I have received an E-mail reply from Andrew Vitz, the state of MA
ornithologist, stating that, although166.380 mhz is used for some projects, MA
uses 434.000 mhz to track kestrels. Andrew says that each kestrel 's tag is
coded so that each can be recognized even though they are on the same
frequency. At any rate if you want to remember the song Bird is the Word by
the Trashmen, the video is on youtube. There is also a Simpsons' episode
featuring the song. Bill Smith, Douglas, MA

Please note and spread the word - for those not on a list where my almost-daily
all-band but mainly SW log reports appear -- or for those who are but find this
a more convenient archive, weekly merged roundups of all these reports in their
original form are posted early every UT Thursday via:

(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, Dec 6 at 1535, RHC music audio cutting out
intermittently // much weaker 15140; lyric ``no quiero`` repeating.
1538 ID inviting contacts to mus...@rhc.icrt.cu for `Sonido Cubano`
program. Had not noted such an email before rather than usual enet or
etecsa. On their website I cannot find any email address displayed.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MALDIVES [non]. 11620, Dec 6 at 1526, secular-sounding song,
S9/+20, 1529.5 very quick English saying you can now hear us at
vomkorea.com and off at 1530* sharp. It`s the mostly-Dhivehi service
which habitually puts in such a good signal here on the opposite
worldside of the target, from secret site believed probably to be
RBAustralia. I had not checked this 1500 broadcast for quite a while.
Website converts to https://vomkorea.com/en/ which implies in English,
but really mostly Korean, and no Maldives mentioned on homepage -
unless it`s in Korean! Internal site searching does lead to several
stories in English about it:
https://vomkorea.com/en/?s=maldives
It seems that Christians are persecuted, prosecuted there. Does VOMK/M
encourage them to stay underground or seek martyrdom? They should be
wary of anything with Martyrs in its name. This explains the situation:
https://vomkorea.com/en/2023/08/29/vomk-report-268/
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Dec 6 at 2322, token English from SNR confirmed,
S9+10/30 into Maryland SDR, but no time to listen. Still no podcast
for Dec 4 so presumably no show, but shortly could hear today`s Dec 6
that way (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [non]. 5960.000, Dec 6 at 2324, no signal from VOT into
UTwente, ceding the frequency to XJPBS in Chinese(?), from East
Turkistan, land of imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uyghurs and
other Moslems. As soon as I saw the exact frequency before hearing it,
I figured it could not be Turkey. Something`s erroneous at Emirler
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2219 monitoring: ``From: Richard
Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening
Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees.
Dear Glenn: Update, confirming WOR #2219, This time of year the
Christmas lights, QRN, WRMI:
9395, 0130, 0145 (45433), TV QRN, 0159, December 5 UTC 2023 [Tue]
9395, 0030, 0044 (45343), 0059, December 6 UTC 2023 [Wed]
(Lemke, Richard -AB) 73’s, Richard``

Confirmed UT Wednesday December 6 at 0054 the 0030 on WRMI 9395, S7/S9
into way offbeam UTwente.

Wed Dec 6 at 1504, I check 9955 to note whether WRMI be on the air or
not: indeed, is on air, with surprise airing of WOR 2219! Skedgrid
still shows `Frecuencia al Día` instead; so unknown whether a one-time
error or deliberate. WOR does appear on sked Thursday at 1500, need to
recheck as that seemed to have been canceled. 9955 stays on after 1530
with utterly pointless RAE multi-lingual ID reel over and over past
1541, presumably entire semihour, instead of RAE French scheduled M-F.
Off after 1600.

WOR 2219 also confirmed Wednesday December 6 at 2200 on WBCQ 7490
minus 86 Hz = 7489.914, S7/S9 into NH SDR; after two weeks of dead air
instead. Just before 2200 I think I heard Pirate Joe say he would no
longer be on SW/WBCQ after Dec 31. Is that correct? Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW

Thanks to Doug Brown, London ON, for a generous cheque on a US bank
to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702; and says ``Thanks for all
you do for this great hobby of ours``

Or one may contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9455, Dec 6 at 0738, WRMI-5 music overmodulated distorted,
splatter down to 9405, and even detectable down to 9350 on other side
of another WRMI, but the modpeax continue to match 9455 during the
only Fámily Radio hour in Spanish. Something`s outoforder at
Okeechobee. #5 has been a splatterer before (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1590, Dec 6 at 0751 UT, ballad in Spanish, break for ID as
``Ambiente Clásico Radio``, another tune. What?? NRC AM Log has
several USSS on 1590, but no such slogan. Nor anything fits in
exhaustive IRCA Mexican Log. Google search finds immediately, a story
from late Aug after the NRC AM Log deadline and printing:
https://rbr.com/ambiente-clasico-secures-chicago-am-ownership/
‘Ambiente Clásico’ Secures Chicago AM Ownership By Adam Jacobson -
August 29, 2023
It`s the new format and ownership of WCGO, Evanston IL, which had been
Korean, 10/2.5 kW. Radio-locator still shows yet another outdated
format, ``Chicago`s News Talk``.
