECTED] , again, [EMAIL PROTECTED] And for those listeners without e-mail capability, just send a postcard to Arnie Coro, Radio Havana Cuba, Havana, Cuba and please include your postal address and in a line " request for 2 meters amateur band wire SUPER JAY antenna... Now standby for a few seconds, as Dxers Unlimited's weekendn edition will continue in just a few seconds, after this short musical interval.. I am Arnie Coro in Havana. .. Si amigos ! The winter Dx season of the northern hemisphere is now in progress , bringing in some nice DX on the 75 meters or 4 megahertz and the 49 meters or 6 megaHertz, international short wave broadcast bands... Late evening catches on the 49 meters band are now plentiful, especially past midnight your local time... The SINPO reports with one of my two vacuum tubes regenerative receivers for many stations on that band are now a full set of five fives, and that with a simple 3 meters or 10 feet long wire antenna... Just to complete the report I heard several nice DX stations at 4 o'clock in the morning local time here in Havana, that is 0900 hours UTC.. Item five: Listeners reports for Dxers Unlimited usually come with a few more goodies than the report itself... for example, imagine how do I feel when a listener tells me that she or he learned about amateur radio by picking up my show, and then adding that after taking the radio amateur license test she or he is enjoying such interesting two way contacts as contacting with the International Space Station crew, or working one of those really hard to catch DX expeditions ...And of course that many of the e-mails , post cards , letters and fax messages come with radio hobby related questions that I try to answer as soon as possible directly in the case of those coming via e-mail... Talking about answering questions, here is today's ASK ARNIE, la numero uno, the most popular section of Dxers Unlimited first question coming from Listeners Rudy in Germany and Felipe in Havana: they want to know if it is really worthwhile to build a VHF log periodic antenna , as both of them have the same problem... they are apartment dwellers and their apartment buildings rules and regulations don't allow the installation of external rooftop antennas... Both Rudy and Felipe are fortunate to have balconies, so they can place a small single antenna on a short mast in the balcony and use a short section of coaxial transmission line to the rig. I already gave Felipe the detailed instructions on how to build a 7 elements log pe

[HCDX] National TV and Radio Council of Azerbaijan Ceases Activity of Radio France
National TV and Radio Council of Azerbaijan Ceases Activity of Radio France 23.11.07 20:54 http://news.trend.az/index.shtml?show=news&newsid=1081971&lang=EN Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi/ On 23 November the National TV and Radio Council of Azerbaijan made a decision ceasing the broadcasting of Radio France and made a warning to ATV channel for breaking the law, the Council´s Chairman, Nushiravan Maherremli, reported to Trend on 23 November. The meeting of the Council on 23 November focused on the issue of Radio France and monitoring of the TV channels. According to Maherremli, the Council repeatedly warned Radio France of necessity of submitting documents for license. "Irrespective of our co- operation, they did not seriously approach this issue. The Council made a decision ceasing the broadcasting of the Radio France from 30 November," he said. National TV and Radio Council provided licenses to the US radio channel Azadlyg, Voice of America and British BBC. The Radio France functions in 105.0 FM frequency. This week the Council held the monitoring on ATV channel and found several breaches. According to Maherremli, ATV breaks Law on Advertisement and demonstrates facts adversely affecting the children. "ATV demonstrates erotic films. Preference is given to foreign films and music. Very little time is allocated for Azerbaijani films and music," Maherremli said. According to him, the breaks of ATV were presented to the attention of channel´s employee, Elchin Alibeyli. The results of the monitoring and decision will be announced after monitoring of TV channels by the end of this year. http://zlgr.multiply.com (raidio monitoring site plus audio clips ) http://www.worldisround.com/articles/302315/ (Litohoro) 321199/Tinos http://www.flickr.com/photos/zachgrpictures upload . on my main : www.geocities.com/zliangas -tty-px.html : test of various TTY programs -ethics.htm: greek ethics , days and institutions -frape.htm: the greek way of cofee !!! [HCDX] Digital Radio in FM-Band: World?s First DRM+ Broadcast in Germany
Digital Radio in FM-Band: World?s First DRM+ Broadcast in Germany 23.11.2007 http://www.infosat.lu/Meldungen/index.php?msgID=43479http://www.infosat.l u/Meldungen/index.php?msgID=43479 The first DRM+ field trial was launched on 20 November in Hanover and will run until the 29 February 2008. The DRM+ broadcasting trial is carried out by the DRM Associate Member German State Media Authority of Lower Saxony (NLM) and the DRM Associate Member Leibniz University of Hanover which one designed and built up the first DRM+ transmitter. The results of the DRM+ broadcast measurements will provide a basis for the new DRM+ system which standardization is planned in 2008. The DRM+ trial in Hanover is in line with the field trials scheduled in Germany on HD-Radio and DRM+. Both systems allow digital radio transmission in FM band. With reference to the final report from the DRM Associate Member University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern and the German State Media Authority of Rhineland-Palatinate (LMK) about the interference potential of DRM+ and HD-Radio, the German Federal Network Agency has settled licences for forthcoming field trials at an assigned time. The recent DRM+ field trial takes place in Hanover until 29 February 2008, the HD-Radio TM field trial occurs in Heidelberg from 1 December until 29 February 2008 and the DRM+ field trial happens in Kaiserslautern from 1 March to 31 May 2008. The final report is a first technical basis towards digitization of FM broadcast radio service. It is available in German under: http://www.fhkl.de/~drm. DRM+ is a narrow band digital radio system and could gradually replace the analogue FM radio in the future. DRM+ is appropriate for the transmission of local and sub-regional single programme offerings although it can obviously be extended to a bigger up to a nationwide coverage as a single-frequency network. http://zlgr.multiply.com (raidio monitoring site plus audio clips ) http://www.worldisround.com/articles/302315/ (Litohoro) 321199/Tinos http://www.flickr.com/photos/zachgrpictures upload . on my main : www.geocities.com/zliangas -tty-px.html : test of various TTY programs -ethics.htm: greek ethics , days and institutions -frape.htm: the greek way of cofee !!! [HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs November 23-24
** MEXICO. XEXQ is back! I`ve been keeping a close watch on 6045 since R. Universidad de San Luís Potosí disappeared almost 4 months ago. My last log of it was Aug 3, in DXLD 7-092. Finally, Nov 23 at 0625 I detected the tell-tale subaudible het mixing with KBS World Radio in Spanish via Sackville on 6045. After that went off at 0629, a hefty carrier of S9 +10 remained on frequency, and I kept listening until 0643, but absolutely no modulation heard. Retuned at 1352 and now there was classical music, good signal on 6045, Gaîté Parisienne. The can-can girls were celebrating with high kicks! Segués to more pop classics with no announcements, XEXQ`s usual style, until 1359, timecheck for 7:59, ID as R. Universidad, 25,000 watts on 1190 AM, no mention of SW. Then a string of government PSAs including one for transplants from the Secretaría de Salud, and another full ID for XEXQ including their phone number 826-1345, 8:02 TC and 1403 back to music. Still coming in well past 1452 at S9+10. It will be interesting to see in solstitial conditions how far it can penetrate north of the border during daytime, perhaps even at low noon. There is more news here, as their MW frequency used to be 1460 with 250 watts. Seems there has been a major upgrade to 1190 with 25 kW, along with a change in transmitter site. Note the night power is only 300 watts. John Callarman`s Mexican list of early 2007 has this entry: 1460 SAN LUIS POTOSÍ XEXQ "Radio Universidad*" San Luis Potosí. (250/250*) Universidad de San Luis Potosí, General Mariano Aristo 245, Colonia Histórico 78001 T: (444) 98-26-13-84 uaslp.mx/rtu http://www.uaslp.mx/Plantilla.aspx?padre=1912 N 22-09-08 W 100-58-39 (1,000/500)(+ N 22-10-19 W 100-57-48 25,000/300 on 1190) In this originally color-coded listing, the first part was from WRTH 2007, the long URL from SCT, and the last part about 1190 from Fred Cantú`s website. I haven`t found exactly what the plus symbol means in the lengthy introduxion to John`s list, but maybe it`s construction permit. Craig Healy`s Westlist, allegedly offline, came up in a Google search, the SLP state page as of Nov 2006, already showing XEXQ on 1190 with 25/0.3 kW. http://www.am-dx.com/lists/104stat.htm There is precious little on the UASLP website about the radio station. Searching on XEXQ, we got this item about a radio marathon when they were on 1460, date Thursday Sept 30, no year given, but has to be several years old since in 2007 that was a Sunday: http://www.uaslp.mx/Avisos.aspx?na=128 Oh, here are pages about this year`s Radio Marathon, which was on Sept 28, and as of then they were already on 1190, with 6045 also displayed. http://www.uaslp.mx/Plantilla.aspx?padre=1944 http://www.uaslp.mx/Plantilla.aspx?padre=1948 The page I had previously bookmarked showing their FM 88.5 program schedule, at least, is now blank: http://www.uaslp.mx/Plantilla.aspx?padre=1915 Both http://www.uaslp.mx/rtu and http://uaslp.mx/rtu no longer work. Digging further into the UASLP website, found this about the station: http://www.uaslp.mx/Plantilla.aspx?padre=3516 which says they are on the ``sixth shortwave band`` and also webcasting, but any further details? Of course not! Are there any further links from this page, such as to a webcast or a program schedule? No. It does show the person in charge, LCC. Leticia Zavala Pérez. Despite the abysmally poorly-designed website, we are delighted that XEXQ is reactivated on SW and hope it is back to stay this time. The signal seems better than before, and the frequency is relatively clear much of the time. Aoki shows hardly anything else on 6045 between 0630 and 1430 UT when India starts. It`s also of note that all three currently active Mexican SW stations are cultural ones, playing lots of classical music. (Excluding XERTA 4810, reported once recently but still not heard again here.), while zero US SW stations are cultural, let alone non-commercial and would not be caught dead playing classical. (One could hardly classify VOA as cultural these days.) Clear evidence that the United Mexican States are way ahead of the United American States. Rechecked at 1656 Nov 23, 6045 still with traces, but noise level too much for it. Next recheck not until 2002, when a very weak carrier could be detected, and could have been something else. At this hour not much else was evident on 49m, but stronger carriers from Cairo were in on 6250, 6290. 6045 was not audible around 0715 and 1445 checks Nov 24. Julián Santiago Díez de Bonilla has been in contact with the station, and found out the following: they have a new SW transmitter made in Chile capable of 1 kW, but initial tests were only 250 watts like the old one, and with the old antenna which is an inverted V, 12 meters on a side, oriented N/S. They planned to carry out more tests this weekend and hope to be on the air regularly next week. Schedule is 1300-0500 (tho I first heard their carrier at 0630) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** NEW ZE
