[HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs November 11, 2022

2022-11-11 Thread Glenn Hauser via Hard-Core-DX
** CANADA. 2749-USB, Nov 11 at 0725 UT, two different stations, same
YL robovoice with marine weather in English, QRMing each other at same
level; sometimes a few seconds apart, othertimes not matching. My
first log of the season of Coast Guard broadcasts. Checking
https://www.dxinfocentre.com/mb.htm
this frequency applies only to Metarea 4, but nothing scheduled at
this hour, the closest being VCO Sydney NS, 550 watts from 0740z in
EE/FF. They do switch to French with a ``securité`` advisory, so maybe
a special transmission; and then both are gone at 0727*. The other
stations on frequency which are supposed to alternate at numerous
times rather than clashing! are VAR-9 at Yarmouth(Halifax), VCN at
Escoumins, and VCS-21 Halifax. This info may be outdated as top of
page is dated 2020-05-13. Nothing on the NL-area channel now,
2598-USB. Hepburn replies ``Most likely a warning broadcast on
receipt. William`` --- so I guess with such urgency they don`t care
whether they QRM each other or not --- but rather self-defeating. I
hope everyone survived (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 9330, Fri Nov 11 at 0716, dead air soon occupied by
Spy Numbers, so WBCQ/WLCR is off again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6060, Nov 11 at 0720, S7/S9 open carrier with hum, must be
lingering RHC, and on no other frequency. Something`s always wrong at
RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ITALY [non]. 7295, Fri Nov 11 at 1817, IRRS via Bulgaria with
`Radio Curious` interview about ``tapping my own phone``, in the spot
where WOR used to be; as heard via UTwente. Rather than fragment,
occupies full semihour until 1846 PSAs for SmokeyBear and COVIDmasks,
1847 Willie Nelson, ``I`ll Fly Away`` and more music. Here it is:
http://www.radiocurious.org/2022/11/04/ron-whitehead-sarah-elizabeth-beat-poets-of-kentucky-2
1854 birdcalls open `TUC Radio` which is bound to be chopped off
shortly, at 1857* but carrier and loudulation from CGTN Radio start on
7295 already at *1856; 1858 with US stock market info! (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** MALI. 15125, Nov 11 at 1616, S9/S8 with romantic song or hymn? but
in Chinese. By 1620 YL in Arabic. This is CRI Arabic via Bamako at
16-17, 100 kW at 85 degrees, to be followed at 17-18 by Swahili at 111
degrees. Yet it`s the SSOB comparable only to 15140 Cuba less
modulated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NEW ZEALAND. 13755, November 11 at 0713, JBA carrier no doubt the
new frequency of RNZP, ex-13730 which had interference problems, as
frequency manager Adrian Sainsbury had notified us a few hours before.
Unfortunately conditions are very bad tonight with nothing else on 13
MHz band, making this the OSOB and SSOB! I was hoping he could justify
going down to 11 MHz band which would be better for the extra N
American audience beyond. Website sked now:

06:59-12:58 13755 AM from 11 Nov Pacific Mon - Sun
08:59-12:58 13755 AM from 11 Nov NW Pacific Vanuatu Solomon Isl PNG
Mon - Fri

Thus on Mon-Fri only the last four hours are on a dual/split antenna,
both NNE and NW, so the signal may be weaker thisaway? HFCC azimuths
are 35 and 325 degrees. 13755 no doubt chosen as an open frequency,
however with considerable Asian adjacencies on 13750 & 13760 tho not
audible here, yet, anyway (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 25, KWTV-DT ``9``, CBS from OKC, UT Friday November 11
from 0430 UT is just fine direct to my antenna, fortunately, since
``Optimum`` ex-Suddenlink cable has replaced it with tone and color
bars, the 3/4 variety, with a floating white rectangle in the center!
Thus subscribers without antennas are deprived of Colbert, `Late Show`,
then the `Late2` show and beyond, still not restored by 0700 when we
quit; but back the next morning. No other OKC channels appeared to be
blocked on cable. What could explain this? And the floating rectangle?
And how could one calculate the value of such an outage to claim a
rebate? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 12030, Fri Nov 11 at 2315, token English from REE is
interviewing someone who is campaigning to Free the Dolphins from
captivity in aquaria and zoos - no excuse, they are not endangered and
such intelligent beings should not be encarcerated. At the end her
name sounds like Olivia Malo? or Mandel? I`m listening off the back of
the ME beam which is reaching Maryland SDR just fine. So is the NAm
frequency 9690 but there is heavy clicking QRM over it, like OTH
radar: see UNIDENTIFIED (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Nov 11 at 2330, VOT in `Feeling Supreme` with some
kind of advice; 2339 `Did You Know That`, something about Atatürk. VG
modulation this time and S9+30/40 into UTwente, but with some CCI from
understation, PBS Xinjiang, East Turkistan, land of imperialist ChiCom
genocide against Uyghurs and other Moslems. 2352 sign-off now has the
UTimes correctly. 2354 fragment of IS, and off* uncovering XJPBS
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2164 monitoring: confirmed first
broadcast, UT Friday November 11 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S9
