[ha-Safran] Grace After Meals

2016-11-10 Thread Bernstein, Steven (Library)
I am cataloging a birkon which contains commentaries on Birkat ha-Mazon, on Al
ha-Mihyah, and on Bore Nefashot.

I have found LCNAF headings for Birkat ha-Mazon (Grace after meals) and Bore
Nefashot (Bore Nefashot), but I can't find a heading for Al ha-Mihyah. Does
one exist?

Thanks,

Steven

Subject: [ha-Safran] Call for Papers for the World Congress of Jewish Studies
in 2017

Dear Safranim,

The deadline for proposals to the World Congress of Jewish Studies conference
in 2017 is in early December. We would to continue our tradition of having an
AJL panel session at this important conference.

I am attaching the WCJS posters in English and Hebrew so that you can see the
broad subject divisions. I would welcome ideas for a panel, and ideas for
individual papers.

If you would like to participate, please write to me as soon as possible before
November 30.

Many thanks,
Rebecca Jefferson

[ha-Safran] Justice and Emotions between Conflict and Mediation, A Cross-Disciplinary Anthology

2016-11-10 Thread Celestina Levant
Hello,
We would like to introduce a new publication by The Hebrew University Magnes
Press in collaboration with Martin Buber Society of Fellows:
Revenge, Retribution, Reconciliation
Justice and Emotions between Conflict and Mediation
A Cross-Disciplinary Anthology
Edited by: Kim
Wünschmann,
 Laura
Jockusch,
 Andreas
Kraft

"Revenge rarely figures as a felt emotion, or as a remembered desire, and even
more rarely as a guide to actions performed. A joke in circulation among Czech
Jewish survivors shows that survivors themselves explicitly recognized this
absence: Hitler, trying to hide his postwar identity, enters a cafe in Prague
and sees a survivor reading the daily newspaper. 'Could I borrow your paper?'
whispers Hitler politely. The Jew, recognizing Hitler, answers in fury: 'No,
Herr Führer, you will never get a newspaper from me after what you have done to
my people during the war.' "

The Martin Buber Society of Fellows explore how individuals, groups, and
societies in a variety of cultural contexts, political settings, and time
periods respond to the perpetration of injustices. Approaching the concepts of
revenge, retribution, and reconciliation from interdisciplinary and
cross-cultural perspectives, it opens a fruitful discussion among scholars of
history, literature, psychology, biology, political science, communications,
sociology, religious studies, law, and philosophy. The book investigates how
social groups reach and maintain an equilibrium between an emotional thirst for
an immediate and unmediated response to injustices and societies’ need to
adjudicate measures and sanctions that seem proportional to the breech of
justice.
This volume is the third in the Martin Buber Society of Fellows Notebook Series.
