AUSTRALIA   Down Under Special Event Will Use Former Radio Australia Antennas
Over the March 14–15 weekend, members of the Shepparton and District Amateur
Radio Club (SADARC) in Australia will be on the air as VI3RA (Radio Australia)
connecting their transceivers to the curtain array and rhombic antennas at the
former Radio Australia site in Shepparton. Radio Australia ceased transmitting
from the site in 2017. VI3RA will operate on 40, 30, 20, 17 and 15 meters.
"Local amateurs will be given the unique opportunity to explore the use of high
gain antennas whilst giving amateurs throughout the world a unique opportunity
to contact a station using such high-gain antennas", said SADARC President
Peter Rentsch, VK3FPSR. "This is a rare opportunity for amateur radio operators,
who are only allowed a peak output power of 400 W in Australia when compared to
100 kW of Radio Australia transmitters to hopefully achieve some remarkable
communication outcomes. We expect to get a gain of 15 dB on the lower
frequencies and at least 20 dB on 21 MHz". The special event is being
conducted in cooperation with BAI Communications (Broadcast Australia)

Rx: KiwiSDR (São Bernardo) + Mini Whip Antenna. I would like to hear an idea 
on this.

[HCDX] Tom Taylor passing away

Tom Taylor passing awayWith great sadness we report the death of European Music 
Radio's founder and short wave legend Tom Taylor, to many also known as Barry 
Stephens. For many dedicated SW free radio enthusiasts, E.M.R. was thé station 
in the late 1970s and 1980. As from 1980 onwards E.M.R. and FRS became sister 
stations. Within a few days a Memorial with some personal memories will be put 
on the FRS site. We will inform you via mail when it will be on-line.
All of us at FRS are shocked by Tom's death. He indeed was a short wave legend. 
May he rest in peace.

1430 UTC Monday, September 11 - Hurricane Irma has done extensive damage at 
WRMI in Okeechobee, Florida. Two antenna towers are down and many poles holding 
transmission lines are also down. Power went out at around 2030 UTC Sunday, and 
it may not be restored for days. Meanwhile, all transmitters are off the air. 
Our Internet service is also down, which means that our live stream is down as 
well. All of our staff are OK. We'll try to provide more information later

Greetings from Italy!

Here is the schedule for the next broadcasts of Marconi Radio International 
(MRI) which continues its tests on 7 MHz. 

Saturday, 16th April, 2016, from 1200 to 1300 UTC, from 2030 to 2130 UTC and 
from 2100 to 2200 UTC.  


Our frequency is 7690 kHz (USB Mode) and power in the region of 100 watts. Test 
broadcasts consist of non stop music, station identification announcements in 
Italian, English, Spanish, German, French and Catalan as well as DX shows in 
English and Italian.


MRI encourages reception reports from listeners. Audio clips (mp3-file) of our 
broadcasts are welcome! We QSL 100%. Our electronic mail address is: 
marconiradiointernatio...@gmail.com - Please don’t forget to include your 
postal address as some lucky listeners will also receive a printed QSL card.


Last but not least,  we need your help! If you use social networks, please post 
an announcement on Facebook  or send out a tweet the day  before the broadcast.

 no ID. Is it on a regular schedule of VOIRI, or is something like Iran e'
 Farda (Tomorrow Iran) that was on 5830, or other clandestine radio?

 a transmission from teh foreign service KOL ISRAEL on 6985 kHz. Much
 stronger as 6973 kHz. At 1810 UTC a french, followed at 1815 UTC by
 a spanish and 1830 by an english programme.

[HCDX] *RAI: RaItalia Arriving In 2007

A new project, a new idea and a new mission for RAI International - or 
RaItalia as rumour has it the structure headed by Massimo Magliaro will be 
renamed in 2007. A six-person work group comprising representatives from RAI 
and the Italian premier's office are working on this new project. The RAI 
delegation is headed by Deputy Director General Giancarlo Leone, aided by 
Pierluigi Malesani and Deborah Bergamni. The government delegation is headed 
by the chief of the Information and Publishing Department Paolo Peluffo. The 
group has already met twice (on October 13 and 24) and is expected to 
complete the project's outline by November, Cabinet Undersecretary Ricardo 
Franco Levi reported to parliament. Until now, RAI International has 
operated on the basis of two conventions with the Italian government, which 
officially expired in December 2005. The first, worth 18 million euros, 
dates back to 1962. This covers radio and requires it to produce 11,300 
hours of short-band radio time. The second convention, signed in 1975, is 
worth around 20 million euros and deals with TV. This requires around 700 
hours of TV production (around two hours daily) and 1,380 hours of radio 
production. The total of 38 million euros gross represents 40% of RAI 
Internationals' revenue. Soon, however, things will change. Sources have 
told the VELINO that the two conventions will be merged into a single one 
and will include radio and TV programs. The convention will also be worth 
more in financial terms, at over 40 million euros. The government apparently 
plans to ask RAI International to abandon (or radically reduce) its 
short-wave radio transmissions and to reinvest the 18 million euros under 
the old convention in a better way. This will mean an end to the news in 26 
languages (including Esperanto and Lithuanian) that RAI International 
broadcasts each day: 120 lines, totalling 15 minutes of daily news, which 
are translated and eventually adapted by the team to meet the needs of the 
country it is directed at. In the future, the news will be delivered in just 
five languages: Spanish, French, English, German and Arab. It will be 
broadcast via satellite or, for a while, short-wave radio. This should not 
have a massive impact in terms of employees. Around 80 mother-tongue 
translators and newsreaders deal with the 26 newscasts, around 50% within 
RAI, who will be given other jobs within the company. There are several 
changes planned for the RaItalia program. The priority of the company's 
directors is ensuring that the satellite channel - currently not visible in 
Europe or the Mediterranean - can at least be watched all over Italy 
(possibly by asking to be represented by Sky). There is also talk of two 
different channels for Rai International, one in Italian and the other in 
English. For the future, the program will draw on the best of the public 
service (RaiUno, RaiDue, RaiMed and so on), and will be structured by genre, 
with a particular focus on target markets: Italians abroad as well as 
foreigners enamoured of Italy. Some 18 million euros will be saved from 
ending short-wave radio transmissions and the number of hours of 
self-produced programs will be boosted, particularly sport and news (there 
are rumours of blending with RaiNews 24 and RaiMed). An ad hoc programming 
schedule will also be studied devoted to the promotion of Italian culture in 
the world, which MPs elected in the foreign districts will help plan, on the 
basis they are in touch with the interests of local communities. (velino)

 d'Adda (30 km east Milano) is no more in use.
 they use other TX places cause they cost more
 cheaper than the 7 kW Telefunken (yet repaired many times)

I think they still have a working tx in Trezzo d'Adda, in spite of they use 
Sofia-Konstinbrod for their customers

[HCDX] Julich troubles or???

Today at 0910 UTC something happened on 11775 khz. While AWR Europe was 
broadcasting DX program Studio DX, many Dxer in Europe was listening me whit 
italian dx news and a man talking in german and music. Apparently no co-channel 
on 11775 at that hour, but Radio Romania International starts at 1000 UTC just 
in german. New UTC for RRI? Feeds problem AWR-Julich? Unfortunately nobody was 
able to check AWR on Hotbird 13° or some affiliated FM station in Italy, and I 
was at work, so I don't know if it was a BF or RF trouble. DXer Luca Di 
Spalatro from Italy listened the same mix also last sunday, june 5. Any idea?

Fair signal here in south Italy, kurdish (?) mx in clear channel on 6310,2

In the past days I read on HCDX Benin on 5024, Turkmenistan 4931, Mauritania on 
4850, Difusora Acreana at 2030 and 2150 UTC, and today for the first time I 
know that many dxer regularly listen an italian station on 4510 Khz but no 
trace of this transmission in any log. No stop italian music on 1503 Khz also 
here in south Italy with weak signal, QRM from Spain and from an arabic station 
with Holy Quran. I listened italian music on 1503 Khz, I listened also an ID 
but I want to verify again. No signal on 4509-10 Khz.

 Just tuned into WMR on 5815 @ 2105 and it's LOUD! 59+20 peaking to +40dB
 here. Some QSB at the moment as it is just on twilight here so this is to
be
 expected as propagation moves into night time mode. Heard sung WMR World
 Music Radio ID/Jingle and now playing Hotel California by the Eagles -
if
 this is the quality of music that is to be expected, I have a feeling that
 WMR will find a space in my radio's memory!

S9 peaking to 9+20 here in south Italy
