[H] write protected thumb drive ?

2010-08-22 Thread FORC5
Have a flash drive my son got at ASU, has the school manual on it. Copied that
off. Can not use the drive because it is write protected.
There is no switch on the unit
Diskpart does not see it. have nothing with fdisk on it anymore (do not think
anyway)
drive management will not let me delete the partition.
Partition magic (8) does not see it.

pretty sure done with sw, anybody have a clue.

This will move me up a step on the daddo ladder :-D , son is a Computer
Engineer student ( freshman)

thanks
still looking

[H] Blackberry and Wifi

2010-08-22 Thread Winterlight
Chris, you use a Blackberry don't you? I have an employee with a new
Blackberry Bold that can't access my WAP. I am guessing it is a
security issue. I am using WPA PSK2 personal. The Blackberry appears
to have some kind of PSK support but it isn't clear on which one it is. Thanks

Re: [H] remote softare

2010-08-22 Thread Robert Martin Jr.
I use both remote desktop (built-in) and ul...@vnc
I like the file transfer capability of u...@vnc and the ability to copy and
paste text back and forth between local and remote boxes. Remote desktop is
handy also, because even the home version can be hacked to support multiple
user
logins and I use this for remote web browsing for employees, that runs them
through my home firewall with a ClearOS setup (AV scanning, keyword filtering
and black/white lists, etc). No chance of malware to work machines this way,
and
limited user rights for them)

There is lots of different remote software available, and a lot of it is free.
Is there a stand out program for controlling your desktop from afar using
Windows 7 machines?

I have been using Teamviewer recently

Works on my Mac's, PC's, etc, and does not need to be installed, will run from
memory if you wish..

www.teamviewer.com

Free for personal use..

I gave my mom and friends a desktop link to Teamviewer QS (quick start) on
their desktop, and can remote in to them whenever they need assistance..

Cheers.

and easy setup when I need to help someone remote
