Re: [ha-Safran] Books on the Israel-Palestinian conflict

2018-12-04 Thread Janice Lieberman via Hasafran
The Secret Grove, by Barbara Cohen, was published in 1985, so some might object
to it for not being current. However, I found it to be a thoughtful, respectful
account of the friendship that develops between an Israeli boy and an Arab boy.
This short book (32 pages) is included in this list of upper elementary books
recommended for Jewish libraries (Building a Jewish Library: Children's Books:
Upper Elementary) with the following description:
"Cohen, Barbara.  The Secret Grove. Union of American Hebrew Congregations
Press. 1985. AISN/ISBN: 0807403016.For grades 4 to 6. The tale of two boys, one
Israeli, the other Arab, who meet by chance one day in an orange grove that
separates their villages and learn as much about themselves as they do about
each other."

[ha-Safran] Elliot's retirement

2018-12-04 Thread Edith Lubetski via Hasafran
Dear Elliot,
I would like to add my voice to the chorus of well-wishers. It was always a
pleasure to work with you, and meet with you at AJL events. You were the prime
mover in our connection to ALA, and without you, I don't know if we would have
had a connection at all. AJL certainly benefitted from you knowledge,
expertise, and your hard work. I was delighted to hear that you will still
remain active in AJL and ALA.
Enjoy your retirement.
Kol tuv,
Edith
