[ha-Safran]: Donation of Jewish Books

2011-08-15 Thread Ian Morgan
Hello,

My congregation in Washington D.C. has come across an anonymous
donation of some Jewish books that we would like to find homes for in
libraries where they will be read and appreciated. We were hoping to
find some universities with Jewish study programs. We have 10 copies
of Judaism in a Secular Age and 20 copies of A life of Courage. It
would be great if you could contact some members on your list serve
to see if anyone is interested.

Thank you very much for your help,
Ian Morgan

[ha-Safran]: Nisim veniflaot

2011-08-15 Thread Amalia Warshenbrot
Shalom.
I am looking for the book Nisim v'niflaot (Miracles and wonders) by
Leah Goldberg in easy Hebrew.
The book was published in 1977 by the World Zionist organization/
Dep. for Education in the Diaspora. as a part of the Gesher lanoar series.
I will know the number of copies needed in mid September.
I know that the book in regular Hebrew is available in Israel and was
made into a TV show. The YouTube is on line.
Any information includes the price will be appreciated.

Re: [ha-Safran]: OPALS Library Catalog

2011-08-15 Thread Levine, Joyce
Hi Anna,
I have also been concerned with the inability to set up cross
references in OPALS. I know they are always working on enhancements
to the system.
I'm cc'ing Harry Chan (founder and CEO of OPALS) to remind him of the
importance of this issue.
Best,
Joyce

[ha-Safran]: Book announcement The Blood Lie

2011-08-15 Thread Ann Abrams
I offered to forward this to hasafran. This is not a review, on my
part, as I have not read it, yet. But, it looked of interest to AJL folks.

Ann Abrams, Librarian
Temple Israel, Boston
Dear Ann,

I'm writing to follow up on our correspondence from February about
my new young-adult book, The Blood Lie (Cinco Puntos Press). This
novel is based on a real blood libel that happened in Upstate New
York in 1928. A small girl disappeared just before Yom Kippur, and
the local Jews were accused of murdering her and baking her blood
in their holiday foods. The blood libel happened in my hometown
when my father was growing up there, so I was able to draw from
first-hand accounts.

I wanted to let you know that The Blood Lie is now available for
order. I hope you'll consider making it an addition to the Temple
Israel library.

The study guide for The Blood Lie can be found online at
bloodlibel.org. The book itself is available through Amazon,
IndieBound and other major sites. Thanks so much, and please feel
free to contact me with any questions. Hope you're having a great summer.

Best,

Shirley Vernick
