[ha-Safran] AJL Student Scholarship and Subvention - deadline extended to 4/18/24

2024-04-11 Thread Tina Weiss via Hasafran
The Association of Jewish Libraries is pleased to offer a combined academic
scholarship with conference subvention. The award includes an academic
scholarship of $3000 to a student enrolled in or accepted into a graduate
school of library and information science, in combination with a conference
subvention award (not to exceed $2000) to cover registration, travel expenses,
and hotel (double occupancy) associated with attending the Association of
Jewish Libraries annual conference in person in San Diego in June 2024.
Conference attendance is required as a condition of accepting the scholarship.

Prospective candidates should have knowledge of and interest in Jewish studies,
and demonstrate the potential, ability, and intention of pursuing a career in
Judaica librarianship.

This scholarship is merit-based rather than needs-based. AJL welcomes and
highly encourages award recipients’ involvement in the organization through
volunteer and mentorship opportunities. By attending the conference, the
awardee will benefit from special programming geared toward first-time
attendees and networking with librarians at all career stages and
specializations.

[ha-Safran] The Kar-Ben Publishing AJL Conference Scholarship

2024-04-11 Thread Rebecca Levitan via Hasafran
I am delighted to announce that Esther Schnaidman is the 2024 Kar Ben
Publishing AJL Conference Scholarship recipient. The Kar-Ben Scholarship,
funded by Kar-Ben Publishing in honor of founders Judye Groner and Madeline
Wikler, awards a scholarship for AJL conference attendance to an AJL member
who demonstrates dedication to Jewish children’s literature and library
services.

Esther has spent over 20 years as the School Media Specialist and Librarian
at the Rosenbaum Yeshiva of North Jersey. In this position she has
increased the library collection, created a library curriculum, and brought
programs to the school. Additionally she has earned her school library
Advanced Accreditation from AJL. In the words of committee member Aviva
Rosenberg "She's doing things other schools and librarians aren't, she's
definitely going above and beyond". In addition to her work at her school,
Esther has helped facilitate roundtables for AJL, presented at conferences,
and is a consistent and thoughtful reviewer for *AJL News and Reviews*.
Mazel tov Esther!

I'd like to thank the Kar Ben Publishing AJL Conference Scholarship
committee members for their help in selecting such a deserving AJL member
for this generous award: Heidi Rabinowitz, Aviva Rosenberg, Ellen
Drucker-Albert, and Judy Ehrenstein.
