Dear FRS Friends!

The time has finally come... After a (too...) long break, FRS-Holland
will return to the airwaves next July/August.
A combination of circumstances forced us to be inactive for more than 6
months. We do regret this inactivity but:

with new energy we will soon return to the shortwave airwaves.
Good news: all familiar FRS voices will join: Jan, Mike, Bert, Dave &
Peter V.

Important: our website frsholland.nlwill be off line for a while because
we switch to a new provider.

That implies we will build a new site starting in July/ August.
At the same time you cannot check our website for the latest details
regarding the FRS Summer Splash.
In this mail we will supply the most important information, share it
with any radio friend/ colleague!
We hope those who run a blog will share the info with their readers.
Thanks in advance!!

FRS Summer Splash

Following last year's successful edition, we hope you will also enjoy
the upcoming one.

Our schedule: 3 weeks in a row, a 2 hour broadcast.

Sunday July 23rd 18:59- 21:04 UTC/ 20:59- 23:04 CEST
Sunday July 30th 18:59- 21:04 UTC/ 20:59- 23:04 CEST
Sunday August 6th 18:59- 20:59 UTC/ 20:59- 23:04 CEST

All programmes will be thematic including various radio related items.
Don't miss it!

Frequencies

Frequencies will be 6185 kHz & 7700//5800 (or 5790) kHz. Last year we
experienced some difficulties with a suitable
5.8 MHz frequency, so it’s hard to give you the exact frequency. But it
will be close to (or on) 5800 kHz.

Streams

Of course there will be streams as well in the week after the shortwave
broadcasts.

Unfortunately we haven't received conformation about dates/ times. We

Asunto Season's Greetings/ FRS on air XMas Day

Dear FRS Friends ,
[]

At the end of the year a little message from us at FRSH.
For most of you this weekend sees the start of the Holiday Season.

2022 has been a good year for FRS-Holland. In particular the Summer
Splash (3-in-a-row) and

the 42nd Anniversary broadcast produced a great response.
Thanks to each and every one who supported us in 2022.
We look forward to hear from you in the New Year.

In the mean time all eQSLs plus the hard copies via postal services,
have been forwarded.
There only a few hard copies left, so if you are interested you know
what to do.
The hard copy QSL looks slightly different and certainly is a 'must
have!

News
We were a bit disappointed by the fact that conditions were poor last
weekend.

Shortwave propagation is unpredictable!
The good news is that there will be a full repeat next XMas Sunday
December 25th.
Programmes run from 10:52- 15:35 UTC/ 11:52- 16:35 CET. Frequencies are
5870, 7700 & 9300 kHz.

Mind you: this time 9300 is with higher power and 7700 with low power.
Perhaps you find a little time to tune in between family business!

We wish all of you a Merry Xmas and a healthy, 'radioactive'& succesful
2023 .

Dear FRS Friends,

Apart from next Sunday's 09:52- 14:35 CET broadcast, there will be a
full repeat starting in the afternoon.

That broadcast will commence at 16 UTC/ 17 CET on 3940 kHz.
A good opportunity for those who cannot listen during the morning and/or
early afternoon!

Have a great weekend!

73s, Peter V.

"On Sunday October 30th, the Free Radio Service Holland will take to the
airwaves celebrating 42 years of shortwave free radio.
On this occasion, programmes will commence at 08:52 UTC/ 09:52 CET and
close down will be at 13:35 UTC/ 14:35 CET . Following close down the
full programming might be repeated (if so only on 7700 and/or 9335
kHz!). Programmes will be aired on 7700//9335 and 6185 kHz. .
Expect the familiar FRS format: great music, various (surprising) radio
related items, FRS memories, listener's mail and of course DX news. We
haven't included details in the programme schedule below because...we'd
like to surprise you!
Because of the high number of letters/ e-mails we received following our
July/August Summer Splash, our good old International Listeners' Letter
Show will be revived for this occasion! In the 1980s it used to be part
of our programming. Mike Taylor who used to do the Mailbag Show on
E.M.R., will host the I.L.L.S. Tune in on Sunday October 30th...it will
be great Sunday entertainment and more than worth while!
And: for this special occasion only, a brand new QSL card is available,
printed in full colour on heavy high quality paper.
Reports but moreover: personal comments and criticism are more than
welcome. P.O.Box 2702 in 6049 ZG Herten, the Netherlands (=excellent

Saturday August 14th at 02:00 UTC, FRS-holland will have a one hour

5800 kHz via a 100 kW transmitter from Radio Miami Int. (WRMI).. Texas
Radio Shortwave selected a number of low power Euro SW stations that
broadcast interesting programs. Aim is to provide interesting content
for North American listeners who may not know these stations exist and
for DXers who can’t hear these stations under current solar conditions.
A first series went out last July & August and a 2nd series will start
early Sept and run until late November. On Sunday November 21st at )1:00
UTCa second FRS-Holland relay will take place. On that occasion FRS will
be put out woth 100 kW on 5950 kHz.
Although WRMI's 5800 signal is primarily aimed at North America,

Souvenir booklet/CD
It won't surprise you that the months prior to November 8th were fully
focused on preparing, organizing etc.for the 40th Anniversary. There was
hardly/no time for other 'business'. Nevertheless we felt it was the
right moment for a souvenir CD ánd booklet. And: we had to work on
creating/ producing an unique Anniversary QSL as well. It was not until
a week after the Anniversary broadcast that a start was made to produce
CD, booklet and QSL.
In the mean time the 'ingredients' for the CD have been finished. The
main idea for the special QSL card has been worked out and even better:
the QSL has already been printed. Those who sent a reception
report/letter to P.O.Box 2702 won't regret it: the 40th Anniversary QSL
is (in our humble opinion) a success and looks splendid. It's a folded
A4, printed on heavy quality paper in full color. Wait and see!
For those who sent an e-mail report, regretting (after reading the
above) they didn't go for a hard copy: you can still get your unique QSL
by writing to P.O.Box 2702. We have printed a few extra ones but
remember: this QSL is only issued for the 40th Anniversary broadcast!
Without exaggeration: the hard copy QSL is by far the best option! This
Holiday Season a start will be made replying to all who send an e-mail
report or a letter/report to P.O.Box 2702 ( it was crammed with
letters!).
The booklet will contain 32 pages (!) and only costs 5 euro. That's also
the price for the CD. Payments via P.O.Box 2702 or via Paypal: use
f...@frsholland.nl .

[HCDX] FRS-Holland 200th Broadcast August 30th

2020-08-28 Thread Manuel Méndez

Manuel Méndez
Lugo, Spain

"Dear FRS Friends,

Upcoming Sunday August FRS-Holland will be on air celebrating its 200th
official broadcast on short wave.
The FRS presenting team is excited about this milestone and looking
forward to this special broadcast.
Neither costs nor efforts were spared to serve you, the listener, with
the best in Free Radio.
That means an evening full of great music but above all interesting
info blocks related to our 40 year history.

40 years? Yes, one day later, Monday August 31st 2020 FRS-Holland
becomes 40 years.
We have decided to split the festivities: on Sunday our 200th broadcast
and late October/ early November the
celebration of our 40th Anniversary. Of course we will inform you prior
to that broadcast.

But for now we concentrate on our 200thlook at for full details:
http://www.frsholland.nl/20-latest-news/144-frs-holland-s-200th-broadcast.html

See you next Sunday!!

73s , the FRS-Holland team

Ps All mail from July/August will be answered shortly after the
upcoming Newsletter. Included the Summer 2020 FRS Newsletter.

FRS-Holland's 200th Broadcast
Next Sunday August 30th- 40 years minus one day after FRS-Holland's
official start back in 1980- the first of two festive broadcasts will
take place.
Don't be misunderstood: this won't be the celebration of our 40th
Anniversary! We save that one for later this year in October/ early
November.
Next Sunday it concerns our 200th official broadcast. And all of us at
FRS are eager to bring you the best in Free Radio. 'Statistics &
Numbers' is a common thread through all of our evening shows. Each show
contains a number of info topics based on statistics & numbers related
to FRS' long history. Also the choice of music is (partly) related to
this subject. Of course mail will be handled in all shows and: we
feature a little competion. Win yourself a radio DVD! We will draw three
prize winners.
Programmes run from 16:52- 21:00 UTC/ 18:52- 23:00 CEST. Frequencies:
5790//7700 kHz. There might be a third frequency...keep an eye on the
FRS website for the latest information. We will publish a 'Latest News'
item on Sunday, not long before the start of the actual broadcast. We
hope we can count on you: tune in and let us know about reception and
the programmes. Hope to meet you next Sunday!

Manuel Méndez
Lugo, Spain

FRS-Holland on air Easter Sunday April 12th 2020
Following a test broadcast in March, FRS-Holland will be on air next
Sunday April 12th. We are in the middle of an ureal reality and we feel
this is a great opportunity to reach out to many of you, especially now!
FRS has put together an attractive schedule with great music and
various interesting topics. Common items are e-mails/letters from March,
the Phrase that Pays, Archive Sound bytes from Easter 1983 and an item
called 'Comfort & Hope'.

[HCDX] FRS Holland news about next transmission

2020-03-08 Thread Manuel Méndez

Manuel Méndez
Lugo, Spain

Mail from FRS Holland:

"As you may know 2020 is a special year for us at FRS.
In fact we has planned a BC late February/ early March, but I haven't
been fit for a while.
That's the reason we have postponed this BC. I guess it will be within
the next 4 or 5 weeks.
Interesting: the modulation of our big TXhas been improved. Opposite to
our December BC, we can now use full power
and very loud audio. Since late January there have been (unannounced)
tests on 5800, 5810, 7700, 7705 & 7715.
Mostly late in the afternoon. Last Thursday we tested on 7715 with
excellent signals all over Europe (apart from the nearby
areas --> skip). Also in Spain, Greece, Lisbon, Scandinavia and even in
the US/ Canada good reception.

Perhaps next Sunday a presented test...watch your mail!
Have a good Sunday and spread the word...

"Dear FRS Friends,

On July 31st we sent out a mail informing about a possible repeat of our
July 28th broadcast. That repeat was planned for last Sunday but a faulty
5810 transmitter made us decide to wait another week hoping the rig would
be repaired in time.

The current situation is that it's most likely the rig will be repaired for
tomorrow. However...most likely is nót 100%!

"NEXT FRS-HOLLAND BROADCAST It’s a long time tradition….FRS-Holland’s
Holiday Season broadcast. On Sunday December 30th FRS-Holland will be on
air with this annual festive broadcast. Note that the this broadcast
will be on 7700 ánd a 5.8 MHz frequency (replacing 9300). Programnmes
are run twice between 08:52-14:05 UTC/ 09:52-15:05 CET and 14:05-19:15
UTC/ 15:05-20:15 UTC. We realize that part of the 2nd run will be in the
dark hours…not favourable for Europe but on the other hand better
chances for North America. Our 5.8 MHz frequency (5800 or 5810
hopefully) will do better than 9300 in the later part (less risk of long
skip). FRS-Holland offers you the opportunity to send in your December
Greetings to radio friends and relatives. Your contributions are highly
appreciated and will add something special to our programmes! You can
easily produce a little (written) message and send it to
[f...@frsholland.nl]. It only takes a few minutes of your spare time
We raffle a radio DVD among those who participate in our December
broadcast with their Seasonal greetings. We'd like to ask you to do it
as soon as possible as some shows will be recorded within 10 days.Don't
hesitate but just do it! If you have the opportunity to send in an audio
(mp3) clip you are more than welcome! Written messages are also welcome
via POBox 2701, 6049 ZG Herten in the Netherlands. Join us ringing out
2018the FRS-Holland staff is looking forward to hear from you... I
hope you will be tuning our way December 30th. Watch your mailbox as we
always forward an e-mail prior to a proposed broadcast. And of course
check our website. All info will be published at least 5 days before any
broadcast.

REPORTS Reception reports sent by mail are consequently verified with
our e-QSL. For snail mail we offer a high quality printed A5 size hard
QSL copy- in full colour- which has a different (much better looking)
back and is of course much more desirable compared with the e-QSL.
Although we realize that an e-mail report is a quick and easy way in
reporting, we feel that a ‘letter’ report to our mailbox (POB 2702) is a
more ‘charming’ and personal way. For only 3 euro/ 3 US dollars we
forward that desirable QSL along with a large A5 size color sticker! If
you are interested in our exciting, adventurous history…you can obtain a
hard-copy of our specially produced ‘30 Years of FRS-Holland’ booklet
(24 pages, in colour!). Send 5 euro/ 7 US dollars to FRSH, POBox 2702,
6049 BE Herten, the Netherlands. A very interesting read is guaranteed!!
All the best & 73s, Peter V. (on behalf of Jan, Paul, Dave, Roger, Bert,
Bobby & Brian) 73s Peter V.

"AUTUMN 2018 BROADCAST On Sunday November 18th FRS’ third 2018 broadcast
took place. It was decided to put out the programme schedule twice:
09:52-14:05 CET followed by a second run 14:05-18:10 CET.
The driving idea was to give listeners two chances tuning our way. In
case someone would be prevented listening in the morning hours, there
would be a 2nd chance in the afternoon. And of course vice versa!
Additional advantage: propagation in the afternoon could be different
(read: more favourable) compared with the morning hours. Frequencies
were ‘good old’ 7700 in parallel with 9300 kHz. On Sunday Nov. 11th a
few tests were successfully run on 9300. We were confident 9300 could do
well.

Propagation that Sunday was fair/good and during most of the day signals
on both freqs were audible in wide areas of the European continent. 7700
was the strongest/ loudest but there were areas in which 9300 was equal
to 7700. FRS signals were received in at least 16 countries. Remarkably
strong signals for instance in countries like Switzerland, Iceland,
Italy & Norway. But also stable reception in Estononia and Kongsfjord
(Artic). Later in the evening 9300 faded out in most areas.

That also counts for 7700 but that was later and in a smaller area. All
in all we at FRS were happy with the overall results. At 11:15 CET our
TX engineer decided to make a move from 9300 to 9335 kHz. Reason was a
very annoying Stanag/ data signal causing a nasty heterodyne. Some
listeners assumed the TX developed a fault…that was nót the case as we
moved to 9335 kHz were the 31 mb outlet successfully continued.
Salient detail: not long after moving to another channel the data signal
disappeared… Although we announced 9213 as a standby frequency, it was
decided to continue on 9335.

Perhaps confusing for some listeners! A message was put on the website
in which we informed about th

"FRS on air Sunday September 2nd

Last Sunday's broadcast was seriously affected by a so called *geomagnetic
