Re: [H] How to change a nic card?
Bryan, You get the gold star! OB managed to copy the 'Win32' folder from the CD to a flash drive. Installed the flash drive in the VE machine, and, the new Intel nic is now running hot, straight, and, opnorml He now has a fully complete GBit home LAN. I am pleased also. Project DONE! Plus my OB now knows that his old Plextor CD rom is terminally dead! He knows how to fix this himself. For him it is not technical; it is just a matter of transportation and $$$. ...:) Thank you all! Bryan, Great Pernt!! May have to try that eventually. Yes, XPSP3 has USB, but not bootableI believe. The new nic card was not recognized when he powered his VE machine back on! OOPS! The OS never acknowledged the new nic card and tried to install a driver. Bummer. OK, perhaps the card I sent is actually dead. Hmm? I suggested that he carefully reinstall the new card. A mechanical recheck! Major grumbles. It appears that the nic card lives at the very bottom (last PCI slot) of the m/b. And, OB hasto remove another card to gain accessto the tiny nic card. Much more frustration, grumbles, and terse words! He will try again today. His frustration is compounded by the blizzard of cables and chosen install position associated with his VE machine. What is the List's general nic replacement process??? Perhaps I failed to tell him some critical prep-step to ease the process. His VE machine still uses WinXP sp3. Yes, he knows it is time to upgrade! I assumed that even WinXP has an Intel nic card driver in its' cache. I do recall the Win2000 sure did! Does changing a nic card automatically change CP/Network Connections/Local Area Connection/ to CP/Network Connections/Local Area Connection 2/ ? I was trying hard to avoid this :) I am ready for any questions youmay have. Thanks, Duncan

[H] How to change a nic card?
I know I've changed many nic cards and I've never had trouble. Well, yesterday my older Brother tried to change the nic card in his VE machine, and, had major trouble.
