[HCDX] Luxembourg effect
I had my first experience of the 'Luxembourg effect' yesterday whilst tuned to 567 RTE. There was an echo delayed by about two seconds. Checking the EMWG I was a little surprised to see there was just a single RTE transmitter on the frequency. Recording: http://paulc.mediumwaveradio.org/audio/567.mp3 I was informed by MWC member Ken Baird that the Luxembourg effect had been observed in the past with 567 RTE transmitting ghostly audio from the old Atlantic 252 station. And lo! RTE now transmits on 252 and the 252 signal runs a couple of seconds behind the 567 signal Ken has an interesting note on this as well as a reproduction of an early Luxembourg effect discussion and 'explanation' from 1938 http://www.tadx.mediumwaveradio.org/luxembourg_effect.html Paul Troon, Scotland ---[Start Commercial]- Preorder your WRTH 2007: http://www.hard-core-dx.com/redirect2.php?id=wrth2007 ---[End Commercial]--- Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/ ___ THE INFORMATION IN THIS ARTICLE IS FREE. [HCDX] SS MW UNIDS

[HCDX] 610 kHz CX4 - Help please Spanish speakers!
Hi I recorded the following to items at around UTC this morning. I am certain it is 610 kHz, CX4 Radio Rural, Montevideo, but I would appreciate it if a Spanish speaker could give me more details about the content of the two recordings. The CX4 website states that at the time heard, on Thursdays only, the program from 2050 to 2100 local (2350- UTC) is* **Audición del Centro Mutual y Social de Retirados de Tropa. Does the content of the first recording correspond to this programme?** **http://paulc.mediumwaveradio.org/cx4a.mp3** **The second recording follows on from the first. In the middle an OM makes an announcement which sound quite formal, mentioning Republica Oriental del Uruguay. Is there anything else in there to identify R Rural?** **http://paulc.mediumwaveradio.org/cx4b.mp3* 610 is an interesting frequency in Scotland. The previous night there was a strong Brazilian at around the same time. I could not get an id - but it was probably R Itatiaia, Belo Horizonte. * **Many thanks for listening** **Paul** **Troon, Scotland* * * http://www.presidencia.gub.uy/ ---[Start Commercial]- Preorder your WRTH 2007: http://www.hard-core-dx.com/redirect2.php?id=wrth2007 ---[End Commercial]--- Hard-Core-DX mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/ ___ THE INFORMATION IN THIS ARTICLE IS FREE. Hi can I seek your assistance again. I recorded the three clips below this morning between 0130 and 0250 UTC on 970 kHz. During this time the musical style you hear clearly in recording 9702 was constant with the brief announcements being made on top of the music. In the first clip it sounds like Onda Popular and then perhaps a location name. The second clip is long with four or five announcements over the music - one sounds as if it is by a YL (I thought she says 'Cuba' but I can't find any Cuban station on 970) The third clip also has an announcement The sound is poor and seems distorted, possibly slightly off frequency. http://paulc.mwcircle.org/9701.mp3 http://paulc.mwcircle.org/9702.mp3 http://paulc.mwcircle.org/9703.mp3 Is there an ID in there or do you recognise the music style or the announcement style? Re: [HCDX] UNID 1300 kHz - Spanish language religion program
I think I stated in my original message that I thought I detected an Irish accent in there . and I confused the Portuguese for Spanish! I'm not that well up in religion, the speaker mentions (pardon my spelling, grammar) 'apostolica catolica'. Would this be in keeping with a programme from the 'Pentecostal Church'? I'm glad the recording created some interest although I think the only definite conclusion is that there's no positive ID! On a happier note I logged Radio Guayivu, Buenos Aires on 1610 for the first time last night. He does not sound as a Brazilian speaking. Pay attention to that poderoso: no Brazilian, from any region, pronounces that s, as a Spanish mother tongue does. But it may well be a English mother tounge: it happens to people who speak both Spanish and Portuguese to mix up a little bit when deciding which is the right s to pronounce, for example, in the word poderoso or rosa. The preacher here is clearly imitating David Miranda style, so I would stick to the IPDA. Usually are Brazilian born preachers who use portunhol in other LA countries, not Hispanics in Brazil... Does anyone have any information about 1470 kHz Radio Victoria (spanish language) being heard in the UK with pretty distorted audio - presumed from Central or South America? Re: [HCDX] Anyone confirm this Brazilian id
Thanks for that (and to Samuel who also replied) - how does that translate? This is Esperanca on the air? Paul Glenn Hauser wrote: ``A Esperança está no ar`` -- I guess you refer to ZYK209 in Porto Alegre? [HCDX] Anyone confirm this Brazilian id
I think I have logged Radio Esperanca (1390 kHz) but would appreciate a second (or third) opinion. Some of the programming appeared to be religious which would be correct. What I think is the 'Esperanca' id follows the musical notes in the middle of the recording http://www.geocities.com/paulcrankshaw/esperanca.mp3 Paul Troon, Scotland ---[Start Commercial]- World Radio TV Handbook 2006 is out. [HCDX] Help please with SS id - 1380 kHZ
Can anyone help me with an id please, from a recording made at 0357 UTC today (Monday) on 1380 kHz The id sounds like Potenta AM The first recording (0357 UTC) has what appears to be the name of a location Radio Portales de ...? and the Potenta AM id is at the end of the recording http://www.geocities.com/paulcrankshaw/unknown1.mp3 The second recording (0400 UTC) appears to be a full id but is spoiled by noise from another channel - Potenta AM is heard at least 3 times http://www.geocities.com/paulcrankshaw/unknown2.mp3 Just before the 0400 recording there is a pleasant ballad which I should recognise - but I don't know what it is! Perhaps someone can help me with this too. Third recording http://www.geocities.com/yahfantafooty/unknown3.mp3 In between there are hints that it may be a religious station. There is a reference to Senor Jesu Cristo Thirty minutes later I was hearing YVNG Ondas del Mar, but I'm certain the unknown station is not YVNG. I have replaced the original recording with a clearer, slowed down version, keeping the same pitch. Re: [HCDX] LW Morse Code transmissions
You are in the non-directional beacons (NDB) band. Mainly low power airport beacons plus a few marine beacons. Here in W Scotland I regularly hear Canadian airport beacons, along with DDP-391 San Juan International Airport, Puerto Rico. The band runs from around 220 kHz (in amongst all the broadcasters) up to around 520 kHZ. OF (carrier frequency is 325 kHz with the OF offset +/- 400 Hz) is Filton. Paul Troon David Harries wrote: Hi all. I am in Bristol, Southwest England. The LW (Longwave) band on my Shortwave radio (Roberts R809) is quite expansive and goes up to 519khz. Above 270khz, I get a few interesting transmissions. As at 2117hrs UTC I am getting a bit of morse code on one frequency: Frequency: 326khz MorseCode: ---..-. According to my sources: --- = O .. = I -. = N but --- = O ..-. = F So ---..-. makes OIN or OF. [HCDX] Kiwa Loop question
I have acquired a Kiwa Loop, but the 5-pin DIN plug connecting the loop to the black box is missing. I seem to have a 1 in 120 chance of getting it right! Does anyone know what the sequence of wiring this plug might be? I've been tryng to subscribe to the Kiwa Loop discussion board at: http://www2.hard-core-dx.com/mailman/listinfo/kiwa-loop but message just bounce.
