Dxers Unlimited
Dxers Unlimited's weekend edition for 19-20 April 2008

By Arnie Coro
radio amateur CO2KK

Hi amigos radioaficionados ... welcome to the weekend edition of your
favorite listener oriented radio hobby program... I am Arnie Coro, radio
amateur CO2KK your host here in Havana, and as always its my pleasure to
share with you about seventeen minutes of on the air and on the web
showtime ...
YES, you can listen to our live audio stream from www.rhc.cu
! again, our URL is www.rhc.cu
, in English from 05 to 07 UTC. and now here is item
one for today: May is just around the corner, and according to solar
scientists we are going to see a significant increase in Sporadic E
layer events during next month, also during June..Item two: 11760 khz
making it nicely to the Toronto , Canada area during the local afternoon
hours according to several very nice reports sent by listeners in that
part of Canada that are members of the Ontario DX Association . The e-
mail messages tell me that the 11760 kiloHertz transmitter has nice
audio and that the signal level is quite good there during the whole
afternoon Havana local time transmission. By the way , we are testing
11760 kiloHertz with another antenna from 0500 to 0700 UTC with our
regular English language broadcast, in parallel with 6060 and 9550
kiloHertz... Item three: Especially shielded, and of course much more
expensive computers , designed so that they will produce minimum radio
frequency interference , cost a lot of money, but they are required by
many professional users. For example, sophisticated command, control and
communications centers, like the Air Traffic Control systems, that are
so dependent nowadays on the use of computers, have found out that
standard run of the mill personal computers, the popular PCs are not
suited for the job, as they may interfere, sometimes at the most
critical moments, with the radios used to handle emergency traffic... More
about shielded computers, and how you can learn from what it's done to
reduce the radio frequency energy leaking from the machines , later in
today's edition of Dxers Unlmited : Item four, our popular ASK ARNIE
section of Dxers Unlimited will be answering today a question sent in by a
listener in Georgia, USA... Al, who is a high school science teacher,
wants to know what's the best frequency or frequencies to pick up planet
JUPITER radio signals, as he wants to show to his students how JUPITER
sounds can be heard on the radio... I will also answer another quest

Re: [HCDX] 5950, Yemen?

2008-04-20 Thread Glenn Hauser
Per Aoki, Yemen is on 5950 only at 0300-1400, while V. of Tigray Revolution,
Ethiopia runs 1100-1800 on Sat & Sun, 1700-2000 M-F. And in A-07, not yet
updated, VOR in Arabic daily at 18-19 via Moldova.

5950 R. Yemen 0300-1400 1234567 Arabic50 ND Sanaa
   YEM 04411E1522 YRTC
5950 VO Tigray Revolution 1100-1800 1.7 Tigrinya 100 ND Mekele

   ETH 03933E1332 RDT
5950 VO Tigray Revolution 1700-2000 .23456. Tigrinya 100 ND Mekele

   ETH 03933E1332 RDT
5950 VOICE OF RUSSIA 1800-1900 1234567 Arabic 500 180 Kishinev-
  Grigoriopol MDA 2924E4717 VOR a07

But strangely enough, none of the above are in HFCC. 5950 does not appear at
all in WRTH 2008 entry for Yemen.

The ADDX schedules by language, presumably with A-08 info, show VOR:
1800 1900 RUS Vo Russia 5950/MDA 7305 9360/TJK 11610 11985 12030
1800 1900 RUS Vo Russia 12065
So there are lots of parallels to check out. Let us know if it is VOR, Yemen,
or Ethiopia. What is your location, Max?

73, Glenn Hauser, OK

[HCDX] Good Shortwave Station List

2008-04-20 Thread James Niven
  Hi All,

I am looking for a good shortwave station listing along the same lines as ILG
was built on.
I know there is Pime Times, EIBI and then there is Aoki, is there others out
there?

I have done some searching on the web, but not much is coming up.

  Thanks

 WORLD OF RADIO 1404 SUMMARY:

*XEXQ, San Luis Potosí, México, reactivated on 6045 after a couple
months; very weak with classical music; best times to try for it
*XETRA, 690, Tijuana, reported to change calls to XEWW, formerly the
SW calls of XEW in Mexico City
*Cuba not only jams Radio Martí, but also harmless musical shows from
Voice of America; R. Habana Cuba deserves to be jammed as payback
*RHC collides with VOA at 0500-0700 UT on 6180, both in English; VOA
doubles power, so who will cry uncle first?
*NBC Radio, St. Vincent, moves again, to 700, ex-710, ex-705 kHz
*Venezuela names its new SW transmitter site under construction ---
what else? After Simón Bolívar; long term project planning 30
 `antennas`, whatever that means
*Venezuelan TV axes The Simpsons as bad for kids, replaces with
 Baywatch [bad for adults?]
*Chuck Bolland`s harmonic on 3200.13 recording analyzed: sounds to us
like Radio Minuto, to others like Radio María (Guatemala), or Radio
 Ilusión (Ecuador)
*HCJB Quichua service on 3220 heard at incredible strength in Florida
at 1000, despite being aimed straight up to minimize distant
 propagation
*Radio Universitaria, Cobija, Bolivia unheard lately on 4732, but
 Radio Tacana, 4741.48 widely reported
*Radio Nacional Argentina, heard on feeder frequencies 5835 or 5840
 early UT Sundays
*Radio Nacional Arcángel San Gabriel, Antarctica, reactivated, heard
in Europe on 15476 between 1900 and 2100; had been off all year
*Radio Africa, Bata, Equatorial Guinea, reactivated April 11 on 15190
after a long silence, only with American preachers, from 1700 past
2230; good signal in North America altho supposedly aimed at South
Africa. Does not ID between programs and final ID never mentions
Equatorial Guinea, but an address in Ghana [lasted only 7 days]
*The other SW transmitter at Bata, domestic service, had also just
been reactivated [and I left out the frequency: 5005]
*IRIN Radio has new broadcast via South Africa in Somali, 1730-1745 on
9665; also heard in Europe but some days of week Spain is also on
then, with imaginary German broadcast actually in Spanish
*Hargeysa, Somaliland, hard to ID for certain, but believed to be on
7120.37 around 1500-1700; Chad also on low side of frequency until
1600, and CNR-8 China in the way on 7120.0
*The media magazine you monitor with your mind, World of Radio 1404,
woradio at yahoo.com --- much more at http://www.worldofradio.org
*Thanks for financial support from Donna Kay Ring in Maryland who sent
a check in the mail to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702
*V. of Tigray Revolution, 6170, sometimes opens an hour early at 0256
 instead of 0355
*Sines, Portugal site has new clients such as Sudan Radio Service,
 17690, 1500-1600 daily, also 1600-1700 M-F,

if the Bolivian is actually on 6055.10 KHz, it is just that, that is where I
hear it best,
which turns out to be just poor to threshold. (Chuck Bolland, April 20,
2008)

Bolivia, 5952.46, Radio Pio Doce, (pres)1022-1040, At tune in, noted music
until 1024

when a two males comment in Spanish language. Comments continue until 1030
when a time tones are heard which could have been from someone else nearby.
At 1031 back to music. Signal was poor. (Chuck Bolland, April 20, 2008)
