Re: [HCDX] RTP: there is 'every reason' to suspend shortwave
Moral of story, when appealing to a broadcaster to remain on shortwave, use snail mail, sending an email proves to the broadcaster the listener can hear them via the internet. Paul - Original Message - From: "Zacharias Liangas " Sent: Saturday, September 03, 2011 10:30 PM Subject: [HCDX] RTP: there is 'every reason' to suspend shortwave RTP: there is 'every reason' to suspend shortwave http://www.southgatearc.org/news/september2011/every_reason_to_suspend_shortwave.ht m The chairman of the board of Ra'dio e Televisa~o de Portugal (RTP), Guilherme Costa, said on Tuesday that the company has 'every reason' to suspend the shortwave transmissions of RDP Internacional. Mr Costa, quoted by the Lusa news agency, said such a platform is obsolete from the technical point of view, is generally poor quality in terms of reception, and is expensive, adding that discussions about shortwave began within the organisation in May 2009. He said that RDP had received 190 messages on the suspension of shortwave broadcasts, and more than half came via email from people who can listen to broadcasts on the Internet. RTP announced in May that it would temporarily suspend the shortwave broadcasts of RDP Internacional from 1 June, citing the low number of listeners and the need to reduce costs.Standard rig : ICOM R75 / 2x16 V / m@h40 heads Sennheiser Please read and distribute this 15 year research article http://tinyurl.com/5vzg7e Please read my article on SINPO at http://tinyurl.com/yt7qjd http://zlgr.multiply.com (radio monitoring site plus audio clips ) MAIN SITE http://www.delicious.com/gr_greek1/@zach (all mypages !!) [HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs September 2-3, 2011
** ALBANIA. Webcast, Sept 3 at 0330, R. Tirana is indeed still announcing 13640 instead of 13735 for the English Mon-Sat at 1845 and 2000; 13640 with an interference problem was replaced months ago. Moot anyhow, no SW at all on the air currently (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** BRAZIL. 4885, Sept 3 at 0522, Brazilian music, poor vs noise level, CODAR. Probably R. Clube do Pará, traditionally one of the best 24h signals from Brazil, first time audible here in months. I lament my lack of DX logs below 5 MHz, as my line noise level is horrific; must get OG&E on the case, if they haven`t all been deployed to the east coast (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CHINA [and non]. Firedrake Sept 3, in the ChiCom noon hour: 16100, JBA at 0456, while CRI Kashgar VG and fluttery in Russian on 15445, 15665 After 1230: 7970, very poor at 1231 10300, very good at 1236 12600, good at 1238 13130, fair at 1239 13970, JBA at 1240 14400, JBA at 1241 16100, very poor at 1243 16980, JBA at 1242, slightly better than the 14 and 13 18180, JBA at 1244 Before 1400: 12025, JBA at 1352 under CNR1 jamming 12270, very good at 1352 12500, very good at 1351 12980, very good at 1351 13970, poor at 1350 13920, poor at 1350, weaker than 13970 15430, fair at 1344 mixed with noise, Chinese 1, very poor at 1344 16100, fair at 1347 17170, good at 1349 with flutter; none in the 18s, 14s (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** GUAM. 5765-USB, can`t trace AFN Sept 4 at 1226 avoiding as best I can WTWW 5755, nor several previous mornings. Is AFN off again? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** ITALY [non]. 15610, Sat Sept 3 at 1257 tune-in to M&W discussion in American English; IRRS via Tiganeshti, ROMANIA must have been turned on early with tail of something else, but 1258:40 cut to Aïda, 1300:10 quick IRRS sign-on ID, dead air, until, until --- 1300:55 KQED Radio ID, discussion about upcoming cultural events in the Bay Area, including Ensemble Paralelle with the opera Wozzeck; Exploratorium; a new play, etc. 1307 outro as ``The Do List`` with David Wiegand, San Francisco Chronicle; see http://www.kqed.org/radio/programs/thedolist/ However, nothing about Wozzeck now but we find by searching the KQED Events Calendar that Wozzeck was performing January 30, 2010, so apparently a very old podcast we are hearing. Followed by jazzed-up `Star Spangled Banner` but not to the extent of Jimi`s. Poor signal at outset with deep fades, but getting a little better. 1312.5, into discussion of several of the week`s ``under-reported news stories``; 1317 mentions program is `Between the Lines``; 1322 from Blair Mountain WV, to cellphone hazards; 1340 ending show, with 203 area code, originates in Connecticut, and website. Found this to be the August 19, 2011 edition: http://www.btlonline.org/2011/110819-btl.html but KQED is not listed as a station carrying it. Then PSAs and songs. (I break away for another Firedrake scan.) 1354 discussion of aging and Alzheimer`s with Susan Jacoby, author of `The New Old Age`` on `Listeners` Forum`. Cut off at 1358.5 for IRRS sign-off and WEWN ethereally heavenly sign-on QRM. So it pays to keep checking this hour of IRRS, as once again they have replaced Brother Scare with KQED or other noncommercial US public radio programming. Is it a satellite mixup? I looked for KQED in Lyngsat`s listing of free radio USA, not there. Maybe it involves instead mixed up web feeds to Milano and/or Tiganeshti (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MAURITANIA. 7245, Sept 3 at 0135, weak Arabish talk so IGIM continues 24-hours, post-Ramadan, why? [HCDX] The Shortwave Report 09/02/11 Listen Globally!
The Shortwave Report 09/02/11 Listen Globally! by Dan Roberts ( outfarpress [at] saber.net ) Thursday Sep 1st, 2011 5:14 PM A weekly 30 minute review of international news and opinion, recorded from a shortwave radio and the internet. With times, frequencies, and websites for listening at home. 3 files- HIGHEST QUALITY BROADCAST, regular broadcast, and slow-modem streaming. Free to rebroadcast. China Radio International, the Voice Of Russia, NHK World Radio Japan, Radio Deutsche-Welle, and Radio Havana Cuba. Dear Radio Friend, The latest Shortwave Report (September 2) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/shortwave.shtml in 3 forms- (new) HIGHEST QUALITY (128kb)(27MB), broadcast quality (16MB), and quickdownload or streaming form (6MB) (28:59) Links at page bottom (If you have access to Audioport there is a highest quality version posted up there {27MB} http://www.audioport.org/index.php?op=producer-info&uid=904&nav=&;) This week's show features stories from China Radio International, the Voice of Russia, NHK World Radio Japan, Radio Deutsche-Welle, and Radio Havana Cuba. >From CHINA- China has enacted a new income tax law which greatly reduces the >number of of citizens required to file. The Chinese government says that stabilizing consumer prices remains the top priority. China has an aircraft carrier, making it the last of the UN Permanent Security members to possess one. The Chinese government is trying to work out compensation for damages caused by the huge Conoco Philips oil spill in a north China bay. There are conflicting stories from two of the sons of Muammar Gaddafi. >From RUSSIA- With the war on Libya apparently winding down, it is easy for >NATO to feel triumphant. However many analysts differ on the success of the operation to oust Gaddafi. >From JAPAN- A Libyan rebel leader says that about 50,000 people have been >killed in the fighting since March. Then another section from the series on renewable energy sources that NHK ran 2 weeks ago. This one is on marine energy, including wave and tidal research in Europe. >From GERMANY-- The German government has decided not to restart the 8 nuclear >power plants shut down after Fukushima. Turkey and Israel are facing a showdown over last year's killing of 9 Turkish citizens on the flotilla to break the Israeli economic blockade on the Gaza Strip. >From CUBA- The Wikileaks website came under attack Tuesday after releasing >thousands of diplomatic cables. The Afghan government intentionally impeded peace talks between the US and the Taliban. The Pentagon's use of no-bid contracts has tripled in the past 10 years. The African Union Chief has accused Libyan rebels of treating all black Africans as mercenaries for Gaddafi- one third of Libya's population is black. The Socialist Party of Venezuela has called for unity, warning that some dissidents are calling for foreign intervention, like what has occurred in Libya. There is an article about the Shortwave Report by Cassandra Roos on line - http://www.campusprogress.org/soundvision/780/big-stories-shortwaves I was interviewed for an informative weekly radio show Mediageek, available at http://radio.mediageek.net All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer. NEW TIME SLOT on KZYX! This program will be aired on Sunday afternoon at 4pm (PDST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via < http://www.kzyx.org > There are several other streams that work better- < http://www.freakradio.org >Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am.(PDST) NEWLY CORRECTED!!! The Shortwave Report may be downloaded as a podcast from < feed://radio.indymedia.org/en/podcast?keys=shortwave++ I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
