Re: [H] APC Question?

2009-12-15 Thread Mark
Yes that is what I meant, if with the different ups there is a problem
then perhaps you need to use a DSL filter when plugging the phone line
into it, just as you would with any other electronic device that the
phone line is plugged in to. May not be but justca thought.

Thanks Mark,
Don't understand the question.
If you mean the DSL Filter in the phone plug; NO.
That filter works fine anywhere in the house.
Even so, in/out, this UPS blocks PHONE/DATA/?.
Thanks. Good thought. Not yet.

Duncan

Have you checked to see if it was a DSL filter issue?

I use APC ups's. Always have. Always will.
Just bought 2 RS-series 1500VA BackUps (LCD). They were built in
the Philipines.
Seems to me that APS is still confused about their XS series and
their RS series. At least from all the past and present research I
have done.

One of my new RS series BackUps's (Philipines) PHONE filter
interfaces is broken. Odd because the RS series premium over the
XS series is the PHONE/DATA/? filter.
The phone jacks of the PHONE/DATA/? interface both appear to be
RJ31/RJ45 size. I suppose this is for commercial/business class
PHONE/DATA/? wiring. OK. SUX that I do NOT have same!! LOL!

If I try to plug in my normal RJ11 home-type PHONE plugs, I start
loosing my phone line/xdsl/internet connections. Hmmm.
This is proved because my phone line/xdxl/internet connection is
now running thru an RJ11 cable connector (small white plastic
block with an RJ11 female connector in each end; wired 11).

Not likely I will attempt an RMA with newegg. Shipping costs
Other than this small ???, this new ups is full active and works
well. really like the LCD display!
Besides, I can still swap it with an older RS-1500 (India) whose
PHONE/DATA/? interface connectors (logic) DO WORK! Even though my
research says this interface is NOT operable!

Confused I remain. But, I remain a loyal APC customer.
Just sharing recent observations. :)

Might there be some RJ11--RJ31/45 converters?
No. I have not looked yet. Never supposed I'd ever have to! LOL!

Duncan

Duncan, are you saying you have one of the whole house filters,
and then run clean lines to the DSL (if you use DSL?)

The general ?(simple)? way is a filter at each phone or non-computer device.

I wired my house different, WITH a whole house filter, as above.
That way, none of my phones needed their own filter.

With FIOS, that went by the wayside, at least here.

Rick,
No. I do not have a whole house filter. I use the dsl filters that
came with the dsl modem on those house phone jacks that have telephones
connected. And, I have a special dsl filter I bought for my home's
security system. This could have been overkill because the security
system has its' own dedicated line to the out-door phone company ?magic
box?. :)

I may see fiber-to-the-house in 3-5yrs as my electric supplier rolls out
their version of FIOS(?). That may be when I finally cancel dsl and
POTS altogether.

Best,
Duncan

Re: [H] APC Question?

2009-12-15 Thread Rick Glazier

Filtering the entire house requires new clean lines to the DSL modem.
That was easy for me, but is un-common...

Unless your security system has a completely different phone line and number
it would still need a filter in your situation.

Sorry I was no help.

Re: [H] Freeze up

Wow64 could be a reference to a 64bit ASPI Layer or some video codec (both aka spyware), but most likely it comes from surfing by an already infected internet site (aka
trojan/spyware). Nothing you can do about this, unfortunately, except making Firefox with NoScript a strict home computing policy in the future.

To preserve the files on the drive, you are welcome to email me privately (see email header for reference), and I'll do what I can to help you out for free (commercial
experience on this field).

If not, make a repair install of 2k as a start (press F4 or F5 during CD-boot and follow directions). NO? Boot from HDD F8 command prompt [fix boot] - NO? F8 command
prompt [fix mbr]

For a full list of commands type [help /?]

Still no-go, pop a mail. Easier roads ahead.

Hey looking into this myself (for my laptop actually); which model was this
exactly? Is this the G2 version or the G1, and if it's the G2, where did
you get it for that price since it's $550 on Newegg currently...??

Reading the anandtech article, it seems like the Intel G2 is the way to go,
even with the price premium, though the OCZ Vertex is a close second if you
don't mind the smaller size and want to save some cash...
