Aoki and HFCC show Belaruskaye Radio 1 at 0400-0700, 250 kW, 72 degrees from Minsk-Kalodzicy (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CHINA. Firedrake April 16 after 0500: I had left the FRG-7 on 13m when last used in the afternoon, so turned back on at 0521, I may as well scan that band in case there is anything propagating in the spring nightmiddle. And there is! 21710, very poor at 0521, Firedrake definitely here. It`s the OSOB, and there must be an appropriate target, per HFCC, IBB Mandarin via TINIAN at 05-06 only. These are usually jammed by CNR1 modulation instead. See also separate log below. Firedrake April 16 before 1300: 13820, fair at 1246 under Mart?/Greenville open carrier; good at 1249 as GB is off again prior to 1300 transmission 13795, poor at 1246 14800, good at 1251 15560, poor at 1252, het on hi side 16160, good at 1255 with flutter 16250, very good at 1255 16920, very good at 1256 16980, very poor at 1256 17250, poor at 1257 17370, good at 1257; none in the 18s Firedrake April 16 before 1400: 13795, very poor at 1357 13970, very good at 1357 14700, very good at 1357 14800, very good at 1357 14980, poor at 1357 15570, good at 1357 with noise jamming too 15610, good at 1357 mixed with WEWN 15970, very good at 1357 16920, good at 1359; ran out of time before checking the 17s (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CHINA [and non]. 17855, April 16 at 0527, after getting Firedrake on 21710, expect 16m to be open, and here`s Chinese, interview, sounds like RFA SAIPAN rather than CNR1. 15615, April 16 at 0529, however, another RFA frequency via TINIAN, suffers jamming by tones and multiple Chinese audio CNR1 echo (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also EAST TURKISTAN ** CHINA. 11712 & 11728, April 16 at 1241, obvious 8-kHz spurs from the 11720 CNR1 jammer, making equal-pitch hets against 11710 N Korea and something on 11730; also on 11736, etc. At 1302, now there`s a 2-kHz het against 11750 RHC from 11752 spur out of 11760 transmitter; also on 11776, etc. Wolfgang B?schel is also hearing the 8-kHz constellation around 11760 again after 1700 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA [and non]. 9490, April 16 at 1235, pulse jamming vs VOA Korean via TINIAN, the Cuban Commies helping out their very good friend KJU, since they already have the 9490 jamming set up for R. Rep?blica which is in axion only at 00-02 UT. 15200-15260, April 16 at 1253, approx. extent of buzz noise out of defective RHC 15230 transmitter; worst/best circa 15220 in a clear spot (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** EAST TURKISTAN. 15665 & 15445, April 16 at 0529, poor signals in Russian, no doubt CRI as scheduled via Kashgar, both on the countless 308-degree antennas there (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** GREECE. 9420, April 16 at 0544, no signal from V. of Greece, must be off. Music audible on poor 15630 however, and non // talk on 11645 which must be in the R. Filia service at this hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** GUAM. 13362-USB, April 16 at 0532, AFN with news about Boston, promo for AFN sports; poor but almost sufficient (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** INDONESIA. 9526-, April 16 at 1334, it`s Tuesday, so I remember to check VOI English for `Exotic Indonesia` hookup with RRI Banjarmasin: yes, YL mentioning Banj several times, with music background and music pauses. Sigh, even tho there is NO QRM now, copy is too tough, with the flutter fading louder than the undermodulation; 1339 on to conversation, 1343 music, 1350 more conversation, 1351 music. At least I don`t hear any IADs. As usual, the RRI ``domestic`` service on 9680 has much better modulation and signal without the flutter, managing to stay somewhat atop the pileup of QRM from Taiwan, ChiCom jamming, and maybe even KNLS as per some of its schedule versions, if they are stupid enough to adhere (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** IRAN. 21650, April 16 at 1259, VIRI`s IS, very poor and off by 1300*, i.e. end of Chinese hour officially at 1200-1257, 500 kW, 65 degrees from Kamalabad. I wonder if the edgy ChiCom will jam even this? Here the QRM was local, that noise which comes on 21550 upward, and during this hour also with beeps/pulses averaging 13 per minute (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** OKLAHOMA. 1120, April 15 at 1727-1730+ UT, KEOR is off again, checking on caradio. April 16 at 1612, is back on with usual alabanza m?sica, checking on DX-398 in the yard (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** PERU [and non]. 5980, April 16 at 0053, R. Chaski carrier quite detectable despite noise level, and heavy splash from 5990 CRI CUBA --- which ran way overtime, switching to English at 0100, still on past 0102. Chaski cut off at 0103:33* i.e. 10 sex later than two nites ago as I missed checking on April 15 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** RUSSIA [and non]. 12070, April 16 at 0535, collision of almost equal signals in Russian and Portuguese, i.e. per Aoki, DW due south from RWANDA, and R. Rossii, Moskva-Taldom at 267 degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** SPAIN [and non]. 5995, April 16 at 0548, REE COSTA RICA relay again on wrong frequency instead of 5965 which is supposed to be used after 0400; W&W in Castilian discussing jackets and pants. 13715-13725, April 16 at 1247 noise; is it jamming or DRM? weak vs CODAR. HFCC shows REE Noblejas 13720 DRM at 1100-1300, 250 kW non-direxional; really at full power? 11910, April 16 at 1355, REE Spanish relay via Beijing to Philippines, is already over with IS playing (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A [non]. 7575, April 16 at 1227, VOA 18 degrees from THAILAND, also USward with good signal, `Crossroads Asia` concluding with news that the first and second place winners of their photo contest are both from Bangladesh. These and 16 others are here: http://www.voanews.com/content/voa-photo-contest-winners/1642170.html A slide show I highly recommend. 1230 on to `International Edition` about topic-B (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 770, April 16 at 1214 UT, going from Beatles` ``Wanna Hold Your Haa`aa`aa`nd`` to DJ ID as ``Seven-seven``, to Dolly Parton; loops NNW/SSE, and at 1222 ad with a 972-area code, i.e. Dallas, so surely KAAM, COL Garland, address in Irving, and NRC AM Log says ``Legends 77``, but all I heard twice as a non-ID was ``seven-seven`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 900, April 16 at 1210 UT, ad for Northern Arkansas Regional Medical Center, on ``AM 900 KHOZ`` and another Harrison ad, its town (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 930, April 16 at 1209 UT, with WKY nulled, sounds like ``KWST Morning Edition``, mentions Cape Girardeau. It`s really KWOC Poplar Bluff MO. Detailed program schedule http://kwoc2.mrrinteractive.com/talk-radio-programs/ confirms title ``KWOC Morning Edition`` at 6-8 am CDT containing numerous capsules including far-right huxters (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 960, April 16 at 0501 UT during KGWA Fox-hole of dead air, ABC News as usual mainly heard, from KGKL San Angelo TX, but by 0503 some other English news is mixing in, with an ID in passing after 0504 as WSBT --- that`s Sound Bend IN, so rack up another one logged under my local. 5/5 kW U4 which means direxional day & nite with different patterns. Fortunate propagation, or out of whack like KGKL? I also had a possible log of WSBT with Fox News last October 15. Ha, FCC nite map of WSBT http://transition.fcc.gov/ftp/Bureaus/MB/Databases/AM_DA_patterns/305736-3933.pdf shows huge lobe just west of due north, and tiny, tiny lobes in all other direxions. Day pattern has similar lobe to north, but equally to the S, pulled in toward Enid but not a deep null: http://transition.fcc.gov/ftp/Bureaus/MB/Databases/AM_DA_patterns/305736-3932.pdf (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 1360, April 16 at 1159 UT, ``go to KPSQ1360.com`` ? -- must really be KPXQ, Glendale AZ, 50/1 kW U2, PSRA 0.5. Should be on nite power now, and certainly weak enough, briefly atop (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** VATICAN. 11650, April 16 at 0541, R. Dabanga, frequent sung IDs, with het on lo side, jamming? Zacharias Liangas had also heard this on 12160, but not audible here. Mauno Ritola suggested that could be a leapfrog mixing product over another Vatican transmitter on 11905, and Wolfgang B?schel agrees, additional 255 kHz higher over VOA Kurdish relay at 05-06, and another one could appear on 11395. I could hear something on 11905, but just CODAR sweeping across 12160 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Wed, 17 Apr 2013 18:35:57 +1200 From: "Radio Heritage Mail" <i...@radioheritage.net> To: i...@radioheritage.net Subject: [HCDX] Come over and join us today Message-ID: <380-22013431763557...@radioheritage.net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Radio Heritage Foundation www.radioheritage.com April 17 2013 Hello! In many African countries Zimbabwe included radio is the most important medium of communication and communities rely on it to keep themselves informed on news, local and international events. Low literacy levels and poor newspaper circulation makes dependence on newspapers negligible. The cost of a television set is beyond the reach of the majority, as many people live on less than a US$1 a day. Poor infrastructure is also another reason why people depend on solar powered radios as most rural areas have not been electrified. On the 19th of February 2013 ,police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba told a news conference in Harare that possession and distribution of solar powered Short wave radios was illegal. She accused some opposition parties of distributing the ?illegal devices? to unsuspecting members of the public with the intention ?to sow seeds of disharmony within the country especially now that the country is about to embark on the referendum and harmonised elections.? What followed was a series of raids on civic society organisations. End of Hard-Core-DX Digest, Vol 124, Issue 17 *********************************************
