[ha-Safran]: Haftarot

2006-09-23 Thread hasafran

Subject: haftarot

Sept. 20, 2006

Dear Safranim,

Once again I am requesting your help. I have
been asked to find a Sefer Haftarot (without
mefarshim) suitable for reading at services –
which means it needs to have a large and clear
font, preferably with cantallation marks (trop)
but not Koren which apparently has a square font
in which the daled can be confused with the resh.
I have exhausted my usual sources and though I
was able to find something called Sefer Nevi’im
Shalem which fits all the criteria above, it is
not arranged according to the haftarot but as a complete navi.

If anyone knows of something like this AND where
I might be able to purchase it, I would really appreciate your help.

Thank you in advance,

Shana Tova

[ha-Safran]: Publishing Yiddish Online

2006-09-23 Thread Nikol Mladkova
To all Yiddish-speakers:

There has been a new website launched called http://publish-yiddish.com.
It is entirely free and always will be (-: and it is dedicated to
Yiddish-speakers to publish their art (poetry, prose...) online and get
comments on it. You can also have your own blog on the website
(preferable regarding Yiddish but not necessarily). Registration does NOT
imply agreement with receiving spam mail.

Bye to all Yiddish-speakers and fans,

Nikol

[ha-Safran]: Cataloging

2006-09-23 Thread Joan Tedlow
Hi,

We use the Elazar classification system. For non-fiction books, we
use the prefix YA (Young Adult,) J (Juvenile) or B (Biography) before
the call number. The books are then shelved in an integrated fashion,
resulting in the very real possibility that YA J books having the
same call #'s end up on the same shelf. For example, YA200 could be
next to J200.We do put YA stickers on the spines of appropriate books.

Our children's library is small, with about 1000 non-fiction books,
so it seem impractical to separate YA and J out further. Bu, there is
some confusion on the part of patrons. Any ideas on how to make it
more patron-friendly?

Thanks!!

Joan Tedlow

[ha-Safran]: Re: Yiddish Publishers

2006-09-23 Thread Congress for Jewish Culture
I shall write to her at that address, but my recommendation would be
CYCO Yiddish Books. Hy Wolfe is the director and can be reached at 25
East 21st Street, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10010. 212-505-8305. CYCO
has been publishing Yiddish belles-lettres since 1937.

Re: [ha-Safran]: Jewish Book Month

2006-09-23 Thread Kathe Pinchuck
Coincidently, the 87th annual Children's Book Week, sponsored by the
Children's Book Council (CBC) will be held November 13-19. Their
website http://www.cbcbooks.org/cb.cbcbooks.org/cbw has some
great ideas for programming and publicity, although none of it is
specifically for Jewish books.

RE: [ha-Safran]: Jewish Book Month

2006-09-23 Thread Joyce Levine
I would like to suggest that we add a link to the AJL website for
Jewish Book Month. Perhaps JBC will give AJL Council the information
each year in advance so we can post, it or provide a link to their site.
Shana Tova to all!
Joyce
