[HCDX] Venezuela orders closure of 34 radio stations
Venezuela orders closure of 34 radio stations Submitted by Mohit Joshi on Sat, 08/01/2009 - 02:43. Caracas - Venezuela's leftist government ordered 34 radio stations off the air, accusing them of broadcasting without a proper licence. The stations in question have to cease transmissions, Public Works Minister Diosdado Cabello, who also heads the country's telecommunications regulatory agency, said Friday. The closure orders are an indication of a growing rift between the government of President Hugo Chavez and Venezuela's private media. In total, 240 radio stations are under investigation. Broadcast rights were withdrawn because the operators had either died, failed to update their licences or registrations had expired, Cabello said. The licences could be handed over to so-called community radio stations, which are often operating on a non-profit basis. The decision to pull the plug on the 34 stations came one day after Luisa Ortega Diaz, Venezuela's top prosecutor, suggested toughening the country's media law to regulate the freedom of expression. Under the new law, journalists could be imprisoned for up to four years for publishing harmful information endangering the peace, security and independence of the nation. Information Minister Blanca Eekhout stressed it was essential to regulate the enormous power of the media, and accused international media of pursuing a campaign against Chavez and Venezuela. [HCDX] Venezuela steps up control of television, radio
see pic of my daughter http://zlgr.multiply.com/photos/album/93 Venezuela steps up control of television, radio Thu Jul 9, 2009 2:39pm EDT http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idUSTRE5686HU20090709 CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuela is taking dozens of radio stations off the air and putting stricter rules on cable and satellite television, a minister said on Thursday, part of President Hugo Chavez's battle with private media firms. Disodado Cabello, the public works minister who also oversees Venezuela's broadcasting watchdog, said 154 FM radio stations will be taken off the air and shifted into public hands in what he called democratizing the airwaves. He recently said 86 AM radio stations will also be hit as the government steps up efforts to turn Venezuela into a socialist society. The use of the radio-electric spectrum is one of the few areas where the revolution has not been felt, Cabello said in a presentation to legislators about the need for reform in the sector. Since taking office a decade ago, Chavez has broken up large farms and nationalized important economic sectors including the oil industry. Chavez and his supporters describe their drive to broadcast a pro- government message as a media war with private news companies. Venezuela's media is highly polarized with biased coverage the norm on both government and private networks. The president has vastly expanded the number of publicly owned television and radio stations since he took office in 1999. Some are directly owned or financed by the government, while others are operated by cooperatives and community groups. In 2007 Chavez did not renew the concession for a widely watched critical private TV station RCTV. Cabello also announced plans to apply Venezuelan broadcasting regulations to cable and satellite television stations that produced more than a third of their content in the oil-exporting nation. The new rules for subscription television seemed to be aimed specifically at RCTV, which now broadcasts only on cable. RCTV was Venezuela's most popular television station, watched by millions because of its soap operas. The station was highly critical of Chavez and played an active role in a failed coup against him in 2002. [HCDX] VENEZUELA
Hello ! A loud buzz which was heard during most of the evening on LW and on some spots on MW below 800 along with high-pitched computer QRN on channels such as 780 is keeping me away from the radio dials tonight; so I'm using my free time to ask for a reliable list of ALL THE VENEZUELAN MW STATIONS FOR EACH ESTADO... I had such a list on the walls of my bedroom several years ago, but my parents accidently put it into the garbage... I only heard 6 or 7 states yet using my fairly limited setup and would like to heard at least half of them, since all of 23/24 (depending on how you feel of the Distrito Federal estado) are very slim (though more likely than hearing the whole 50 US states)...

Re: [HCDX] Venezuela on 6180
I don`t have absolute proof this 6180 transmission is via Habana, but it`s obvious all the others are and have always been. I would be very surprised if it is not. I would also be very surprised if Habana or Caracas would confirm the fact. I do recall that Habana once used this frequency, FWIW, which is not much. OTOH it would be interesting if RNV has finally managed to get going a SW transmitter of its own. Does this clash with Amazonia or are they gone by 1000? [HCDX] Venezuela [non]`s new 15250
** VENEZUELA [non]. RNV via Cuba, on new 15250 at 2300 Aug 7. Unlike my first and previous log of this, now it`s an excellent signal, barely a fade, with excellent modulation. 2258 tune-in to open carrier, 2300 opening, greets listeners as ``usuarios y usuarias`` (male users and female users); program previews explained what was going on in Bolivia yesterday: Aug 6 is their national day. Mentioned book by James Hatfield about GWB, ``Nerón del Siglo XXI``. 2303 with E-mail address as internacional @ rnv.gov.ve, web site as http://www.rnv.gov.ve then special program ``La Nueva Historia de Bolivia``, starting with a bit of Evo Morales` speech calling for the elimination of imperialism and neo-liberalism! Then some Bolivian folk music which helped me take a nap. 2341, Apartado 3979 P-mail address, despite many reports that mail bounces from it. // 13680 was quite strong too, roughly equal level with CRI via Canada, slight SAH as they took turns dominating. Never heard any times or frequencies announced, altho they may have done so before the hour was over (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! [HCDX] Venezuela-1110 log
Hello to all of you ! A shorter message this time. This early evening noted WUHN-1110 wich replaced the Spanish domestic in Pittsfield, MA (it was them not the RI one - new here, but it's heard nightly, it's the only time I stuck around for an ID) as well as Radio Carúpano (the only Latin that was reliable). On SW got Argentina and Italy on 6060 strong, but with extreme QRM. Here is the log: 1110 VENEZUELA, YVQT, Radio Carúpano, Carúpano, Sucre SEP 3 2354 - Strong for about 1 minute with sporting event, probably beisbol. Rapid-fire announcer, mention of Barcelona; slightly over WBT. Then both lost to WUHN. At 0001 surfaced again weakly for a few seconds with QRM, and at 0004 slightly stronger than at 0001 with mention of el segundo. + SEP 4 0307 - lively Latin American music, talk incomprehensible, I thought I heard radio Extremely weak to poor, and for a few seconds even atop WBT wich faded out at times (YVQT faded about the same times, but when both comed back, YVQT was slightly atop for a few seconds). WBT had talk about the evacuation of the Katrina's victims. Also heard was a report from a meteorolog in Colorado who said the Hurricane season didn't even officially begun, and that 6 more Hurricanes will come through until November when the season ends. Then into Coast to Coast talkshow w/ Gypsy Kings intro and with the announcer criticating George W Bush. Taped the 0307 receptions. Maybe tomorrow or Monday, I will encode them in real-audio. (Chiochiu-QC) 6060 ARGENTINA and unID SEP 3 2330 - Tango + man in SP with sports talk (heard a mention of campionado). Parallel 15345 not audible, because the Sangean radio is less sensitive above 8 or 9 MHz than on the tropical and lower international bands. Was mixing with woman talk (couldn't ID the language of the second signal because of poor signal and QRM). Second signal not // 6030, so maybe Italy. Poor signals from both w/ splatter from Family Radio 6065. By 2344, it become impossible to hear at all, because Family Radio improoved too much. (Chiochiu-QC) Sanyo MCD-S830 AM/FM portable with ferrite bar antenna Sangean CST-818 w/ over 10 meters of long-wire in our interior yard QTH: Pierrefonds (Montreal's West Island), QC I'm going to try to reinstall the Quantum loop to my Sangean radio and try to find a cord for encoding the WBT/YVQT reception in real-audio tomorrow, I think. For instance, that's it for now ! I'm gonna try to DX again for a few minutes then have some needed sleep. [HCDX] Venezuela barely back via Cuba
** VENEZUELA [non]. I listened carefully to the reactivated RNV relay via Cuba, Sept 5 at 1900 on 13740, still giving its defunct Apartado 3979 address, and then announcing its full schedule, which is different than before, and all times given in UT, with the times seemingly correct for a change: 1900-2000 13740 San Francisco 2000-2100 9550 Caribe 2000-2100 13680 Chicago 2000-2100 15230 Buenos Aires 2000-2100 17705 Rio de Janeiro 2100-2200 11875 Santiago de Chile 2300- 9820 y 13680 Chicago 2300- 11760 Norte, Centro y Sud-América Note they no longer mention a broadcast to Wáshington on 6000. That and other outdated/incorrect info still appears on the RNV website, in unspecified local times. Just disregard that and hope no one else posts or publishes the don`t-you-believe RNV schedule from its own website. I kept checking and at 2000 when four frequencies are supposed to be on, I could only hear 15230, poorly, tho reportedly it is strong in South America. Nothing audible on 9550 or 13680, and 17705 as always blocked by the super-signal of Greece via Delano. At 2100, 11875 was inaudible [tho recently reported from Spain as if it were RHC]. I also checked for the 2000 frequencies during the 2100 and 2200 hours, just in case. And the 2100 and 2300 frequencies during the 2200 hour, but nothing. During the 2300 hour, none of the frequencies heard either, except 13680 --- which is actually occupied by CRI English via Sackville \\ 6145. But, unless it gets wiped out again by Ivan, expect more of the Venezuela relays via Cuba to come back, as well as China relays, and RHC itself. BTW, a quick check of 11760, 13680, 13750, 15230, earlier after 1400 UT this Sunday did not turn up any Aló Presidente (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ___ Do you Yahoo!? [HCDX] Venezuela
Venezuela (relayed from Cuba,) 13740, Radio Nacional Venezuela, 1900-2000 A program of news and features in the Spanish Language and ID. Signal was very fading considering it being xmitted from Cuba. I felt I must be in the skip zone. (Chuck Bolland, July 29, 2004, Clewiston Florida, NRD545, Dipole) ---[Start Commercial]- World Radio TV Handbook 2004 is out! Hello ! I get a trace of a second station on 640, mixing with WNNZ as early as 3:30 PM, might this be Union Radio-Venezuela or a domestic talker (I cannot really understand the language, due to WNNZ). Too much interferences to understand much... Conditions look pretty good and there is already skip at this early hour wich didn't happen at all this season due to solar activity.
