Re: [ha-Safran]: Library advocacy

2010-03-02 Thread Kimberley A. Shaw
Great videos at this link!
But could they be captioned? Libraries are particularly important for
deaf schools, and some librarians (and others) are themselves deaf /
hard-of-hearing as well ...
Best,

[ha-Safran]: New Archives Database at Yeshiva University

2010-03-02 Thread Deena Schwimmer
Discovering Yeshiva University Archives' extensive holdings of
primary source materials just became much easier with the release of
a new online database of finding aids to its archival collections.

The database includes full text searching across all finding aids,
displays search hits in context, and enables results to be navigated
with ease. Additionally, patrons can browse all finding aids by
Title, Creator and one or more Subject terms, the latter of which
should greatly facilitate identifying all collections relating to
particular areas of study.

This initial launch includes EAD finding aids for over 270 of the
Archives' collections, relating to modern Jewish history and culture
in the United States and abroad. Finding aids for a number of the
larger collections include folder-level inventories. Additional
inventories, new finding aids, as well as enhanced searching features
will be added as the project proceeds. The finding aids database
uses the eXtensible Text Framework (XTF) open-source architecture,
developed by the California Digital Library and customized by Library
staff members.

The database may be accessed at
http://libfindaids.yu.edu:8082/xtf/search. We invite your questions
and feedback.

[ha-Safran]: Sydney Taylor Book Award Committee's Reviews

2010-03-02 Thread Kathe Pinchuck
Dear Colleagues:

The Sydney Taylor Book Award Committee produces a compilation of its reviews
each year and makes it available on CD. We are currently evaluating new ways
of disseminating this information, and would appreciate your input:

If you acquired a Quest for the Best Sydney Taylor Book Award CD-ROM at a
convention or by ordering it from AJL, did you ever put the CD into your
computer and take a look at the documents stored on it?

If so, how was reading the reviews helpful? Did it assist you with
collection development? With preparing for booktalks or other programming?
In some other way?

Is the format of the review compilation useful to you (ie. being on CD-ROM,
being arranged alphabetically by title, etc.)?

What elements of the compilation are useful to you?
__ introductory material (history of Sydney Taylor and the award, criteria
for recognition, lists of past winners)
__ scores given by committee members to each title
__ positive reviews
__ negative reviews

I am anxious to receive your feedback at ch...@sydneytaylorbookaward.org.
Thank you for your input.
