** ALGERIA [non]. 7295, Oct 13 at 0517, Qur`an with heavy flutter from
Issoudun, FRANCE site, while other transmitter on 9535 attained only a JBA
carrier. Other reports say they are no longer // (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** BULGARIA. QSL from KBC Radio, 9400: apparently there was a problem with my
original upload of this. Try it now:
http://www.w4uvh.net/KBC9400.doc
You may need to use Open Office writer to see the grafix. This reminds us that
another test to North America is coming not this weekend, but UT Sunday Oct 21
at 0000-0200 via Bulgaria on 9500 instead (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CANADA. 1610, Oct 13 at 0535 UT, Spanish music from NE/SW, ``la mejor
m?sica``. Must be CHHA Toronto, and coming in much better than usual (which is
often: not at all). For a change I do not hear any IBOC noise from 1600 KATZ St
Louis MO in the same direxion, which is a big help. Turned it off or long fade?
[At same time I am monitoring another Canadian[?] on 6925: see NORTH AMERICA.]

0537 fade-up with ``La Bamba``; 0545 quick CHHA ID in English! Then Spanish
with e-mail partially: ``arroba 1610.am`` and ``Voces Latinas, La voz de la
comunidad``. 0547 plug advertising on station, phone 702-2953 for sales;
another phone with 416-AC. Still going at last check 0610, but now IBOC QRM is
back (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. 6175, Oct 13 at 0514, Sackville stuck here again tonight for VOV
relay, Vietnamese music, instead of correct 9555 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHILE [non?]. Horacio Nigro, Uruguay, passed on this news to the DXLD yg at
2234 UT October 12: ``Chile 12365U Radio Cooperativa, Santiago with FIFA soccer
Ecuador vs. Chile right now. UNID relaying Radio Cooperativa, Santiago with
soccer FIFA match Ecuador vs Chile. (DXers Marcos Cox, Luis Valderas and others
in FB via Horacio Nigro, Uruguay, Oct 12)``

I checked it ASAP and replied: ``Coming in well here at 2245 Oct 12 with quick
CODAR pulse interference. Coastal stations around Australia may not be too
pleased. Glenn, OK``

This was based on the 2002 Klingenfuss Shortwave Frequency Guide book, showing
on 12365: VIB Brisbane Radio, VID Darwin, VIM Melbourne, VIP Perth, VIT
Townsville. And also a general entry which Wolfgang B?schel pointed out:

``Frequency: 12365,0 [kHz]
Call: worldwide
Station: ship stations simplex freq.
Country:
Modulation: SSB``

``Glenn, Could you hear any soccer, after all? Others DX-friends elsewhere
report no sportive broadcast. But some traffic instead. Maybe the match ended
before they began tuning the frequency. I am not currently listening to the SW.
I was simply relaying the info. 73 Horacio Nigro, Uruguay``

``I only had time to check it very briefly, hearing a broadcast conversation in
Spanish, but not what it was about. At least I heard no gooooooal. Glenn``

Next check after 0100 Oct 13, it was no longer heard. Certainly a frequency
worth further checking. Ahh, for the good ole days, when R. Cooperativa was a
constant and intentional AM SWBC station, 9630? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CHINA. Firedrake October 13:
7445, fair at 1317 in mix with CNR1 echo jamming, RTI, etc.
9680, also tried to detect FD, but not at 1317, in mix of RRI and China radio
war. No complete search but likely fruitless above 12 MHz where very few
signals were propagating (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CROATIA [non]. 7375, Oct 13 at 0211, V. of Croatia via Wertachtal, GERMANY,
English segment, after news, the weather for Croatia. YL has American accent
but Croatian surname; 0212 recap top stories; 0212.6 transmission info starting
with satellite, MW, finally generic SW mentioning all frequencies regardless of
times, none given; 0213.75 back to music. During the talk there was a
``hollow`` sound, i.e. the two transmitters very very slightly unsynchronized,
(and/or the offbeam signal getting an extra bouncearound) but not enough to be
a nuisance or impediment to comprehension (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** GUIANA FRENCH. 9374 & 9606, TDF Montsin?ry is still radiating distorted
hummy FMy spurs, 116 kHz each side of the 9490 transmitter carrying Radio
Rep?blica via RMI, also with enough modulation audible on the spurs to make a
definite match to jammed 9490. Upper one again bothered Vatican Spanish via
Bonaire on 9610. Hmm, desperate Cubans should try the spurs if 9490 is blocked
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 650, Oct 13 at 1200 UT, full ID for XHTNT 106.5, Radio 65, Grupo
Ch?vez, and also mentioned ``Radio K`` in passing, so the Radio K that I heard
before was definitely XETNT Los Mochis, Sinaloa (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 780, Oct 13 at 1202 UT, KSPI Oklahoma is kindly cooperating by not
modulating its carrier, so I can catch this: ``10,000 watts, Monclova``
mentioned, so per Cant? it is:
780 XEWGR Exa FM + FM 101.1 Monclova, Coah. 10,000 250
Lacking anything that definite but ``Exa FM`` ID could also have been:
780 XEZN Exa FM + FM 104.5 Celaya, Gto. 5,000 1,000
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 850, Oct 13 at 0602 UT, news quoting el gobernador de Coahuila,
mentions Torre?n, but there is no 850 in that state, and this is national news
about the drug lord being killed and then kidnapped; loops WSW and even
overrides KOA which has faded down or taken down by auroral. Very likely the
usual one I hear, per Cant?:
850 XEM Milenio Radio + FM 103.7 Chihuahua, Chih. 5,000 500
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 960, UT Saturday Oct 13 at 0500, local KGWA Enid provides another
Fox-hole (could there be others at different hourtops? I need to check). During
the pentaminute of dead air, manipulating the DX-398 to null the remaining very
strong carrier as much as possible, this time the main inhabitant of 960 is
Mexican music; lyrix seemed to mention ``Lupe``, rather than being a slogan ID.
Prime suspect XEK Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas.

Based on proximity, number two possibility would be XEKS in Saltillo, Coahuila
but Cant? shows its night power only 100 watts. Based on frequent reception
area, and more toward the KGWA null, #3 would be XEIQ Cd. Obreg?n, Sonora, 500
watts. Based on highest night power, #4 would be XEHK Guadalajara, Jalisco,
2500 watts. Now, how about someone voicing a real ID during this window? It
must radiate after 0500:00 and before 0505:00 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** MOROCCO [and non]. 9579.12, Oct 13 at 0112, M?di Un, Nador transmitter is
still malfunxioning, far off frequency from 9575, and producing an 880 Hz
(A-note) het against the 9580 station which at this hour is CRI English via
Cuba. After 0200, when CRI had switched to Chinese, the het was still audible
but not as strong, altho CRI parameters remain the same per HFCC, 250 kW at 10
degrees. And the other Nador transmitter, for IGIM on 15349.1, remains totally
unheard at numerous chex in the daytime (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6925-AM, UT Sat Oct 13 at 0519, pirate music audible, with a
pumping sound, but that`s on the original, not a transmission or propagation
problem. 0523 ID break but during fade, could not copy; then ``Lola`` (by the
Kinks?); 0533 ``The music makes the difference`` again missing the full ID,
then ``Rose Garden`` by Lynn Anderson. [Meanwhile I am distracted by much
better signal than usual from CHHA 1610 Toronto, trying to listen to both; see
CANADA.]

0537 ``The Edmund Fitzgerald`` by Gordon Lightfoot [could this pirate also be
Canadian? Allegedly]. 0542 partial ID copied; 0547 finally full ID: ``Radio
Trans-America, relayed by Radio True North; from somewhere on Planet Earth,
this is Radio Trans-America`` by robotic YL voice. 0548 ``Green Onions`` by
Booker T and the MGs; 0552 segu? to ``Slow Ride``, by The Eagles?, ``take it
easy``. 0555 another segu? to YL singer, unrecognized; 0558 same ID as above,
``Fire``. Still going past 0600; 0611 another canned ID and I should add that
it includes some neat electronic sounds; I quit at 0611 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 780, Saturday Oct 13 at 1157 UT, KSPI Stillwater is in open
carrier/dead air. At least I haven`t noted this daytimer lately in the
nightmiddle (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 960, UT Saturday Oct 13 at 0500, KGWA provides another
Fox-hole (could there be others at different hourtops? I need to check). See
MEXICO, but no ID (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 17625, Oct 13 at 1333, big humbuzz upon poor signal in Arabic
talk, as BSKSA manages to penetrate from afar, while the only bigsigs on 16 and
19m were from Cuba. This is 500 kW, 100 degrees from Riyadh, while the
duplicate and unhummy HQS on 17615 at 190 degrees could not be heard today
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TUNISIA. 7335, Oct 13 at 0612, IWT is on and // 7275 with Arabic music and
announcements. I`m seldom up late enough to hear 7335 during DST, which does
not start until about 0600 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1638 monitoring: on Area 51 via WBCQ 5110v-CUSB: AWWW
finished around 0116 and announced the three frequencies re-splitting to
separate programming: on 9330 GFRN, 7490 BS and 5110 Area 51. Music fill
ensued, and WOR 1638 started a bit early at 0128.5. Fair reception here vs
T-storm noise elsewhere in OK, KS.

Next plays:
Saturday 1630 on HLR 7265 (presumably, got no confirmation last week)
Saturday 1730 on WRMI 9955 and WRN via SiriusXM channel 120
UT Sunday 0400 on WTWW 5745
Sunday 0800, 1530, 1730, Monday 0500, Tuesday 1100 on WRMI 9955
Sunday 0800, 1730 also on WRN via SiriusXM 120
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. 12105, Sat Oct 13 at 1402-1407+, fast SAH and CCI from two
poor signals, one in Chinese, one in Arabic, i.e. KSDA GUAM and WTWW
respectively, which the FCC saw fit to assign to the same frequency at the same
time. WTWW probably on early this Saturday following Saturday-only Russian
until 1400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7506.4, Oct 13 at 0108 check, no signal from WRNO. This is a great
improvement, since when on the air, they were unable to modulate fully and/or
free of extreme distortion. Maybe someone in Fort Worth finally turned on a
radio and heard how awful their own station sounded? It was also absent the
previous night just before usual 0400* (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 630, Oct 13 at 0558 UT, anti-Obama commentary, 0559 ``KSLR.com, AM
620, The Word in South Texas, San Antonio, Salem Communications``. Promos for
programs at other times. Being a gospel huxter, it was first assumed to be KJSL
Saint Louis MO. It and KHOW Denver usually dominate the frequency, but nothing
from them at the moment. Conditions may be somewhat auroral. KSLR is
5000/4300/PSRA 500 watts, per NRC AM Log.

NRC Pattern Book shows KSLR at night has null to the SW (Monterrey), so most of
signal goes northward, while daytime also nulls XEFB, but spurts out instead to
its sides, WSW and SSE with big nulls also northward, especially toward St
Louis and Denver.

This looks the opposite of what ought to be called for, day vs night, so I
check day and night patterns at FCC AM Query: Sure enough, they are reversed in
the 2006Y NRC PB, so the dotted lines for San Antonio 630 should be solid, and
the solid line should be dotted.
Here`s the real day pattern:
http://transition.fcc.gov/ftp/Bureaus/MB/Databases/AM_DA_patterns/175125-24652.pdf
which matches the `night` pattern in the book.
And here`s the real night pattern:
http://transition.fcc.gov/ftp/Bureaus/MB/Databases/AM_DA_patterns/282725-1949.pdf
which matches the `day` pattern in the book. I trust this will be fixed in the
new edition under preparation, and that there were not too many other such
reversals in the old one, but be on the lookout (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 800, Oct 13 at 1152 UT, the distorted-Donald-Duck transmitter is
detectable under KQCV and XEROK, so it is on the air before 1200, presumably
one of two stations in NE Mexico (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 15739-SSB, Oct 13 at 1358, 2-way in colloquial Spanish,
narcotraffickers or poachers? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Again, I'm organising a *pirate radio event* when most of the *European *
and *American pirate *operators will be on air with their stations, playing
*music*, sending *greetings *to listeners and having *fun*! The *pirate
radio weekend* will take place on the *26th and 27th October (Friday and
Saturday)*, as well as on the Sunday morning. I would like as many stations
as possible to take part in it.

If you would like to take part in it, just tell me your frequency and time
of transmitting, as well as your power and send them to my email:
georgi.ban...@gmail.com ! Thanks in advance.

FRANCE Noted TDA programs at 0535 UT Oct 13:
7295 HQ prayer, S=9+25dB proper signal.
9535 undermodulated in peaks S=8-9, 162 degrees antenna doesn't cover area
around France Europe well !

At 0557 UT station and frequ annmt in Arabic by female on 7295 kHz,
{but 9535 kHz continued to be HQ prayer program ... }
7295 kHz TX switched OFF around 07.57:10 UT.

At 05.58:05 UT 9535 kHz TX CUT OFF tambien.

At 05.59:09 UT 9535 kHz TDA program TX ON AIR again, but new antenna at
194 degrees, and much stronger signal at S=9+20dB level.

Time pips at 0600 UT, station ID in Arabic by female. News in Arabic read by
male and female.

GREECE 11645 kHz send out different program at 0500-0600 UT Oct 13, heard
Radio Filia annmt at 0531 UT, and continued at 0532 UT on R Filia's German
language service at S=9+20dB proper signal level, despite African azimuth
antenna of 182 degrees is in use at this time, but antenna in Avlis has a
big BACK-LOBE outlet though.

At 0600 UT all three outlets on //, Voice of Greece service in Greek 9420
which was signal weaker than both 11645 and 15630 kHz.

ad long ad string stretched to 1016. At 1020 signal now quite good and
seemed regional news or mensajes, OM mentions ??en la ciudad de
Huancavelica . . .? followed by an apparent phone-ins interview with
a higher-voiced guy (or YL?). More telephone call-ins followed. At
1030 orchl theme and OM talkover, could have been prayer or ad.
Locutor has a great deep bass voice, wonderful ?pipes? for the radio,
hi. Faded down a bit so left this at 1033 to look for more OA
treasures on the bands. Never got a 100% ID but everything else fits
like a glove . . . also, this measured fqy is certainly part of the
DNA for this specific Peruvian. (Perry ? Illinois)

PERU ? 4955.00, Radio Cultural Amauta, Huanta, gorgeous signal 10/3 at
1038 tune-in. Clear signal, S-9, inspirational mx featuring OA YL
with very high voice, sing-talking over western orchl mx. 1039 OM
ancr, ??Son las cinco de la manana y 39 minutos en Radio Cultural
Amauta . . .? Continued in lengthy sermonish spiel, mentioning for
instance ? . . . gracias, Nuestro Senor . . .?. Congrats to RCA for
their technical achievement: not only are they spot-on their nominal
fqy, they are also pouring in most mornings with one of the top two or
three signals out of the Andes! (Perry ? Illinois)

PERU ? 5039.10, Radio Libertad de Junin, noted 10/3 (and nearly EVERY
morning) at 1044 tune-in, OM with ID-t/ck at what seemed to be end of
national news pgm. Into pgm of musica folklorica at 1045 with arpa
and guitar huayno, with YL singing assumed QQ. Very nice signal. One
of the most reliable of all the remaining Peruvians on the air,
probably second to only Radio Tarma 4775 in the mornings. (Perry ?
Illinois)

PERU ? 5120.01p, Radio ?Ondas del Suroriente?, Quillabamba, presumed
the Peruvian here on 10/3 at 1047 check when heard Peruvian arpa
huayno in progress. At 1048, very boomy voiced OM in SS, very
difficult to read. At 1050, into more OA folklorico pgming. Have
heard morning broadcasts out of Ondas del Suroriente here last winter.
Seems to sign on kinda late, propagationally, like 1045 or so, just
sneaking-in before the current bottom falls out on the USA/Andes
morning path around 1100++. Should be better soon, as the morning
openings lengthen as the season progresses. (Perry ? Illinois)

ECUADOR ? 4814.98, tentatively Radio El Buen Pastor, Saraguro, hrd for
first time in a while, 10/3 at 1052 tune-by when noted choral duo
harmonizing along with country-style guitar. At 1054, very
bassy-voiced deejay in SS, too muffled to read, but this was followed
by religious chorale at 1057. Signal fading down fast and nearly gone
by 1100. Good to know that this one is still around. (Perry ?
Illinois)

ECUADOR ? 4781.57, Radio Oriental, Tena, noted 10/2 with poor signal
at 2330 tune in, only traces at this point, Fading up to decent
readability by 2342, when OM vocalizing sentimental ballad with flute
arrangement accompanying. 2346 OM SS en eco anmts, f/by strummed
guitar music and, at 2349, schmaltzy violin + piano mx. 2352 very
bassy-voiced deejay f/by HC melodia, guitars and OM. At 2356, pretty
plucked acoustic guitar but smashed by brief RTTY bursts which seem
right on top of this fqy. Pgming and carrier seemed to disappear
around 0002*, at least, that?s when I was finally certain I could no
longer tease any pgming out of the ether! (Perry ? Illinois)

PAPUA NEW GUINEA ? 10/2 was an interesting morning for PNG, with
strong signals from several stations among many which showed up. In
general, PNG as heard here in Central USA follows patter of traces of
carriers by 1100, full fade-in by 1130, peaks around 1145. Fading out
past TOH, and noise coming up due to local daybreak in Chicago area.

3385, R. East New Britain, Rabaul, noted 1135 with pop vocals, live OM
DJ in EE at 1142. Nice signal but a big muffled. Disco-like music at
1146 and then a reggae-like rap song at 1152.
3365, NBC Milne Bay, Alotau, weak
3315, NBC Manus, Lorengau, fair signal 1150
3345, 3325 and 3275 ? not noted
3260, NBC Madang, best PNG on the band for me, just beautiful signal
at 1155 check.
3235, Radio West New Britain, medium signal peaks to strong by 1135,
one of best on the band.
3205, NBC Sandaun, Vanimo, W Sepik, fair signal during this window.
(Perry ? Illinois)

MYANMAR ? 7110, Thazin Radio (or whatever this is, at this time, I
can?t keep it straight! Hi) absolutely pinning the S-meter at 1201 on
10/2, as we heard last year, they love to play local Burmese ?covers?
of old US pops. Today recognized ?Total Eclipse of the Heart? and
others like this. YL ancr. Signal very nice still at 1215.
Delightful programming and should be there for us, nearly every
morning, this winter season. Also fair signal 5985.86 presumed
Myanmar at same time. (Perry ? Illinois)

ECUADOR ? 4781.70, Radio Oriental, Tena, sat on this fqy from 1055 on
10/4 and was rewarded with abrupt *1058 with catchy, upbeat HC
instrumental music, signal quite surprisingly nice, and than a canned
opening ID anmts by OM in SS at 1100, including fqys and ?Radio
Oriental?. Dead air 1101 as perhaps live locutora asleep at the
wheel . She finally started a minute later, but with signal?s
modulation much, much lower than the previous recorded anmt. Into
typical pgming of canned ads en eco, time checks, OM & YL apparent
morning news chat. Left it at 1112 with faded signal too frustrating
to stay with. (Perry ? Illinois)

BRAZIL ? 4865.02, Radio Verdes Florestas, Cruz do Sul, very strong
lately and a nice signal on 10/4 0935 past 0945 and again at 1017
recheck when in morning news show with 2 ancrs. Tuned in 0935 and
programming already in progress, so believe signed on nominally 0930,
as checked a few minutes just before that time and nothing was on the
fqy. Programming to TOH was mainly PP ballads. Good ID 0945 when
locator gave fqys, also. Bassy and booming canned ID, but then
low-talking live ancr followed. This one often heard well past other
Brazilians having faded out, due to QTH in far western Brazil.
Seekers of CP Radio Logos, pls note! (Perry ? Illinois)

BOLIVIA ? 6134.82, Radio Santa Cruz, Sta. Cruz de la Sierra, 0950 on
10/4 tune-by noted with huge signal. Locutor saying ?5 de la manana,
las cinco de la manana y 50 minutos . . . muy buenos dias, amables
oyentes. Muy Buenos dias, Santa Cruz y todo Bolivia . . .? Burst of
CP folkloric music, then more anmts and finally into music. Usual het
but also atmospheric noise and t-storm static crashes hampering.
(Perry ? Illinois)

PERU ? 4774. 96, Radio Tarma, Tarma, usual brilliant signal 1009 check
on 10/4, with usual morning OA folklorico pgm. YL huayno w/ arpa and
plucked bass of guitar. Music cranked down and then deejay talks over
with quickie t/cks, MBDs, etc. Not there a few minutes earlier when
sweeping band, so probably signed on a little later than nominal
*1000. Consistently the best Peruvian signal on 60 meters in the
morning. (Perry ? Illinois)

PERU ? 4747.09, Radio Huanta 2000, noted with only fair-good signal
1015 on 10/4, after going missing the previous day, which had been,
propagationally, a banner opening into the Andes. (Perry ? Illinois)

BRAZIL ? Rdif. Roraima, noted with excellent power tho usual buzzy
distorted signal at 0905 on 10/4, PP discussion between two men who
were laughing, joking around. 0909 clear mention of ?Roraima? and
still strong at 0926 recheck, tho deeply in that mushy, spurious
noise. Their engineering staff needs to fix this already, hi. (Perry
? Illinois)

BRAZIL ? 4785.00, Unid Brazilian noted 0912 past 1000 on 10/4, fading
up to very decent signal but no ID, likely either R. Caiari , Porto
Velho (formerly on 4785.1) or R. Brasil, Campinas (formerly on
4784.5-4784.01). OM with many cheery ?MBD!?s plus sound of rooster
crowing at 0925, amidst pgm of ranchera-like country music. Tho fair
signal, lots of atmospheric noise and t-storm static, making it hard
to copy anmts. (Perry ? Illinois)

BRAZIL ? 4965.10, another Unid Brazilian spotted 10/4 at 0925 with
fair signal and nondescript music. 0930 OM PP anmts. 0934 fanfare
and talk show continuing. Radio Alvorada, Parintins, used to be here,
perhaps them. (Perry ? Illinois)
