Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 366 kHz, Feb 23 at 0710 UT, ND beacon EOK, which is 25 watts from Keokuk, Iowa; new one here; mixing with YMW and dash, 500 watts from Maniwaki, Quebec, heard often without EOK (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7615-USB, Feb 24 at 1525, Civil Air Patrol net with YL-sounding NCS; quick check-ins by Mockingbirds 50, 8 and 34, who are in Mississippi (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2022 monitoring: confirmed UT Monday February 24 at 0130 on WRMI 7780, S9 via indoor random wire during storm, but fadeout by 0145. Also confirmed UT Mon Feb 24 at 0230 on WRMI 7780, poor-fair via UTwente SDR, but no signal on // 9395; nor here nor on various SDRs to the SSE, NE or NW; yet 9455 is OK in New York, so I conclude 9395 is NOT on the air as it and 9455 are on exactly same azimuth 355. Yet by 0409, 9395 is S9+10 with TOMBS. WOR via WRN webcast also confirmed at 0230. Also confirmed UT Mon Feb 24 from 0400 on Area 51 webcast; WBCQ 5130 JBA at 0409 & 0427, now back on external longwire. [HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs February 23-24-25, 2020
** CUBA. 9538-9590, Feb 24 at 2220, range of splatter from filthy wall-of-noise jamming centered on 9565 vs Radio Martí. 9535 RHC barely escapes it. 9925-9980, Feb 24 at 2221, range of splatter from WON jamming centered on 9955 vs WRMI, i.e. against the Argentine historical media program `La Rosa de Tokio`, Monday being the only DOW that 9955 is in Spanish during this hour! NOT amicable. Always excessive and wasteful the DentroCuban Jamming Command. Probably jams every day at this hour, and many other unnecessary times: take that, RMI, for daring to emit any exiles! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** PERU. 5980, Feb 24 at 2328, JBA carrier from Radio Chaski vs Cuban pulse jamming against nothing else; until autocutoff at 2352:27.5*. Last check was Feb 18 until 2352:40*, 6 days ago and 12.5 seconds later, so averaging slightly over 2 seconds earlier per noctem. My first definite timing in latest cycle was until 2355:27.5* on November 26, 2019 --- That was 90 days ago, and exactly 3.0 minutes or 180.0 seconds later, making for a very neat exact 2.00 seconds long-term average and they have not reset the timer so far, as 2 seconds a day is hardly noticeable to them. Nor could there have been any power failure over three months, as that would surely have knocked askew this inexorable slippage; speaks well for Urubamba Electric (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TAIWAN [non]. 9490, Feb 25 at 0108, no signal from RTI`s alleged 4-night test in Spanish to S America at 0100-0130 via mystery site. It was supposed to start UT Feb 23 but not checked until now. There was a JBA signal in Chinese(?) until 0100* as RTI was already scheduled direct from Taiwan so more likely audible is CNR1 jamming. It would hardly make sense to try a mostly day-path on 9 MHz band to the other worldside. It goes off at 0100 sharp and nothing further detectable here, so I spot-check 9490 on numerous remotes starting with UTwente after confirming WOR at 0108 on 7780: Nothing there. Nor any of these until 0119: Nanning, Rockport, KFS, NSW, Tokyo, Pardinho, Florida, VE6JY, Bogota, RSA. Rockport and KFS do get some residual jamming. I think it`s safe to say the test is not on air tonight. Wolfgang Bueschel reached the same conclusion. He was getting it last night UT Feb 24, best signal via Sevilla SDR. His best guesses for site: Issoudun, Nauen or Moosbrunn, discounting Kostinbrod and Maiac (Bulgaria, Pridnestrovye) because their audio quality is not so good. Then wb and I both asked Jeff White, now at HFCC Malaysia, to confirm whether it`s WRMI via Issoudun. I had figured this was the obvious source since RMI/TDF was already registered 9490, but unused at 0100, rather Radio República not until *0200 as I recently monitored. Jeff replies to me: ``No, we have nothing to do with these RTI tests, and TDF knows nothing about them either.`` BTW, Aljazeera computes that as of Feb 23, Malaysia had 22 confirmed Coronavirus cases but 15 had recovered and been released. HFCC had been planned for China but had to be removed. A repeat of the Spanish test was supposed to be at 0300-0330 on 9500, but not heard then either by Bogotá, but a JBA carrier here UT Feb 25, probably CNR1 as scheduled. I don`t bother to check all the other remotes again. So the mystery remains: whence the tests, will they recur tomorrow, and/or become permanentized? If we do have another chance, TDOA should be invoked (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Feb 24 at 2305, 2327 and 2350 chex, NO signal from Voice of Turkey, English to North America. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. I also found no such signal Feb 23 at 2340, but Wolfgang Bueschel was hearing it at 2315-2323 in Europe and via remotes in eastern America. Maybe it went off early (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2022: Richard Langley, NB: ``Monitored WRMI Sunday Evening / Monday Morning (UT) 7780 kHz Schedule - From my recording last Sunday evening, 23-24 February UT: 2130 World of Radio (#2022) 0130 World of Radio (#2022) 0230 World of Radio (#2022)`` I tuned in 7290, IRRS via UTwente a bit late at 1902 Monday February 24 to find a VG signal from WOR which apparently started on time a minute or two earlier. Also confirmed UT Tue Feb 25 at 0100 on WRMI 7780: JBA here but good via UTwente at 0108 check. UNID LOCATION _ TEST RTI Spanish from TAIWAN nothing on 9490 kHz from 01.00 UT on Tuesday Febr 25. No test service program heard tonight. [HCDX] SoundEffects journal
Call for abstracts (articles): Special issue of the SoundEffects journal Theme: Sound and Listening Spaces Editors: Editors Birgitte Stougaard Pedersen and Therese Wiwe Vilmar https://www.soundeffects.dk/announcement/view/786 Since what has popularly been called the spatial turn in the second half of the 20th century, space has been considered a social, political and cultural construct, as e.g. Henri Lefebvre points out in The Production of Space (1974). This shift in the notion of space has also affected the perception of artworks taking place in space. With sound studies and soundscape theories (e.g. Murray Schafer), the temporal artform of music has mutated into the spatial medium of sound. Whether we listen to the sounds of natural or urban environments, online playlists, audio books, curated sound art, muzac, or experience the tingling sensations of ASMR, we find ourselves as listeners positioned in an affective space filled with sound and at the same time created by sound – a social construct. These listening spaces are at the core of this issue of SoundEffects. The intersection of spaces and sounds is currently being renegotiated owing to the revolution of digital media, with sound spaces becoming even more fluid and increasingly mobile and portable. For instance, listening to one’s own exclusive playlist or a podcast when strolling through the park creates a personal listening space. Live concerts, soundscapes, and sound art are performative spaces that produce an atmosphere on their own terms, although they can also be transmitted and saved if necessary. The space of listening becomes a selective space that changes the immanent sounds of a specific place. This mobility of modern media, as well as a deeper concern for various aspects of listening (affective, sociological, political, cultural, phenomenological etc.), make it interesting to regard the experiences of sound and music as particular listening spaces. This special issue of SoundEffects focuses on the listening spaces that we enter, experience and create. We invite articles concerning the following subjects (this is not an exhaustive list): * The technology of listening * Mobile listening * The physical, social, political, phenomenological, affective, cultural, and technological aspects of listening spaces * Listening and places * The philosophy of music, sound and space * Sound as constructed listening space in learning environments, institutions, cities, sales etc. * The “live” space: performance and participation in listening spaces Important deadlines: Abstract deadline (300 words): 1 April 2020 Decision regarding the abstracts: 22 April 2020 Article deadline (subject to a positive review of the abstract): 1 August 2020 Published: December 2020 Please send your abstract to Therese Wiwe Vilmar: t...@cc.au.dk Direct link to the call: https://www.soundeffects.dk/announcement/view/786 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/ ___ THE INFORMATION IN THIS ARTICLE IS FREE. [HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs February 23-24, 2020
** CUBA. 9965, Feb 24 at 1513, pulse jamming vs nothing, old Radio República Costa Rica frequency, and also on 9955 now that WRMI has finished morning block; the latter also briefly jammed by continuous tones. Something`s always wrong at the DentroCuban Jamming Command (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MADAGASCAR. 11965, Feb 23 at 2050, jazz music to 2057* with no announcement, must have been APR via MWV English hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6924.9-AM, Feb 23 at 2351 unID pirate music JBA at S5-S6. A few other reports as unID as if on 6925, 2330-0004: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,63491.0.html In May 2017, Captain Morgan Shortwave was on this off-frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 12030, Mon Feb 24 at 1511, S4-S6 open carrier, presumably REE which on weekdays is supposed to start at 1600, weekends 1500. Beam to ME but this early, often better here off the back than 9690 to us off the front (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Feb 23 at 2340, VOT English to us is AWOL again. Also confirmed UT Mon Feb 24 at 0430 on WRMI 9955, VP under wall of noise jamming, but OK on webcast. F-G on the Bogotá KiwiSDR but not at all on the other one in Colombia. MUF reigns every time. On at full strength S9/+10, Feb 24 at 1517, gospel huxter in English about Genesis. So it`s erratic, why?
