Via Wessex

1655  at 1625 with nice old songs : hose of rising sun , ther reaper from BOC
with signal -65dbm There is a annoying  carrer on the -4 kHz with -75dbm which
risen to -65 at 1628 while the 1655 was fallen on -72 and returned to -55 dbm
at 1629 with a rock son g of 60s style of Elvis Presley The 1655 produces a
wide splatter in ±15kHz bandwidth Still on 1929 with country song but clear
pass band with -65dbm The man started a long self chatter with continuous chat
at ‘Who knows’ on the mike with background music

1395 NL  bomb signal from a Netherlands pirate at 1638 with good pop song then
with ‘everything I do’  then with AC DC after some short talks on the song
titles. ‘This is pop sounds’ ID at 1645 as Seebreeze Clouseau is referred in
the next song and hotel California after a new IS audio clip.   Signal  at -55
dbm max with fadeout to -90bm Armenia signal under him..
A better ID Seebreeze heard on 1701

1035 poss Lyca Dise R 1832 with talk in Hindiglish with IDs
Not Lyca(?) on 1458 then returned back to 1035 with Hindi songs at 1834 with

QRM from 1026 BBC

2008-10-23 Thread aurel chiochiu
555 ST KITTS AND NEVIS, ZIZ, Basseterre OCT 24 0304 UTC+++ - with reggae
music and Caribbean-accented announcer with rhythmic chatter during the reggae
segment with TALKOVER effect. Up and down, but fair-good on peaks and quite
easily listenable with very slow fadings. As I write this, it has faded down.
(Chiochiu-QC)

760 COLOMBIA, HJAJ, RCN Cadena Basíca, Barranquilla OCT 24 0245 UTC - with a
men and a woman talking about the developpement of true Colombian salsa music
which is authentic and has a fairly different set of typical melodies and
harmonies than foreign salsa music. They begun to play a fairly uninspired
(to me) salsa tune) when they faded out to be replaced by weak residual WJR
which was nulled out with the Sanyo MCD-S830 barefoot perpendicular to the N-S.
(Chiochiu-QC) Bogdan's note: some of the objectivaly and artistically most
prided salsa dura comes from the city of Cali. I wish I didn't had 990 as an
adjacent-channel obstacle to 980 RCN, which would be in // with 1000 Cartagena
and 760 Barranquilla.

Well, it's been quite some time since I've last heard from ZIZ-555 with such a
beautifool signal...

Bogdan Chiochiu using his trusty Sanyo MCD-S830 receiver barefoot.

I'm looking forward buying an antenna to enhance reception in the 800s and 900s
where a lot of my favorite Latin American targets are during auroras. Still
tried of listening to the same 1 or 2 TAs, such as Spain-585 which is difficult
to follow. Even when they are very strong, they sound a tiny bit muffed.

On october 23rd, 19 years ago, back in 1989, Aventure FM went off the air for
good to be replaced by MaXXimum. Anyone has any recorded broadcast or
airchecks from the BEST RADIO STATION IN THE WORLD ?

May the good DX be with you !

[HCDX] MW Logs from the past night

2005-09-11 Thread aurel chiochiu
1160 UNITED STATES, SEP 11 0106 EDT - News Talk 11-60 WNWE. I don't seem to
find anything at all matching what I've heard, though I'm not sure of the
second letter; may have been WNWA - wich ends in the same soudn as E or WMWA.
The third letter was W like the first one and there seem to be an E sound at
the end. Didn't had the tape running though ! (Chiochiu-QC)

1220 US unID, SEP 11 0108 EDT - while trying for XEB heard rap gospel and light
pop gospel as well as man and woman talking and laughing a bit, then man about
Jesus Christ (a masochist, by the way !) followed by a phone-in from a
listener Hi ! How are you doing ? then very short talk with him followed by
music. Signal strenght up and down ranging from fairly good to extremely
threshold. Occasionnal QRM from apparent Cleveland. Any ideas ? (Chiochiu-QC)

Pan-American DX

610 CUBA, CMMA, Radio Rebelde, Guantanamo SEP 11 0456 UTC - A rather threshold
signal fading in and out of nothing with salsa music, // 600 and 5025. 1180 had
only fair-strenght remains of nulled WHAM with nothing under. Haven't heard
this one in years, in fact, since the fall of 2000 when I officially started
DX'ing. Colombia was also semi-regular in 2000-2001 here. (Chiochiu-QC)

640 GUADELOUPE, Radio Guadeloupe SEP 11 0654 UTC - Very poor reception with FF
nx and what sounded like announcements of upcoming programs. QRM mainly, at
this time, mostly from an unID US middle-of-the-road station (didn't sound at
all like WNNZ, CFYR, Progreso or Union Radio !). By the way had Progreso here
earlier, but with a rather threshold, fading and messy signal. The first
non-Cuban and non-RVC DX this season BELOW 910 kHz this season ! (Chiochiu-QC)

I only sleeped about 5 hours and a half the past night, as I was excited due to
the Auroral condx. Aside from the unID domestics, especially the one on 1220
(I'd especially appreciate any help on this), no big surprises.

On foreign DX, Cuba-610 and Guadeloupe-640 were fairly nice, but I expected
some Venezuelans and / or Colombians. Generally, condx were very poor toward
both domestic and Latins.

By 3 AM EDT when I went to bed, the Auroral condx got even more intenses with
even the upper end signals in the 1400's very poor. The GY channels had a weak
rumble on them.

Well, that's it for now !
I'll try to encode some of my recent DX including the 1220 apparent southern
domestic into real-audio later today,
Be the good DX stuff with you,
Bogdan Chiochiu

[HCDX] MW Logs from this morning

2005-01-02 Thread aurel chiochiu
Hello to all of you !

Despite getting to bed after mid-night last night, I had a nightmare that made
me anxious and made me wake up a little bit after 4:00 AM. It's the first time
I really intensively DXed in months. I got a new one: CHOK in Sarnia over the
CBA pest along with tentative KNX (wich I never heard); this indicates I should
do much more listening before sunrise than I used to do. Here are the logs.
After I sent it, I'll go back to DX for a couple of hours, until the last
skywave signals fade out on the AM band.

530 TURKS AND CAICOS, Radio Vision Cristiana, Caicos JAN 2 1018 - Still
excellent with Spanish gospel music and man announcer. (Chiochiu-QC)

670 CUBA, CMQ, Radio Rebelde, Arroyo Arrenas JAN 2 1021 - Son music at
poor-fair level, // 5025 (fair-good) and 600. (Chiochiu-QC)

1070 CANADA, CHOK, Sarnia, Ont JAN 2 0606 EST - Good end of a 70's mid-tempo
song with some synthesizer, then promo for the morning team on ...information
station, CHOK. Very good signal with not even the faintest trace of CBA for a
minute or so, then CBA did come-back until about 0613 when both stations faded
down ! (Chiochiu-QC)

1070 USA, KNX, Los Angeles, CA JAN 2 0613 - Woman with nx and woman on the
phone; very weak signal, too weak to understand. Equal level with CBA and CHOK
wich both faded down. (Chiochiu-QC)

I'm back to the dials !
73 and good DX,
Bogdan

1060 MEXICO XEEP Radio Educación, México, DF; 0915+ 23 Nov., good w/ nonstop
classical music, // strong 6185.

1300 USA unID; 0925-1005 23 Nov., someone here testing or doing maintenance
w/ a nonstop loop consisting of a six-second ~800 Hz test tone followed by
canned M CBS Radio Network Channel 42. Quite mutant. Fair level and
mostly dominating, seemingly some groundwave. From Florida?

1360 FLORIDA WKAT, Miami; 0932+ 23 Nov., classical music, usually atop WMOB,
Mobile. Canned Id by M at 0958, WKAT, Miami... serving Miami-Dade, the

2004-10-31 Thread Terry L. Krueger

All times/dates GMT.

530 OVER FLORIDA WATERSPACE R Martí (via the 193rd PANG PsyOps aircraft) -
2213-2250 30 October, alone and local level, definitely the first local
Saturday since Hurricane Ivan in mid-September and the wave of hurricanes
thereafter forced this once to deactivate. Usual Spanish commentaries and
news, // 6030, et. al. Thanks Gerry Bishop for the phone alert tip.
Recheck around 2330 had Radio Visión Cristiana dominating over Martí.

1060 CUBA R Veinteseis, unknown site, Matanzas - 0858+ 31 October w/ female
Esta es Radio Veinteseis... 1060 kiloHertz, desde Matanzas... 5 de la
mañana. Brief chatter by man, then into boleros. So, the first clear
confirmation that Cuba didn't switch off of Daylight Time.

1122.8 UNIDENTIFIED (CUBA?)- 0904+ 31 October, big, warbling FM grinding
blob noted here, no real audio detected. Still present 1600+, so suspect a
malfing Cuban transmitter, especially since noted pre/post local MW
day/night power and pattern potential spurious sources. Anyone outside of
Tampa Bay able to confirm? Exact frequency hard to determine, if there
really is one.

1172.7 UNIDENTIFIED - 0905+ 31 October, threshold music. Presume something
Latin American.

1359.71 FLORIDA WHNR, Winter Haven - 0914+ 31 October, US soul and blues
oldies, black female I'm Debra McDowell and thank you for listening... on
your blues and oldies station... Same off-frequency observation here as
Crawford logs. Fair signal at best.

1500 UNIDENTIFIEDS - 0935+ 31 October, a pileup of at least three Spanish
stations, Enciclopedia possibly one but not the dominant one, unsure if the
local WPSO New Port Richey station may have been one (none // 1520 local
Greek). Presume one of these (or the below) is not WKIZ, Key West, that is
if they are still talk (ex-Spanish format). A domestic English or two also
popping up at times.

1500.05 UNIDENTIFIED - 0935+ 31 October, Spanish man, nondescript Spanish
vocals. At times, fair level on fade-ups. Not WPSO, as they were
on-frequency at 1630 check, though with only brief blips of Greek audio
every minute or two, something wrong with their feed or board patch.

[HCDX] MW logs

2003-08-17 Thread Terry Krueger
Insomnia till about 3 a.m. last night after the Ringo show
resulted in a little MW scanning. Nothing much, just
oddities. All times/dates GMT.

1020 UNIDENTIFIED 0450-0532 8/17. Nonstop classical music
fading in and out of the Cuban buzz jammer and the Kreyol
format station in Kendall, FL. My first thought was Musical
Nacional on a new channel. And while it could be, no
parallels located and 590 seemingly silent. Musical used to
close around local midnight or 1 a.m. Anyone know if that
is still the case?

1050 UNIDENTIFIED (no doubt USA) 0510+ 8/17. All-80's power
pop such as Toto's Hold the Line and Asia's Heat of the
Moment and an obscure Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark
song. Weird language M (almost sounded Slavic). Fair, with
XEQOO Radio Pirata in Cancn sometimes dominating. Ideas?

1310 CUBA Radio Enciclopedia 0553+ 8/17. Briefly up with
usual EZL music and canned female ID, patter. Unknown het
on high side.

1310.37 UNIDENTIFIED Latin American 0553-0602 8/17. Spanish
ballads, very poor.

1540 BAHAMAS ZNS1, Nassau - 0535+ 8/17. Weird, a couple of
years ago I recall hearing them track Billy Joel's River Of
Dreams album in its' entirety. So whadda ya know, tonight
I stumbled upon them tracking Joel's The Stranger and
across the top-of-the-hour. Is there some hidden meaning
here, or could there be a closet Billy fan working graveyard
in central New Providence?

1669 UNIDENTIFIED 0532-0535 8/17. Huge buzzing blob noted
on 1670, actually seemed more like 1669 when in sideband.
No audio. Anyone else hearing this?

87.9 MHz FLORIDA (PIRATE) Mlodie FM Tampa. Mlodie
appears to be the correct slogan for this one, not Unit
FM as I originally thought. Quite a few ID's noted 0330+
8/17 while driving home from St. Petersburg. Usual Kreyol
format.

[HCDX] MW logs and comments from the past evening (January 13)

2003-01-14 Thread Aurel Chiochiu

Hello !

Solar conditions seemed fairly low the last evening
(January 13 - early AM Jan. 14 UTC), not enough to make St.-Pierre-1375 audible,
but too low to make any decent or even sub-par Latin American reception
possible. The only real action and signal I could identify was from
Guadeloupe-640 mixing with the 2 other regulars (WNNZ and YVQO Union Radio).
But, I could enjoy at times a very strong signal from CKEC-1320, my favorite
canadian station. If anyone, especially those far-away in the west (such as
Patrick Martin with your big Eastern Beverage) would like to log NS, I think
CKEC in New Glasgow would be your best bet.

QTH: Montreal/Pierrefonds, Quebec,
Canada
Equipment: Sanyo MCD-S830 w/ ferrite
antenna

Note: Latin American DX is reported
inUTCand Domestic DX is reported in Easternstandard
Time.

Pan-American DX:

640 Guadeloupe, Pointe-à-Pitre JAN 14 0307 -
Man in FF with what sounded likenx. Barely audible with heavy QRM from
WNNZ and even weakers Venezuela/probable Cuba, but the only Latin
Americanchannel to produce readable audio last night (RVC-530 was barely
hetting with bits of audio against the adjacent computer QRM from our
neighborhood). Also 760 was producing bits of Colombian audio from(RCN
Barranquilla) around 0157in a tight WJR null, but definitively
sub-standard reception. (Chiochiu-QC)

The last Sunday night conditions were just as
poor.

Domestic DX:

630 WPRO (Providence, RI) JAN 13 - noted in
passing with nearly always an excellent signal during the mid-evening period
with not much evidence of CHLT Sherbrooke. They are nightly visitors in the
Montreal area, of course, with usually good to very good signals, but not that
often LOCAL-like, like they were the past night. (Chiochiu-QC)

1320 CKEC (New Glasgow, NS) JAN 13 1852 -
with the DJ talking about a Canadian song they just played (probably by Alanis
Morissette) and sayed it's "on CKEC, Radio New Glasgow" followed by commercial
ads. Verygood at the time. Also playeda BackStreet Boys song a few
minutes later.Signal was fading a bit of times and theywere a few
occasions when both this and even CJMR ethnic "pest"wasn't
audible. But, generally speaking they were the dominant station last night
on my QTH - often peakedvery close to LOCAL-like.
(Chiochiu-QC)

Didn't try for CKBC-1360, altough I should ! The
strongest low-band NYCer that is always LOCAL-like at night seems to be WFAN-660
(but due to it's lower frequency more often completly inaudible during intense
AU activity, than WABC-770 interestingly -I may need some aurora soon
either or some extremely good high-latitude condx, otherwise French Quebecers
and USA talkers all over the AM dial at night). As always, except for very good
nights, domestic DX is rather boring here - so many crowded frequencies, so many
patience to hear stations not that far away. But, some interesting Maritime
Canadians music stations, like CKEC, somespanish domestics, some gospel
singing stations,as well as, very occasionally, even some talkers under
certain circomstances (such as during the September 11 terrorist attacks when
neary everone on the dial had interesting talk-shows)still keep me on the
dials even when Latin American signals are almost non-existent. And still some
domestic signals often behave like Latins - very often WSB is just as strong as
RCR, but of course Atlanta is much farther away(and much more exciting and
challenging) as is WSM in Nashville, TN to hear thana clear/regional pest
in New Englandor Toronto like WPRO-630, CZYR-640, WABC-770 or WBZ-1030
wich covers pretty much all the other interference on their channel in their
direction.

If I tryed to listen before I goed to school today
at 5:45AM up to 7AM (I leave around 7:20), I could perphaps hear some
west-coast domestics. Maybe another day ?

I will try to do some patient listening around
local dawn, just before I leave for school- even with my unaided Sanyo
receiver - maybe I could hear something on clear frequencies (there isn't much
too strong on either 1570 or 1580, so maybe I could bag VOA-1575 ?) and maybe
4QD-1548. After all, Ray Moore in FL has heard trans-Pacific stuff even on
simple equipment (he obviously have a Drake R8B wich is better than my Sanyo,
but only use a loop antenna !). At least I could get some SAH - it may be
something. Obviously, I can forget about Tahiti-738 wich has been logged by
Bruce 2 years ago - you know what CKAC-730 is even without telling about it, but
there is always something interesting in DX'ing and something that lead us to
the limits - see by myself what is the hardest reception possible:mainland
Central AMerican (i.e.: Guatemala, Costa Rica, etc...),deep-South America,
west-coast domestic, trans-atlantic, trans-pacific, trans-polar, long-path,
etc...Everything is possible during the right conditions. With the
equipment I have now I may get some Central Americans and possible some
deeper-SA, but I know TAs and
