RE: [HCDX] Re: Antipodal Focusing
Hello Glenn Perhaps this was a misunderstanding and Thomas used incorrect words to explain a correct thinking. I just checked GeoClock and a Sunrise in Florida at this time of the year corresponds to almost a perfect Sunset in Bangkok, Thailand. Yes, Thailand is not geographically antipodal of USA but they match a Sunset/Sunrise Gray Line and this explains the good propagation noticed by Thomas. Marcelo -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Glenn Hau-ser Sent: Saturday, 6 September 2003 9:09 a.m. To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [HCDX] Re: Antipodal Focusing Sorry to break this to you, but Thailand is nowhere near antipodal from the US. For starters both are in the Northern Hemisphere... Unfortunately there is little land on the opposite side of the globe from the USA --- in the Indian Ocean. 73, Glenn Hauser Yes Radio Thailand on 7260 kc at my local sunrise sure is stable here in Central Florida, even more so then R. Australia on 9580 kc. There is a propagation mode called anti-podal focusing. If you are at or very near the opposite side of the planet from the station you are receiving from and the aurora ovals are retracted, the RF signal can travel on all available geometric (GC) great circle paths, all coming together at the opposite side of the planet and adding up to a big signal. Antipodal focusing may explain Radio Thailand's big signal here in the U.S. Antipodal focusing is best at the fall/spring equinox of which we are fast approaching. A neat HF propagation project would be to keep track of Radio Thailand's 7260 kc signal every morning at local sunrise here in the U.S. for 365 days and plot it's signal strength versus the Ap index. 73, Thomas F. Bogdan Your computer has been infected by the [EMAIL PROTECTED] virus. You can find below a link to Symantec site where there are instructions on how to remove it from an infected computer. The solution involves some changes on the Registry of your computer therefore if you have a limited knowledge in Windows I would recommend you to ask someone else more knowledgeable to follow these instructions otherwise you may permanently damage your Operational System. http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.hllw.cult.h@ mm.html Marcelo -Original Message- From: aurel chiochiu [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, 27 August 2003 10:32 a.m. To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: Marcelo Toniolo; rmonty23; Joe Talbot; [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Priscilla Plamondon Subject: The "virus" message Thank you very much for all your encouragements as to continue this really wonderfull hobby ! Bogdan It seems that you are not really committed to the hobby...a "real" DX'er would never say that he/she will give up with the hobby just because his/her tape recorder with microphone is broken. Since I started on the hobby 25 years ago I have been through so many difficulties and problems that you can't imagine and I am still enjoying the short waves, even now I am having problems with space to have a better antenna, electrical interference and other things. I am sure you can do some fine DX with a simple receiver and wait until you have an opportunity to have a better one. And...I suggest you to invest some money and purchase a good anti virus for your computer. Nowadays this is a must for everyone who's connected to the Internet. RE: [HCDX] Is Computer Logging DX?
Last year I had a disagreement with Glenn Hauser about exactly the same subject. On that occasion someone from USA sent Gleen a message saying he had got a verification (QSL) from Liechtenstein. I thought Radio Liechtenstein was on Shortwave but for my frustration Glenn told me that this "DX er" had heard the station over the Internet. Well, I still consider QSL'ing a radio station over the WEB something stupid. If RNZI wants to reply this message I would suggest them to send an "email QSL" confirming the "WEB DX" or whatever you want to call it. If we start accepting this kind of thing we could find ourselves in a ridiculous situation where the radio will virtually disappear and will be replaced by a computer. If this is the case, how about if I start reporting and QSL'ing TV stations that I catch on Cable ? [HCDX] RWANDA (tent) - 6055
I think I heard Rwanda yesterday on 6055 kHz. The frequency was busy with a program in French language from Radio Slovakia International until a few minutes before 2100 UTC. Right after R. Slovakia s/off I heard a national anthem that finished at 2101 and the carrier remained for a while. I compared the anthem I heard (that was a sang anthem) with the anthem I have in MIDI format and they seem to be very similar but I am not totally sure. Has anybody ever heard Radio Rwanda on this frequency around 2100 UTC ? Thanks Marcelo Toniolo Greenvale, NY (USA) JRC NRD 545 Longwire 15 meters + MFJ 959B
