Here's a processor comparison list titled "The Mother of All CPU Charts
2005/2006" from Tom's Hardware.
http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20051121/index.html

I took a quick look and did not find a spreadsheet style comparison
chart. I admit I did not invent a lot of time looking.

The nice part about computer spreadsheets is you are still limited on
width (although you can scroll or set your resolution very high) there
can be plenty of length in the document to host every mainline CPU
manufactured within the last 5 years.

I would like to see them listed in order of overall performance, not raw
GHz processor speed. Again, the spreadsheet I want may be there and I
have overlooked it.

Thanks for the link. It is very helpful, overall.

Chuck

I did not find it either.

2005-11-21 Thread Chris Reeves
Yeah, I'm not so fond of how this article is written in general. And there
is something wrong with the test results..

I'm not saying all the charts are cooked, I'm just saying, some of them have
results in it I really question.. Like:

http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20051121/the_mother_of_all_cpu_charts-28.htm
l

Yes, the results at the very top match what I've seen, but as you go down
the chart, some of the results don't add up to any experience I've ever seen
(a Sempron 2600+ faster then a P4 820D?) I'm not saying impossible, I'm
just saying.. Having used both products, I just can't see how you'd get
those results...

Oh whoops.. Never mind, found this:

http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20051121/the_mother_of_all_cpu_charts-21.htm
l

Using an Asus A8N-SLI Bios 1008-01 Beta. (1013 is current) so I'm assuming
this is an older matching.. 1012 has been out for months. Both Intel and
AMD Dual Core results (D) and (X2) processor results will be significantly
on the low side because it will be using the older Nvidia Video drivers,
which were not optimized for dual core until the 8x.xx series.

I'd disagree with his assumption that a Floppy drive is that "last" vistage
of the old days. PS/2 connector has been around a long time; and the serial
ports have been around since I had an 8088.

Wow, this is suitable for framing Hayes.

It only took Hayes about 6 years to go to the dark side.

what I mean here is that now days when you talk about a 7800TX or a 800XT
I don't know what is what anymore.

Same with processors now that they all have seemingly meaningless marketing
numbers rather then speed.

Is there a updated real time chart somewhere that displays them side by side

I think there may be some out there, but I'm about to have a lot of time
on my hands anyway..
